Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Boy's Name

*Souta*

The new kid smiled shyly and waved at the class as he slowly walked in. His hair was short and black and his eyes were a deep green.

"He's pretty cute," Sayuri said, giggling as she reclined her head on her hands.

"Don't go and hit on him," Ava said, crossing her arms.

Sayuri glanced over at her jealous girlfriend and chuckled. "Jealous because I called him cute?"

Nice going Sayu! Ava deserves to be teased.

"Uh, hello, everyone. Nice to meet you. I'm Kai Melanite," the new kid said as he smiled and bowed before the class. "I hope that we can be friends."

I sighed. "Although, it wasn't him," I whispered.

Sehun looked over at me and then back at Kai. "Were you expecting someone else?" he asked.

I shook my head vehemently as I felt his eyes start to dig into me. "N-no, I just expected the new guy to be more like you." I tried to give him my best smile. I hoped that it worked, I doubted that I could answer his question without making myself look bad.

I had better forget that boy soon. For a stranger, he sure had taken my thoughts over. I had to focus on who truly mattered to me, Sehun.

I waited for Kai to sit down and for Mr. Arata to turn his back to us and begin teaching.

I looked down and scribbled down some words. It wasn't what was on the board, though. It was much more important than jotting down some calculus equations. My heart throbbed as I wrote down the simple sentence. I felt as if it would jump out of my chest due to it.

I smiled as soon as I finished it. 'There, done.'

I eyed Mr. Arata for any signs that he might turn. Luckily, he kept his back to us. Not taking my luck for granted, I poked Sehun on the cheek with my pencil.

The prince gave me a 'what is it?' look. I held out my right hand underneath the table. He reached his left one under. I handed the note I was holding over to him and returned to writing what was written on the board.

My face was bright red. In the note, I had asked for him to wait for me by the cherry blossom trees on top of the hill near the central outskirts of the town. For some reason, the place was built like a crescent. Ava said it was because the hills and mountains were sacred, so no one wanted to build over them. Regardless, I couldn't wait to see Sehun's reaction to my request.

"Pst," Ava whispered. I turned and saw her leaning toward Sehun. "What did Sou say?"

Sehun smiled and covered the note with both his hands. "It's a secret," he said, chuckling.

Ava pouted and kicked his leg. "You meanie! I won't tell you about any secret notes I get either." She scooted her desk away from his.

"I'm cheering you on, Sou," Sayuri whispered from afar.

"What are you talking about?" Kai asked. The new kid had sat beside Sayuri.

"On their little relationship," she said with a wink.

My face reddened at her words.

Kai tilted his head at Sehun and me. "Huh?"

Suddenly the sound of chalk against the board came to a screeching halt. We all stared at our teacher while keeping our hands over our ears.

Mr. Arata turned around and walked over to Sayuri and Kai. He narrowed his brown eyes at them. "I know you're new, but you can't speak during lectures. As for you, Ms. Obsidian, I expected more from you."

The rest of the class snickered. "Ohh, little Ms. Class rep is going to get it," a student said. It was Kenny, a plain-looking boy with ashen brown hair who had a thing for 'two-dimensional' girls. He was a rather nice guy. One of the few who actually treated me nicely.

"I doubt it. She is the teacher's 'pet'." another said, this time it was Beatrice. A busty blond with long golden locks. Unlike Kenny, she was an awful person. The trash can was always spreading rumors about other girls. She even spread one about Sayuri sleeping with Mr. Arata for her A+.

Ava stood up, but her girlfriend grabbed her arm and shook her head at her. Sayuri moved her lips as if saying, 'You'll only make things worse.'

Sayuri put her head down as soon as Ava had seated down.

"Sorry, Mr. Arata," our female class representative said. "I will be a better example for Kai and the rest of the class."

Mr. Arata grinned. "I hope that you'll fulfill that promise." He glared at the rest of the class. "The rest of you, return to copying what's on the board!"

"Yes sir," we all said in unison.

I sighed. Why couldn't the day just end already?

[Two Periods Later]

"Those jerks!" Ava said as she kicked a can. "You should've let me say something back to them."

Sayuri sighed as she held her tightly. "It's fine. It doesn't bother me at all."

"It does bother me!" She shook her head. "How can you say that it doesn't bother you? I've..."

Sayuri caressed her face and leaned in to kiss her. "There, how was that?"

Ava just stood still, her mouth wide open. Sayu sure was useful in shutting Ava up.

Ava's turned away and chuckled dorkily. "Uh, fine."

"You...you...kissed," Kai said, his eyes bulging. "Bbb... but you're both girls!"

Sayuri giggle and nodded. "We are into girls. Well, Ava also likes guys." She put her index finger up to her lips. "Well, I do..." She tilted her head. "Hmm, guess a more accurate way to put it is that I like cute people. It doesn't matter if they're female or male or whatever as long as they're people who are cute." She winked at him.

Kai's face became redder.

"Why are you dating Ava then?" I asked, putting my hands behind my back as we made our way to the cafeteria. "She ain't cute at all."

Ava shot her shot me daggers before turning toward her girlfriend to give her the same look.

"Flirting with the new kid, really?" Ava asked. "You barely know the guy. Even then you have me!"

Who was she to talk? She flirted with Sehun when he first moved here. First moved here... Amethyst eyes appeared in my head, causing me to come to a halt in the middle of the crowded hallway.

"Something wrong?" Sehun asked, his green opal-like eyes filled with worry.

