"Good Morning magical students," Teacher Rachel said. She was wearing a white shirt and long blue pants with black heels. She applied red lipstick and light makeup to her face, she had innocent features but she was strict and harsh.
"Good morning Teacher Rachel!" We responded in unison.
"Good." She said, impressed by our response. She stood at the teacher's podium in the front of the class. Some students in the class were chattering as if she wasn't there, but Teacher Rachel never ceased to remind them of her presence.
"Silence!" She said and hit the podium, she had strength just like Leo, but she was stronger since she was older and more experienced. The loud bang reverberated around the class and I was sure it would reach other classes.
The class turned as quiet as a graveyard, the teachers hardly showed their powers but Teacher Rachel was someone who didn't give a fuck.
"Now, I assigned to you all, a task." Teacher Rachel said.
"Yes, Teacher Rachel!" We answered in unison, for some reason, teachers in this school liked it when students answered them this way.
"Good." Teacher Rachel said.
"Now I want you to come in front of the class and explain." She said again.
I raised my hands and she motioned for me to stand up, which I did.
"You have something to say?" She asked and I nodded.
"I...as someone who hasn't figured out their powers, yet. I don't know how it feels like to lose control or regain control..."
"...and so you decided to not do the assignment, right?" She asked and I nodded.
"You not having powers has nothing to do with me. I have an assignment and I expect you to do it whether you have powers or not." She said.
"I'm sorry Teacher Rachel, but I wasn't sure of what to compose," I lied.
"That's a form of disobedience, I gave you all a task, it is your responsibility to do it and even if you fail, at least you obeyed and did it." Teacher Rachel said and I carried my gaze to the ground, fiddling with my fingers again.
I heard a ripping sound next to me and when I looked, it was Alex, ripping his assignment, he threw the chunks in the air and then stood up too.
"I also didn't do the assignment, Teacher Rachel," Alex said. I couldn't avert my gaze from him, and I was the one who decided to ignore him. He did his assignment, so why would he rip them up just like that, and in front of Teacher Rachel?
"What?!" Teacher Rachel asked it was like she couldn't believe her ears. Alex was someone who always did what he was told and right now, he was even smiling as he said that.
Teacher Rachel was silent for a while and I knew she was thinking about what she was going to do with us.
"Detention for both of you, After class." She said and we sat down, while she proceeded to talk to the other students who did theirs. I stole glances at Alex, I kept wondering why he did that, he did his assignment and he also ripped them up.
Everyone who did their assignment explained and most of them got an F, Teacher Rachel was a strict soul and if your words don't make sense, she yells with an F.
There were only a few of them who passed, including Ed, I didn't expect I would pass the assignment, but Teacher Rachel even liked the explanation that Ed came first in the assignment.
After she dismissed the class, I walked sluggishly with my head down to the detention room, Alex walked behind me and I could feel his gaze on me, he should have walked and passed by me, why was he walking behind me?
Anyway, this was my first time since I attended Hidden High, to be sent to the detention room, and I couldn't help but sulk.
The detention room was empty, there were no chairs nor desks, it was a room that when you enter, automatically closes and everything becomes plain white, like an abyss.
"Argh, I can't believe I'm here," I said when I entered the class, stomping my foot and tugging at my hair. I turned to look at Alex and I saw him staring at me with wide eyes and a pout. He was just so beautiful, how could a guy be this beautiful?
I knew I was a mess right now. I arranged my hair using my fingers and then I sat down on the floor with a sigh.
Alex walked up to me and sat down beside me, he sat next to me with one leg stretched out and the other bent, and his left hand on his left knee.
"Why are you avoiding me?" He suddenly asked.
"Avoiding you, who was avoiding you?" I asked, looking everywhere in the room but him.
"Hmm, maybe I misunderstood," Alex said with a chuckle.
"Why do you say that?"
"Because no one can avoid this," Alex said using a finger to circle his face with a smirk on his lips.
(Scoff) "You're so full of yourself," I said with a smile.
"Don't you think it's great?" Alex asked again.
"What is?"
"Me, you, alone in the detention room?" He said.
My heart raced in its rib cage, suddenly remembering the sweet nightmare I had. I jumped from where I was sitting as if I was sitting beside a plague.
"What's wrong?" Alex asked.
"I...I think we should maintain some distance," I said. He stood up and walked towards me, coming so close that I had to step back a little.
"Y...you are a guy after all, and I am a girl." I managed to say and I heard Alex's laughter echo in the blank room.
"You're so funny," Alex said amid his laughter. It was so genuine that I wondered what was funny in the words I just uttered. Does he not see me like a girl then?
When his laughter died down." Do you want to play a game?" He asked with a smile, I was confused but I nodded, at least to kill time in this hell hole.
"You are the only one I can't hear in this whole school, except for those who have reached a high level of telepathy and can protect their minds," Alex said.
"But you're the best telepath in the school," I said.
"It's cute that you think so." He said, going back to where he sat previously while I still stood there.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"There are some telepaths in this school that are above me, one though, the rest are on par," Alex said.
"Who?" I asked.
"You," He said with a serious gaze and my heart skipped a beat.
Was it true, was I a telepath? Was that the reason he couldn't hear my mind?
