Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Honor Bound

Iskandar stands in front of me he looks annoyed, "I should never of graciously offered to let you in here you have ruined my perfect case little mutt." I ignore him for now I call for attention, "The other point I take issue with is the vision my chronoscopy gathered from the body." Iskandar muttered, "That chronoscopy again stupid third rate ability is proving annoying." I again ignore him and continue, "I saw Fez around standing waiting for the client. The client who I believe is almost assuredly our killer since Fez was killed shortly after this vision. Fez in my vision had what I assume to be the flash drive in a clear plastic bag,  he was clearly distraught, and I also know that the client was running late. Interestingly the victim also knew he was in danger, but this contradicts the evidence that the victim was stabbed unexpectedly in the throat."

I clear my throat, "From this I have concluded two things one Fez was probably attacked by two people one was the client, and the other who came from the front was a distraction someone the victim knew was an immediate danger. Yes the pieces are starting to fall into place the 2nd thing we know from this is that the client was late. The question is why? I think we need only ask one person in front of us." I look at Rena expectantly. Rena shakes her head, "Save it I'm not telling you sludge brained detectives anything." I shake my head, "You said you would never give up information on a client, but what about an accomplice." I smile knowingly I say to Korn, "Permission to interrogate officer?" Korn nods, "Permission granted Sir. Gingerbread you may question her."

It is clear from my first case that the role of the officer really is that of a judge, but it would seem Korn is at least sensible when it comes to procedure. I say to Rena smiling, "Follow me we need to talk privately." Rena scoffs, "Why should I do that pipsqeak." Korn interrupts, "Because if you don't we might have to arrest everyone here including your boys." Rena frowns annoyed she begrudgingly follows me to the room next door where we could be alone. The room was like that of a closet small overhead lights lit up the small dim room. I sigh, "Hah that's better now we can talk without all the stiff people getting in the way." Rena explains, "Look lets get this over with I am not your friend, nor do I want to be just get to the questions."

I laugh, "Your a serious person aren't you? Alright lets start. I will be direct here you can punch me if you want I don't care. Someone in your gang is a traitor aren't they?" Rena blushes first and then gets angry, "What the- bastard what are you implying answer carefully, or you might find your teeth on the floor." I shrug, "Threaten me all you want, but in my vision I saw Fez feeling a sense of dread as someone approached. It wasn't the client he was going to make a deal with the client, so he wouldn't fear them. This feeling was different it was fearful, almost familiar. Fez knew the person who was approaching him from the front. Ergo it is not crazy to assume it was someone from his gang." Renas jaw was clenched I can tell from her face that I was right on the mark. Rena conceded, "I suppose if you deduced that much I can at least confirm some things. Fez was one of my most trusted members of the gang we practically made the rising eagles together. Fez and I have suspected that one of our new members had been a traitor for awhile now."

She thinks for a moment then continues, "Look even though we knew who it was outing him was another matter it would hurt our reputation to confront him about it if we didn't have proper evidence. The traitor was selling information on our gang to 3rd parties for money, and I assume he was involved in Fez's death because Fez had figured out his client, thus having evidence of the traitors wrongdoings." Rena sighs, "Look I won't tell you who the client was, but I sent Fez there to make one last deal with the client on behalf of the traitor. What was supposed to happen was Fez was supposed to give the client the flash drive which contained information on other gangs drug dealings I wont tell you why, but know that it would benefit him to get this information, and in exchange he would confirm for us the traitors wrongdoings. I think our client either got scared that Fez would instead expose him, or got greedy trying to take more than what we agreed on. Either way they made contact with the traitor, and plotted against Fez in the alleyway."

I nod taking the information in I more or less get the full picture now, I just need the who, and in order to get that I need a few more pieces of information. I smile, "Wow thanks that really helped I don't suppose you'd be willing to tell me the traitors name." Rena rolled her eyes, "I should punch you for that, but lets not waste time lets return to the lobby." We both made our way back to the lobby where the police, the gang, and Iskandar were bickering. Iskandar was annoyed, "Why should that worm get any authority here daddy said I would get the first crack at this case." Korn seemed like a father trying to calm a crying child, "Now Now Sir. Snickerdoodle lets just see what Sir. Gingerbread has to say." Roe was in the corner of the room his expression unreadable he seemed slightly on edge, but that was to be expected we are in the den of a gang.

Everyone's eyes once again fall on me as I reenter the room. Roe says curiously, "What have you learned Gingerbread sir." I smile, "Right I have concluded three things in my discussion with Rena. The first is that the culprit had an accomplice someone in this very room in fact. The second is that the culprit was originally supposed to exchange information with the victim, but they went back on their original deal. Finally I have concluded that the accomplice is a traitor to the rising eagles, and that Rena is innocent of the crime." Surprise linger in the lobby as I explain hushed murmurs linger throughout the room. Rena silences them, "Yes what the boy says is true I will confirm at least that much the rising eagles had a traitor someone Fez and I were trying to get evidence on. The traitor was selling information to rival gangs for money on the side, and has seemingly made a deal with a 3rd party to keep Fez's mouth shut for good."

Korn is the first to speak up, "Sir. Gingerbread the traitor is in this very room? Do you know who it is?" I respond, "No I have no idea who in the rising eagles is the traitor right now, but fortunately I do have some decisive evidence to put the culprit behind bars." Korn and the others stir they seem anxious at the new revelations. Iskandar tries to assert himself, "This is all hogwash that brute Rena is the killer are we really gonna trust some brutish woman's testimony." Marcus one of the gang members who spoke earlier raises his voice, "Shut up mutt. Boy continue what kind of evidence do you have against the slime that killed Fez." Another member chimes in he had red hair, and gold eyes and a scowl on his face, "These two posh detectives don't know their ass from their elbows why should any of us listen to this." Rena raises a hand, "Lutz enough let us at least hear what he has to say." The man Lutz sinks back into his seat seemingly annoyed.

I clear my throat, "Right if there are no more interruptions I will tell you what I have learned, and concluded about the culprit. I will start from the beginning the culprit was told by the traitor that the rising eagles were going to squeal on them, or had some other manner of convincing them to kill Fez. The fear of being caught made them commit the murder since they both had a similar goal Fez needed to die in order to keep their deeds hidden." Korn adds on, "So given let me get this straight Fez knew of both of their deeds, and they assumed they would be exposed should he stay alive similar interests aligned resulting in Fez dying. Astute observation Sir." I nod, "Right with the shared interest in mind the traitor distracted Fez in the alleyway since Fez knew he was the traitor he was momentarily caught of guard."

I smile at Korn, "The interesting part comes before the murder. The culprit needed time to prepare some things. The culprit needed his laptop, his weapon of choice, and a change of clothes. I will explain why the culprit was also late to the crime scene, but before that let me explain what happened with the flash drive. The flash drive was taken from the body after the murder at around 8 am, and the contents originally held information on various gangs throughout the city, but it was replaced with false information related to the dealings of the rising eagles. This was a clever attempt to shift blame on Rena, and it worked very effectively." I give a glance to Iskandar whose face was a look of both annoyed, and embarrassed. I continue, "The culprit had about an hour to change clothes, sneak to and from the crime scene, and replace the contents of the flash drive." One of the gang members Marcus interrupted, "Get on with it already boy you waste our time who is the culprit?" I laugh, "Give me a moment I am getting to the good part half the fun is making the culprit panic right? After all they are in this very room more than likely trying to keep their teeth from chattering too loudly."
