Chapter 8 - Ch 8: Rachael is a normal girl [pt2]

Rachael looked at the people behind her with curious eyes. She could hear everything they were saying, and the adults did not know.

Currently, Rachael is waiting for Suzie to come to her. Suzie had asked her for help a day ago, and Rachael had agreed to that call. She had the material to help Suzie out in her bag.

Suzie hurried toward Rachael as soon as her mother was gone. Her hand closed around Rachael's arm, and she dragged her ally and turned her to face a side where no one was looking at her.

"Hey, did you get what I asked you to? I already paid you the bribe, so hurry up and give me what I want."

Suzie was a mean girl who often bullied Rachael. Or that was what the adults liked to say when they saw their interactions. Suzie was overbearing, and being from a relatively wealthy household with an only daughter, she was used to getting everything.

So, when someone did not pay her attention, it annoyed Suzie, and she wanted to protest. That was what had happened to their new teacher as well.

Now, Rachael knew that teaching was hard work, and they also needed appreciation.

But Suzie was too high on her power to understand these things. She had taken the teacher's inattentiveness as a part of the teacher's being against her.

And Suzue had asked for revenge.

Rachael knew that Suzie's revenge was rather childish, and Suzie would forget about it in about 2-3 days when she got the attention she wanted.

But she had given Rachael a toffee, and that treat had convinced Rachael to help her out. And no, it was not because Suzie had been the first person who had sought out Rachael.

"I have what you need. But I cannot hand it to you outright. There are too many eyes looking at us."

Rachael reminded Suzie, and Suzie had a blushing look on her face. Suzie looked around with a sharp eye before turning toward Rachael once more.

"I-I knew that. Don't you dare try to be smart with me? I am the princess of my family, and I know what I can do. If you annoy me too much, I will ask my daddy, and you will get in trouble."

Suzie threatened, but it did not affect Rachael. She was used to getting threatened by kids all the time. It caused her to develop immunity to threats.

"Hey, are you listening to me? I said that I would get you into trouble with Father. Hey, listen to me!"

Suzie threatened Rachael, but the other girl ignored her and sat in her seat. The teacher also came into the room, and whatever Suzie had to say got stuck in her throat.

As much as she complained about being ignored by teachers and whatnot, she also worried about making a wrong impression on them.

"Alright, everyone, you can sit down on our seat. Suzie, what are you doing? Are you worried about something?"

The teacher called out Suzie, and this was the first time Suzie did not want the teacher to be paying attention to her.

"I…huh…no. Uhm, it's nothing amiss. I-I was just talking with my friends."

Since Suzie was planning something, she did not feel confident to act as if nothing was wrong. Suzie would give her secret away at this rate before things could snap into action.

"Alright, if you say that, Suzie. Since today is a special day, I asked you all to pay attention. Today, we have a teacher assistant with us. Their school specially chooses them, and they are here to play with you."

"So, class, say hello to your new teacher aid…"

Rachael stopped paying attention to what was happening in front of her. She had already heard about the aid's arrival a few days ago, and her excitement was gone.

She carefully opened her bag and brought out the insect-free. She also lathered her finger with honey and smeared some of it underneath Suzie's desk.

Five minutes into the new teacher aid's introduction, a voice yelled in shock. The class watched Suzie cry out in fright as a relatively gigantic insect jumped on her desk.

"S-Save me. Someone, hurry up and save me. Please save me!"

Suzie yelled as tears fell from her eyes. Her mind seemed to have drawn a blank as she faced a fearsome thing in front of her.

The tiny insect in front of Suzie might initially seem harmless, but it was a venomous beast she had seen in pictures before. She would die if she touched it.

"Suzie, remain calm and do not move. The teacher will be there to help you out soon."

The new teacher yelled as he considered his options for saving Suzie. He even recognized the insect as poisonous and knew how dangerous it could be to get stung by it.

Her teacher's words went inside Suzie's ear and out of the other one. No one in the class moved to help her either.

