Chapter 70 - Devil Comes Knocking

After Gu Shang took off, the curtains of the second carriage was slightly raised, only the beautiful red lips of a woman could be seen, but this was enough to tell that the passenger within the carriage was a beauty.

The red lips curved into a beautiful smile, as the figure seemed to be glancing towards the sky.

The curtains were slowly closed again.

"Your majesty, it may appear that the young general may have defeated the legion master, the assassin who once made the entire realm tremble in fear.

I fear that he maybe too powerful for you to go up against. In my thousand years of living, never have I seen anyone as extraordinary as this young man.

He has accomplished what the experts of the old age could never accomplish, and looking at his demeanor and energy, it appears he didn't struggle much when dealing with such a strong master.

It would be wise, if you have him as an ally, rather than an enemy" The old enuchu suggested with a bow.

This was an earnest request from a friend. Though he was no immortal king, he could feel Gu Shang terrifying and chaotic aura.

Gu Shang usually hid his aura very well, but tonight he wasn't emotionally stable as he was still furious, ordinary people may not sense it, but he was different.

He had served so many emperors and in doing so met many powerful experts, this has made him very sensitive to aura, and in all his life, no aura has ever scarred him like Gu Shang's own.

That boy was too terrifying.

The emperor looked in the sky, towards the direction Gu Shang had taken off from,in deep thoughts.

"We can't really be certain that, that assassin was the one from eight hundred years ago, perhaps it is his disciple or successor" the emperor said unwilling to back down.

The old eunuch couldn't help but sigh silently, the emperor had a very unyielding nature, for some rulers it was a good character to have, but for some it always ended in tragedy.

Meanwhile, things began to calm down in the capital, news of Gu Shang attempted assassination was now the talk of the town.

The only question on everyone's mind was, who was powerful enough to commission an immortal king to assassinate the Grand General? What kind of powerful hidden enemy was that?

But if they learnt anything, it was that Gu Shang was definitely a full fledged immortal king. In the past they were just speculations and guesses, but now it was confirmed.

This was even more of a shocking news than anything, it should be noted that though Gu Shang held enormous power and influence, he was still just a twenty year old boy.

If he's indeed an immortal king at that age, that would make him the youngest immortal king to ever appear in the history of the realm. The previous record has held by a 200 year old, and at that time that was considered a miracle.

The average age of attaining the immortal king realm was at the age of 600, and that was if the cultivator was dilligent and talented enough, if they came from powerful clans and sects and were prodigies, maybe at the age of three hundred or lesser than that.

Gu Shang feat of achieving immortality before the age of twenty five was more than a miracle.

If at this age he was already an immortal king, imagine his ceiling point. The sky was his limit.

He might actually become the most powerful cultivator to ever exist in this realm, that is, if he continues to mature at this rate.

At this rate people breathes began to increase rapidly as they thought of this.

"Does this mean that, the immortal empire can now be considered a high tier empire since we now have a bona- fide immortal king holding the fort?" A netizen asked.

"What do you mean high tier!? We'll be fit to have a category of our own, which would be incomparable

This sparked another debate through our the capital.

The capital at this point was sizzling with gossip, they had long forgotten their panic some few hours ago.

.....

That same night, Immortal empire southern boarder.

A large flying ship could be seen hovering above the clouds, one glance at the ship and one would be able to determine that it was a warship.

The ship was fully covered in scales, with huge cannons on the bow, stern and sides of the ship.

Engraved on the cannons were exquisite runes and carvings of the [Dwarf Tribe] which faintly glowed purple lights.

On the Prow of the ship, a gigantic scarlet Dragon sculpture was put there.

A scarlet flag with a Dragon stretching it's claw out hung on the ship as it swayed in the winds of dawn.

Two hundred soldiers were on board that ship, they wore scarlet armours which had claws attached to their shoulders.

Attached to their scarlet armours were long golden dark capes, along with golden helmets.

They looked as awe inspiring, as heavenly soldiers.

Just then a white figure appeared infront of the ship causing all the soldiers within it to go on their knees in salute.

The commander of the Squadron flew out of the ship and met Gu Shang, "The 55th Squadron greets the Grand General, all the two hundred Supreme Sovereigns of this squadron are fully prepared and ready to follow your command"

Anyone who heard this would have died of a heart attack. Two hundred Supreme Sovereigns!!! That kind of force was enough to sweep the entire continent clean, even a single supreme sovereign was considered a treasure, they ruled the world in actuality.

Immortal Kings were very rare to find, this made Supreme Sovereigns, the Pinnacle of power in the realm.

Supreme Sovereigns could shake the foundation of any empire, with just a casual sneeze, but Gu Shang had two hundred under his command, when did Supreme Sovereigns become so cheap?

Gu Shang nodded at them but couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.

