I look up at the girl in front of me she's taller than me I am only 5′ 8″ she is at least a few inches taller I would wager she is at least 6′ 0″. I recognize that way of insulting someone, and that hair it is very reminiscent of something recognize from yesterday. I speak up, "Mutt? I am a detective just like you I think I meant a relative of yours yesterday. Are you from the Snickerdoodle family by chance?" She uncrosses her arms her frown further falling on her face as she retorts, "You know my brother?" She seems to think for a moment then continues, "Ah wait I think brother Iskandar was being scolded for losing a case yesterday. I remember him whining about some upstart brat solving the case before him. That must of been you." She signs, "Very well you may call me Azura, or queen Azura to you I suppose." I ignore her comment chuckling, "Right Nero Gingerbread at your service Azura." She frowns just like her brother she doesn't seem too happy I called her Azura like we were old friends, but the Snickerdoodle family was fun to mess with.
I add on, "I was wondering who was still investigating this scene I guess it was you?" She signs, "Yeah... and I am just about to solve this case too bad for you low born you'll be going home empty handed." I chuckle, "Oh wow I guess I really made a fool of myself then coming down here and all. Let me ask you this though why were you so determined to solve this case when everyone else jumped ship." She drops her noble act for a moment and speaks frankly, "To be honest this case means more to me than just a mere payment, or any prestige for that matter." She pauses seemingly debating her next sentence, "I suppose I can tell you since we won't be seeing much of each other after I solve this case. Reginald was a family friend to the Snickerdoodles. I saw him a lot growing up he was a good man, a very kind mind. I have nothing but fond memories of him since I was young. He would always event little toys for us kids honestly I was devastated when I heard what happened."
Seems she was willing to open up a bit not as jaded as she tries to come across I follow up with another question, "Oh fascinating so you knew the victim personally alright tell me this who killed him." She stares daggers at me, "Why so you can steal the credit again like you did to brother Iskandar I heard what happened be patient and follow me if you must I am going to the officer in charge of this case right now." I comment, "Oh amazing please let me listen in if you would," I say excited. She beckons, "Come along I wouldn't want you to miss my brilliant deductions I spent weeks working on. To do so would be a disservice to you even if you are just a dog." I follow behind her as her long blonde hair makes waves through the air the smell of a sweet honey following behind her.
The officer in charge of the case was seemingly bored he was in his police uniform at one of the tables in the foyer. He seemed to be reading a newspaper he had neatly combed black hair and glasses, and a nasty looking scar that went over his left eye. He looked up from his paper at us his badge flashed in the light it read, "Norwald" his eyes glowed a deep crimson a long with it. He put his paper down he spoke in a commanding tone, "How can I help you two Azura, and Nero was it?" His way of speaking was not at all formal seemed he didn't care about hierarchy, but I didn't mind. He had a striking build with decent sized muscles, but despite his manner of speaking he seemed like he was in his late 20s, or perhaps early 30s. I expected Azura to get mad at his manner of speaking, but it would appear that she was sued to dealing with him. She sighed, "Right Norwald I got more evidence for you today this time you'll have to consider this case closed."
Norwald barely even twitched he looked at his watch, "Right as usual do make it quick I do not like my time being wasted you know this." She puffed out her chest in pride, "Right today will be different I have concrete evidence to put that impish maid behind bars this time." My eyes perk up the maid? The named that greeted me at the door? I think her name was Silk oh this should be good. Azura began her speech, "I hereby indict Azura Waterson in the crime of killing Reginald Fairweather." Norwald lazily responds, "What new evidence have you for us today little miss?" Azura pulls out a book out of her satchel she lays it on the table. Norwarld's eyes hardly even move to the book he yawns it would appear that they have done this many times before. Azura frowns at his reaction but continues, "This is Reginald's journal one that I found in his room I have highlighted a particular sentence that may prove to beyond a doubt that the maid is the killer. Here see for yourself and be amazed."
She slides the book towards Norwald in return he picks it up a frown on his face he reads the lines out loud to us. Norwald reads the line from Reginald's journal, "I have begun to also suspect my maid since she lies to me constantly. Just yesterday she lied to me about going out to the store to pick up groceries. She sneaks off a lot in, and out of the mansion. I asked her what she wanted to buy, and all she could explain was that she was trying to buy vegetables for tonight's dinner. That was a lie we have plenty of vegetables in the house, heck we even have the garden out back for all of our needs. I am not sure why she came up with such a bad lie, but I also notice she likes to sneak off a lot even slacking on her duties a bit to do so. Occasionally I even hear her talking to herself in the bathroom in a hushed tone this maid has proven to be untrustworthy."
Azura adds on, "See I told you before this journal has all the information we need, Reginald knew he was being targeted, and he knew that the maid was out to get him." Norwald sighs as he slides back the journal, "I think I also remember telling you that this was all conjecture this evidence will never hold up in court. Furthermore this hardly counts as concrete proof." Azura attempts to retort, "B-but this is concrete proof that the maid was a suspect at the very least." Norwald looks at his watch again he shakes his head, "No once again you have failed to meet my standards if every criminal were caught by such conjecture surely the prisons would have no more room for any prisoners. Now please Miss Azura come back when you have proper evidence that back up your very serious claims on Miss silk.
Azura sulks as she flees her face red with embarrassment from Norwald's harsh words. She makes her way back to the study I follow behind silently. Once we get back to the study she lashes out, "That stupid policeman always writing off everything I say." She then looks at me with a frustration in her eyes, "Did you follow me back here just to laugh well go on then get it over with." I say frowning, "No that wasn't my intention, and for one thing I did fine your piece of evidence intriguing. Just like your brother you have an act for finding key pieces of evidence." I try to comfort her since I can imagine how hard it is to have your confidence crushed like that. I tack on, "Reginald knew he was being targeted that is helpful we have at least established he had reason to doubt that someone was targeting him." Azura still sulking responded, "Well at least you know good reasoning when you see it."
I take out my notebook, and a pen from my bag I think it is time that I try to understand the layout of this place. I have a hunch that the layout of the estate is going to be a major factor moving forward. Azura curiously eyes me, "What are you doing with that notebook?" I smile, "This notebook carries my detectives pride I figure since this is a locked room murder the layout of this place will be important, and once I have mapped out this place I figure I will have a good idea how the culprit entered the room, and left." Azura raised her eyebrows she had seemed to have given up, but what I said seemed to relight her fire. She spoke with care seemingly trying to keep her dignity in tact, "Do you think you'll solve this case?"
I look up at her looking directly into her purple eyes I respond with confidence, "Yes, or rather I have to solve this case, or my mom will force me to move back home more than likely." She seemed to be making a decision on something finally her face softens a bit, "So your life as a detective will end if you don't solve this case? Alright damn it I can't believe I am saying this, but would you... would you maybe like to work together?" Working together on a case means that all benefits of solving the case were shared, so it was rarely done, but Azura seemed desperate. Without hesitation I give her a wide smile, "Work together why I can think of no better prospect I would love to work with someone genius as the Snickerdoodle family," I say trying to sound friendly. Azura blushes and looks away, "Very well I will make the necessary arrangements dog-," She sighed thinking for a moment before saying, "Partner."