'A-Am I going to die? Why? I did nothing wrong and…I do not want to die. I knew I should not have Rachael for help here. Is this all her fault somehow.'

Suzie's mind was a mess, and that caused her latent powers to burst out. The classroom was filled with a white glow before someone quickly clasped a hand on Suzy's before she could explode.

Rachael watched this happen with a satisfied look on her face. With this, her task was over.

Suzie had asked Rachael to exact revenge, but her true wish had been to become an extraordinary person her teacher would not be able to ignore.

Now that Suzie had found her powers, she was no longer someone people would be able to ignore.

'I did as much as I was asked to do. I don't have anything more to contribute.'

Rachael looked down at her notebook once Suzie calmed down. Suzie seemed to have forgotten all about Rachael's involvement, which was for the best.

This all would have been a thing of the past if only someone had slammed their hand on top of her desk.

A smiling face looked down at her, and the unfamiliar boy around 12 looked at her with interest. He waited for Rachael to say something to her, but Rachael just looked down.

Objectively speaking, this body was handsome and looked quite capable. All in all, he was the right person to look at.

But Rachael did not know why she got a weird feeling whenever she looked at the teen in front of her. Her instincts were telling her to stay away from this body.

"Hello, are you alright as well? Your desk was quite close to our friend's. I was wondering if you were alright or not?"

Concern was swelling between the teen's eyes, but somehow, that alerted Rachael. She felt her throat growl, and her eyes twitched.

It was…concerning for Rachael to be feeling this much. An unknown human should not make her feel anything.

'This man is not average and is not suitable for me. I must find a way to take this conversation from where it is headed.

Rachael had a feeling that this man knew what she did, and he was only humoring her to make her let her guard down.

"I am alright. I am not easily frightened by such things. You should go and look after Suzie. She is the one who was hurt and let out that weird glow."

Rachael tried to make this leave her alone. But the man refused to leave Rachael alone. Instead of going to look after Suzie, he sat beside Rachael and looked at her with concern-filled eyes.

"What are you doing?"

Rachael asked as soon as she noticed her side-death being occupied. She had, very clearly, told this man to go away. And she was more than aware that he got her hint.

And yet, he chose not only to ignore Rachael's words but also to sit beside her. His body was bigger than any other student, so he stuck out like a sore thumb.

Most importantly, Rachael did not want that teen anywhere near her. He had not done her any harm, but her instincts did not like this man at all.

"Hmm, you asked what I was doing, right? I'm just sitting beside you and keeping you company. Don't you like that I am doing that?"

The teenager asked Rachael, and she gave him the most suspicious look she had ever given anyone. But the teenager ignored all her warning looks and sat beside her anyway.

The whole class gave them a weird look, but neither the teenager nor Rachael could concentrate.

Finally, the class ended, and Suzie came back. Her face was red when she noticed the teenager sitting in her seat.

She tried to give him a small wave, but that teenager was too busy observing Rachael to pay attention to Suzie.

"Excuse me, but the owner of your seat has come back. Don't you think you should stand up and return her seat to her now?"

Rachael hinted at the teen that she wanted to be left alone. But as she expected, he ignored her comment and looked at Suzie calmly.

When the teen opened his mouth, Rachael felt he was about to say something irritating. Lo and behold, he did not disappoint Rachael.

"I am so sorry for taking your seat from you, but can I sit here for a little longer? I need to do a few things."

The teen smiled at Suzie, and Suzie was frozen in place by that smile. Rachael was sure she could pinpoint the second Suzie fell in love with the teenager.

'Ugh, now this is a pain for me. I hope I do not get dragged into this drama.'

Unfortunately, Rachael was already involved in this mess before it even started. If not because of the teacher, then Rachael would have undoubtedly stood up and changed her seat by now.

But since that was not the case, Rachael was stuck in her place.

'Can this day get any worse for me? Wait, maybe I should not have asked that question to myself.'