Commander Yue, seeing Gu Shang raised eyebrows couldn't help but explain, "The Heavens eye has informed us that the Wei Ancestral Capital is guarded by a great formation. We'll need strong firepower to breach it, that's why we are deploying, 'The Scarlet Dragon'

He explained. Gu Shang nodded before turning towards the soldiers, "We attack as sunrise!"

...

Daybreak, southern boarder.

The Southern boarder was the boarder shared by the Wei empire and Immortal empire.

The Wei empire was one of the immortal empire biggest enemy, the two empire hated themselves to death and it was all because of spirit vine mine that existed between the two empire.

The Wei empire has been trying to swallow the mine whole much to the resistance of the Immortal empire, this insignificant feud had developed into a life long grudge.

The grudge further intensified when the new emperor of Wei ascended the throne, since his ascension he's been on a conquest to conquer the territories around him, the biggest of them all happened to be the Immortal empire.

This was the garbage that the Wei empire sold, but in actuality the reason behind the Wei empire sudden desire to conquer the Immortal empire was because the Wei emperor seeked validation.

He was actually a usurper who had usurped the throne from his brother, but even after ascending the throne, there was resistance from the nobles and common people who refused to accept his legitimacy to the throne.

But things would change if he could conquer the Immortal empire during his reign, people would begin to acknowledge him if he were to end the long bitter grudge between this two empire, whiles he improved their lives by swallowing the entire spirit vine mine.

But alas, some random kid named Gu Shang had become a thorn in his throat, thwarting all his attempts to invade the Immortal empire.

Causing a very prolonged war between the two empires, his people were running out of patience and riots began to seem rampant in his empire.

The only way to achieve his goal was to get rid of the problem, so he commissioned a very reliable assassin to take Gu Shang out.

....

On the boarder of the Wei empire, troops of soldiers could be seen in full gear, they were the Wei empires elite troops.

They even had an armored Cavalry ready to lay waste to the Immortal empire soldiers on the other side.

Now they waited because they expected the Immortal empire to be destabilized very soon, they would swoop in during the chaos.

Inside the commanders tent, a middle aged man with a sturdy build, wearing leather armor could be seen, looking at the map his spies had brought to him.

"Do you think the emperor's hired assassin would succeed?" The middle aged commander asked one of his lieutenants.

They all gave the middle aged commander a wry smile, "I see you all lack fate in this plan just like me" the commander said as he sighed.

"General, why don't you have a little faith, I've heard that the legion master of the legion of assassins would personally see to it that this mission succeed.

Don't also forget that the legion of assassins have a history in never failing to assassinate a target, I believe that long years of success won't just end, after all the legion master was the assassin who caused the chaotic age, eight hundred years ago, he should probably be stronger than he was eight hundred years ago"

One of the lieutenant suddenly said, he was trying to raise moral, but to his dismay, non of his colleagues were convinced.

"We've been fighting the Grand General of the Immortal empire for seven years, when he first appeared to stop us, I had almost killed him with a single punch of mine.

He was so pathetically weak at that time, I should have killed him during those days, no one can bear more testaments to that boy growth in strength more than me.

I've witnessed his development firsthand, and even when he was at his weakest, I could still not defeat him.

Now I can't even stand against his aura, that boy is not human, he's a genius that has never been seen in this continents history.

What I can assure you of, is that he'll certainly not die, not only will he not die, but he'll also defeat the assassin after his life, and then we are going to bear his wrath" The middle aged commander explained.

"That foolish emperor in the capital is sending us to our death, does he really think the we have what it takes to conquer the Immortal empire? What a joke!

The Immortal empire forces under that boy, it's not something that even a hundred Wei empires combined can defeat, yet that usurper wants us to march foward when the Immortal empire is in chaos after losing their grand general, what a joke? The only thing we'll be losing it's our empire" The commander said coldly.

"Tell the men to prepare to defend the walls of the fort!" He commanded.

All his lieutenant were surprised, they should be preparing for an assault, not to defend.

"If you actually think that some powerful assassin could defeat that boy, then I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but that won't be happening.

"But General, we have more than 500,000 troops, even if that man decides to attack, won't our numbers overwhelm him? It's there really a need to be this vigilant?" The optimistic lieutenant from before shared his doubts.

He was relatively new, so unlike the others who were looking grim because they understood Gu Shang military abilities, he was completely clueless.

The commander took in a deep breath. He couldn't believe he was about to become the first general Gu Shang would invade.

During the past, he's been trying to invade, but now the tables had turned.

Gu Shang for some reason had never invaded any empire despite his military growth, but his guts told him that, with Gu Shang character he won't sit still now.

He'll seek to set an example out of them.

Sigh.

Just then, bells began to rang as shouts echoed in the Fortress,

"It's the dragon claw guards!! The Dragon Claws guards are attacking!!!!!!!!!!" One could feel the fear in the voice of the soldiers as they screamed to alert the others.

"Enemies on the horizon!!!!!" Enemies on the horizon!!!! Enemies on the horizon!!!!!

"Speaking of the devil!" The commander couldn't help but muter.
