Bella cursed under her breath. She had worked so hard to reach him only to be thrown at the road again. Great!
She stared around and found many men women passing by. A few give her a glance as if wondering what a slave was doing there, in the area where respectable people lived. While others just ignore her as if her presence had nothing to do with them. It could have nothing to do with respectable people like they were!
Bella took a deep breath. Maybe it was not that bad. The man was dangerous. She could feel it on every nerve of her body. So it might be good that he had left her here. She might find a way to survive, a way to live without him.
Maybe if she would go and apologize to her father, he would let her live in the house again and eventually she would convince Ana to be her sister again. If not for others, they would definitely listen to her. Right?
"Hey you.." she heard a sharp voice from the other side and raised her head only to see a middle aged haughty woman looking at her with a frown.
Oh lord! Do not tell her that even standing there was a crime?
"Do you need work?" Bella blinked again. The woman did not look like a kind person who would offer work to strangers. But Bella still nodded. She did not know where she was and she would need money to return home or at least have dinner tonight.
"Good!" the woman nodded when Bella walked to her. "My carriage's wheel is broken and I could not send my knight in case someone would attack me. If you go and find the right man to repair my carriage. I will pay you one silver coin." that sounded easier than Bella had thought.
The man standing behind the lady gave her an apologetic look but she nodded with a smile. At least she would have some time to clear her thoughts.
She went into the market and asked about wainwright. It only took her a few minutes before finding a shope and entering.
"Excuse me, do you repair the carriage?" she asked softly as she entered the dark shop. Worried that she had entered the wrong shop.
It was too dark for an open business and had a strange smell that made her cautious. She took a step back, deciding to look somewhere else but someone held her from behind and pulled her back.
Her eyes widened when she saw the same old lady sitting on the chair at the other corner where the man had dragged her.
"You…"
"Did I not tell you that you have to go as a slave of the vampire lord? What are you doing here?" the voice of the old woman had changed into the voice of the high priestess, grandmother of Bella. Though she was sure the woman would never acknowledge their relationship.
The man holding her let her go with a wince only then did she notice that she burnt the man accidentally.
"This bitch tried to kill me, his priestess." he cursed and glared at Bella who stared at her hands. It had healed completely. No one would believe that her hand was injured just a few hours ago.
"It is her habit of biting the hands that tried to feed her." the high priestess shook her head in disappointment as if it was Bella's mistake that she was here.
"I didn't do it intentionally. It was an accident that happens all the time when someone forces me.' she shrugged, not at all apologetic that his hands were burnt. Her submission only came for her family. Rest of them were strangers.
"Why are you here, Bella?" The woman pressed hard with force in her voice when Bella turned to look at her.
"The vampire lord left me here saying I do not deserve the life of a slave." she whispered softly as she took a step closer to the woman and kneeled. "Perhaps we can find another way to attack him. He did not seem that strong to me. He is.."
"Slap!" a tight slap rang in the air and Bella covered her face with a horrified look on her face.
"You never learn. Do you?" the woman gritted her teeth, "i have told you so many times that you can only defeat him by knowing his weakness. That he could not be attacked but my words did not fall in your ears."
"That is not the case. I.. I have followed him but he decided to leave me here." she explained only for the woman to scoff.
"How much he had found you unappealing to leave you even after paying for you." Bella paused, shocked to hear the words when the woman continued.
"You have an ugly face but your body is average. If only you had shown more of your cleavage or seduced him, he might have kept you around for a week. But no, he was bored with you just after buying you. How pathetic must you have been!" something struck Bella hard. Is that a way a grandmother talks to her child? Was she nothing but a piece of meat in her eyes
"If he was leaving you, you should have begged him to stay. You should have did everything you could to captivate him, you fool.'' The man sneered at Bella as he stood behind the woman who did not spare another glance at Bella and started to walk away.
"Wait! Where are you going?" Bella ran behind them. She did not like this old woman but she did not need to meet her again, she could hide in her house for forever. "Take me with you. I want to go home."
"Oh dear, you have no home left."
