Chapter 24 - 24_ Yeah, what a coincidence!

********************

I woke up the next day with an unbearable migraine. I sat on my queen-sized bed, clutching a handful of my hair as I groaned in pain.

There was a knock on the door and Dad came in with a tray, he placed the bowl of hangover soup next to me and I just watched him, unable to say anything, even to greet him.

"Dad," I managed to say, afraid he might be disappointed in me for coming home drunk last night. How did I get home last night?

"Are you okay my Angel, you look like a mess?" Dad said to me with concern, he placed his hand on my forehead, feeling my temperature.

"Here drink this, it'll help with the hangover," Dad said, giving me the bowl of soup which I collected from him and drank to my heart's content.

"Thanks, Dad," I said, laying back in bed.

"Aren't you going to school today?" He asked and I groaned. I felt so sick, but I didn't want to ruin my perfect attendance. I stood up from bed and sluggishly walked to the bathroom while Dad went out to get prepared for work.

When I was done I put on my uniform and went downstairs, breakfast was served in the dining room but I was running late so I decided to eat on campus.

"You're not having breakfast?" Father asked.

"Don't worry about me, I'll get something to eat on the way," I said, my head hurt so much, I couldn't shout so I didn't know if they heard me or not. I took my scooter and drove off. I arrived about forty-five minutes later and I hurriedly went to the Cafeteria to have something to eat before the bell rang for the first period.

"There she is, go do your thing," Charlotte whispered in Liam's ears and Liam walked towards her, dragging his feet. Liam knew that winning Ranella's heart required a bit of charm and creativity. Although she already had a crush on him.

"Smells delicious, is that scrambled eggs?" He asked, taking a seat next to her. Ranella choked on her food when she saw him and she began to cough, he took some water from the glass and handed it over to her while patting her back.

"Th...thank you," She stuttered.

"You're welcome," He said flashing a smile although it didn't look genuine.

"You were so drunk yesterday," Liam said and her eyes widened like saucers.

"Were you the one who took me home?" She asked.

"No, but I was the one who stopped you from drinking more, I think Bea, took you home," He replied.

"Ahh, thanks again," She said and returned to her food.

"So...is that scrambled eggs?" He asked again.

"You're seeing it," Ranella replied, causing Liam to blink twice. Her cheeks always turned red whenever he stared at her but right now he was even speaking to her and there was no sign of her blushing.

It looked like she had taken a liking to Alex and whatever feelings she had for him had died down. So right now he had to try and win her adoration back all over again, girls were just too tender, if someone shows them attention, they get swayed easily.

"Can I have a bite?" He asked, she nodded, adjusting her plate to him and then he pushed it back to her.

"I've been feeling some pains in my hand recently,"

"Are you insinuating I feed you?" She asked and Liam nodded without delay.

"I...I can't do that," Ranel said, tucking her hair behind her ear.

"Why?"

"I don't think we're close enough to do that," Ranella said, noticing the stares and murmurs from the other students in the cafeteria.

"But you're close enough to go with Alex to a party?" Liam asked but this question came from his heart, he didn't know why but he just blurted out.

"Ranella?" Alex called, walking towards them.

"Good morning Ranella, brother?" Alex greeted, sitting in front of them.

"What are you doing here brother?" Alex asked.

"Just having a chat with her," Liam said, but his attention was still on Ranella and not on his brother.

"About?"

"There's nothing to worry about, I'm not gonna kill her," Liam said, finally carrying his gaze to his brother, they broke out in an intense glaring contest which made Ranella wonder what went on between these two brothers.

But they were twins, there's always some bitterness between twins.

Liam stood up and walked out of the hall, sometimes they looked close and inseparable, but then they looked like enemies, what was wrong with these people?

"What was he saying to you?" Alex asked.

"Nothing," She replied, shaking her head.

"You sure?" He asked again and she nodded.

The bell rang for class, we headed to Teacher Parker's class, he was the weirdest teacher in Hidden High but still, his teachings made sense. His subject was Mutant physiology and anatomy, which specializes in the unique aspects of mutant biology, exploring their enhanced abilities, genetic mutations, and how these factors contribute to their unique physiology.

"Good morning magical students," He greeted.

"Good morning Parker," He always insists the students call him by his name and not include the word 'Teacher.'

"Today we will be conversing about mutant physiology," He said, writing it down on the board with very clumsy penmanship.

"One key aspect of mutant physiology is the presence of an X-gene, which is responsible for the development of mutant abilities. This gene can manifest in a variety of ways, leading to a wide range of powers such as superhuman strength, speed, telepathy, telekinesis, shape-shifting, or energy manipulation, among others," He said, walking around the class, other students were blabbing and chattering, they disrespected the man cause he had a funny look and he wasn't an authoritarian instructor.

"In terms of anatomy, mutants generally have the same basic structures as humans. They possess vital organs like the heart, lungs, brain, and digestive system, which function similarly to those of non-mutants. However, some mutants may have certain modifications or enhancements to these organs to accommodate their powers. For example, a mutant with superhuman strength may have stronger muscles or denser bones to support their abilities," He said pointing at Leo who stood up, showcasing his muscles, with other students hyping him.

"Now, mutants may have unique physical attributes that set them apart from regular humans. These can include unusual skin pigmentation, eye color variations, or even physical mutations like wings, tails, or additional appendages. These features are often directly related to their powers and can aid in their ability to control and utilize their abilities effectively," Parker said, and a girl who could fly spread out her wings like that of a dragonfly and floated to the ceiling with a buzzing sound. And another guy with hairy wolf ears and a snake-like tail jumped on the table and howled, they wanted to showcase their physical mutations.

"Each mutant's powers and physical characteristics are determined by their specific genetic mutation, making each individual unique. This diversity in mutant biology is what makes the mutant population so fascinating and diverse," He said.

"it is important to approach the topic of mutant physiology and anatomy with sensitivity and inclusivity," He said with a stern warning. He encourages students to explore different perspectives and understand that mutants, like all individuals, should be treated with respect and acceptance.

When the class ended, Ranella walked to her locker, to keep her pen and textbooks and when she shut the locker, she jolted like someone who had been shocked by electricity. But thankfully, it wasn't Charlotte, it was Liam lying on the locker next to her, looking at her with a smoldering gaze.

"Ah, you scared me," She whispered to herself rather than to him.

"Fancy running into you here," He said with a straight face, when guys say something like that, they either give a flirty grin or at least smile, but his face was as emotionless and expressionless as ever.

"This--this is my locker," Ranella said with a blink, causing Liam to lay with his back on the locker, pinching the skin between his brows.

Ranella looked up, her gaze meeting Liam's hopeless face, she flashed a shy smile. "Yeah, what a coincidence," she replied, her voice laced with curiosity as she decided to play along, causing Liam to look up, his gaze meeting hers.
