"You said you were ordered to look for a kid with green hair who might belong to the Chlorance family? Would you mind telling me who your master is and how he got this information?"
Luca knew in his heart that this man had fucked up. It would have been better if he said that he was targeting their young master or the Dark Matter instead of going after Rachael Chlorance.
'Sorry, man, but you fucked this up yourself. I do not feel sorry for you or your subordinate.'
Luca was impassive, but he would not interfere during this interrogation. Especially when he noticed how pissed his young master looked. Not that it showed on his face.
That was why the prisoner relaxed and decided to spill everything he knew.
"Oh, so you were not going after me? Well, do continue what you were saying before."
The prisoner finally saw hope that he would be able to live. So, he started to talk about everything he knew.
"T-The one who hired us said he would give us a lot of money if we brought the Chlorance brat back alive. This rumor of that girl being alive and studying in this school is rather spread."
"B-But anyway, the man said he would reward us handsomely if we did as he asked. He contacted us through our guild, so we don't know his identity. B-But if you want, I can find it out for you."
If the prisoner had messed up before, he had hammered the final nail in his coffin. Before he knew it, a dagger embedded itself into the prisoner's head, and he was dead.
"Luca, clean up this mess. I am in a bad mood and want to be alone today."
Since the order was here, Luca had no problem following it. He decided to clean up the dungeon first and then crush the body, which was unrecognizable. Once he was done, it was time to report his findings to the elders.
They would not be happy and try to blame their master for this. But it did not matter since they could do nothing against this master. None of their powers or their successors matched Elias's even combined.
'Ah well, time to strengthen the security around young miss Rachael again. I am sure that the elders will try something funny with her.'
Everyone knew that their young master fancied the illegitimate daughter of the Chlorance family, and they all disagreed with his choice. But no one was brave enough to come out and say these words.
......
Rachael walked back home that day alone. If Emily was not waiting for her in front of the school at an allotted time, then it was likely that she was busy.
So, Rachael decided to make her way back to the tower herself.
As soon as she reached the tower, she looked at the amount of people around her with an awkward expression.
The servants move around the tower and look after things. It was clear they were there to guard the small group of children being led around by Rose.
You see, unlike Rachael, Rose was a social butterfly and had a lot of friends. She liked to go out and invite her friends back home. It was a daily routine, and Rachael did not pay much attention.
Most people would be jealous in this situation, wanting to be surrounded by friends all the time as well. But it all sounded tiresome to Rachael.
It would mean she would have to spend more time on friends than her business and dealings. That was something she could not afford to do.
Rachael was about to head into the tower to change her clothes, but a maid stopped her. The maid who stopped Rachael had a scary expression, and disapproval was written clearly on her face.
"What is going on here?"
Rachael asked as she looked up at the maid. She wanted to know why she had been stopped there. But the maid looked equally unhappy to be talking with her.
"I am afraid I cannot allow you to head in until young Miss Rose is done with her tour. She and her friends are inside, so you must be busy."
The maid ordered, but Rachael knew better than to listen to her. These maids might be adults, but they had no control over her. Rachael felt she would get by even if no one looked after her.
So, she ignored the maid's warning and opened the tower door anyway. That made the maid angry, and she raised her hand.
As soon as the maid did this, she had to lower her hand again. Young miss Rachael and her friends were finally out, and they looked at Rachael with a surprised expression.
"Rose, who is this? This girl looks around our age, but I have never seen her around your house. Do you know her?"
"Yeah, and she also has green hair like your father. Is she your cousin or something? My mother said that no one in your family had green hair except your father."
Rose's friends asked her, and she was in an awkward situation. She did not know what to say about this.
But it was then that she remembered what her brother had said when she had asked him about this girl her age. Rose had seen her around a few times but never talked to her.
"Ah, she is a demon caged into this tower because she can destroy us. Yeah, that's right. She is a demon, for sure."
Rose sounded proud of being able to figure out Rachael's real identity. An awkward silence emerged in the group as everyone tried to digest what Rose had just said.
Even the maids were shocked to hear her say these words.
To them, Rose was an angel who had no mean bone in her body. She had been raised with love and care. That was why they never wanted her to meet their family's shame.
"I see. If you are all done touring this tower, then can you please leave? This is my home, and you are trespassing in here."
Rachael asked, and the servants around her hissed and flinched. They were trying to tell Rachael that she should keep quiet, but Rachael was not in a mood.
She continued to look at the kids, and they began to look increasingly upset by the second. They could tell that they were not welcome here.
But then, a brave one among their group decided to speak up. Elias looked at Rachale and fisted his hands.
"T-This is not your home, but Rose's. You are the one trespassing, so you should go away. You are a demon, after all. This is not a place for you to be."
The kid was mean, and his words hurt. It's too bad that Rachael was too emotionally drained and mature to be hurt by those silly words.
Silence was the best answer in such a scenario. So that was what Rachael chose to give Rose as well.
"..."
Since Rachael did not respond to the provocation, Rose was finally interested. From experience, she knew that children got upset quickly. And she wanted to see the demon lose her cool as well.
"Hey demon, you should get away from my family. Mother and father are not happy to see you. If you do not want to die, then run away. I will make this tower as my new base to play."
Rose declared, but the elders knew this passion would only last a few days. After that, Rose would get bored of this place and never return. That was how kids were. They would easily believe a lie if you made it convincing enough.
"So, what do you say? Will you leave this tower now? Or would you like to become my food?"
Rose asked and looked at Rachael with a challenging gaze. This was the point most people gave up, and Rose got what she wanted from them. But this demon in front of her was different.
She continued to look back at Rose, and that made Rose nervous. Until now, no one had dared to stare her right in the face and say anything. This was a new experience for Rose.
And not a particularly pleasant one at that.
"W-What do you want?"
Rose asked, and Rachael just sighed. She knew Rose was behaving her age, and there was no point in expecting a kid to act mature. But Rachael had hoped for that to be the case.
According to the servants' gossip, she and Rose had the same father. Seeing that they did not share the same intellect was a disappointment.
"Please go back now. I am hungry, and I need food. But then again, since you all came here, I can just eat you. I am a demon, after all."
Rachael joked, but the kids took it seriously. One screamed, and then another screamed until they all ran out screaming. The maid who had accompanied the children had an annoyed look.
She looked torn between staying here and keeping an eye on the kid.
"Aren't you supposed to go after them? You will not gain anything if you stay here."
Rachael warned, and the maid finally made up her mind. She did not want to stay and look after Rachael anyway. She had other, more important things to be doing. And her true master was still waiting for her to come back.
As soon as the maid was out of her personal space, Rachael breathed a sigh of relief and quickly closed the door. Emily knew how to open the door if she ever found it close anyway.
Rachael quickly heated her food and ate it. She changed clothes, and it was time to prepare for the next day.
But as soon as she sat down to prepare, Rachael was overcome with a feeling of loss. For the first time since forever, she had nothing to prepare. No one had asked her for help, and no one had bribed her either.
So, Rachael decided to take a walk today and refresh her mind.
And, of course, she had to run into her 'brother'.