"Are you sick?" Kai questioned, glancing back.

"Sou," Sayuri said with worry.

"I'm... fine," I said, slapping myself. "I'm just tired. Yesterday's storm kept me up, not to mention I kept having my blankets stolen." I turned and kicked a nearby wall. "That stupid jerk!"

Sehun and the others stared at me with suspicious eyes.

"You spent the night with someone?" Ava asked as she glanced at Sehun. "You heard that?"

My face became red. I moved my hands around in a circle. "No." Sehun continued to look at me suspiciously. "Sehun, you got to believe me. It's not like that at all. This guy was only..."

"A guy?" Kai said, his eyes as wide as when he saw the two girls kiss. "You like guys?"

I nodded. "Yeah. I do." I grumbled. This was the second time I had been asked that question in the past couple days... Ah, there I went again, thinking of that jerk.

Sehun crossed his arms and continued to walk toward the cafeteria. "So, what was this guy doing at your place?"

I ran up to him and hugged him. "Ah, so you do believe me."

Sehun's face became slightly red. "Let go of me, Ava is watching," he whispered.

I pouted. 'What's with him and Ava? Does he like her? If so then he has to give up on her, she's taken. Though if both feel attraction toward one another, why don't they date? Ava can always break up with Sayuri... Stop Sou, you can't give up now. Not until the confession.'

I let go of him and sat down at the closest table.

"Sou," Sehun said, furrowing his brow as he took a seat next to me.

I opened the lunch that mother had made me and begin eating my sandwich.

"What's wrong with him?" Ava said as she came over and sat down opposite to me.

I looked away. 'It's all her fault. Why can't she leave Sehun and me alone? She can't have both Sehun and Sayuri.'

A hand poked my forehead, knocking me out of my thoughts. I looked up and found myself staring straight into Ava's rosy pink eyes.

"Listen, idiot, don't make the one you care about worry about you," Ava said, frowning.

"I... I know..."

She smiled and she sat back down.

"Gods, I'm," I said. "Don't worry about me, jerk."

"You're the jerk here," Ava said, continuing to glare.

Sehun sighed and ruffled my hair. "Alright. How about we let it go?" He grinned, showing off his perfect teeth. Sehun really did act like a prince.

"Kya!" yelled a girl.

Sehun and I turned around and saw Shika standing behind us. She snapped a photo of us. "You two look so cute together."

I nodded and laughed. Shika was kind of an odd child but she was always cheering me on in getting closer to her older brother.

"We're not like that," Sehun said, sighing. "Sou is only my friend."

Shika narrowed her eyes. "Uh huh." She showed us a picture of when I hugged Sehun a moment ago.

"You're like a ninja," I said, shiny-eyed. "I didn't even notice you."

Shika snickered. "Of course I am. I also got some pictures of..."

Suddenly Shika's camera was snatched from her by a handsome opal-eyed boy.

"Give me that," the boy said.

"Amateru," Shika said, pouting. "Give me back my camera!"

Amateru put his hands on his hips and leered. "What do you mean? This is my camera. We are supposed to take pictures of all the students, not just of guys you're shipping with one another."

She snatched the camera back. "At least let me store these pictures before you delete them."

The boy sighed. "Fine but I'm going to be taking the photos from now on."

Shika nodded. "Alright, alright. You're so mean. You'll never going to get a boyfriend like that!"

Amateru rolled his eyes. "I keep telling, I'm not interested in guys!" He grabbed her hand. "Come, we got to start taking pictures to make up for your lost time."

Shika blushed a little as he dragged her away.

"Those two would make a cute couple," Sayuri said, chuckling.

Sehun laughed. "I doubt that my little Shika would ever fall for a guy like him."

"I don't know," I said, grinning as I watched the first years walk away. "He is cute. Plus he cares deeply for her, even if she might overlook his actions."

"Look at the time!" Kai said, pointing at his watch. "How long do we have to eat lunch?"

"Thirty minutes so like twentyish now," Sayuri responded.

"Relax," I said, shrugging. "We got plenty of time."

He blinked. "Thirty minutes? That's double my old school's lunch time."

"What kind of school was that?" Ava asked as she picked up a peanut butter cracker from her pink lunch box.

"A prestigious school in Sanuri's capital."

"You're Sanurian?" I asked as I opened my juice box. "How is it there?"

He nodded. "Astora isn't very different from Sanuri at least that's the impression I got during my short stay in Ame City. It's the shift from a city to the countryside which makes the transition more difficult than it should be."

Sayuri grabbed his hand. "If you'll like I can help you fit in."

Kai's face turned red again.

"Hey!" Ava said, leering. "Don't look at her that way."

"Oh but you look at Sehun the same way," I said with a grin. I touched my lips. "Not to mention you also nearly kissed me."

"What?" Sehun and Sayuri shouted. Both of them shot me daggers.

Sweat ran down my head. Oh gods, what had I gotten myself into? "She was teasing me, that's all. I didn't even get excited!" I laughed and looked at Ava. "Right?"

Ava shot me daggers too. Her foot met my leg.

I jumped out of my seat, leaping up and down. "Why you little..."

She pointed her fork at me, her face red. "You should keep quiet next time! That will be the last time I try to motivate you."

Sehun sighed. "It seems that it was only teasing. There's no way that there will be a relationship between these two. Plus Sou only has eyes for guys."

I rubbed my leg and nodded. "Yeah."

Sayuri continued to glare at us. "I'll let it go this time." She stabbed a grape in her fruit salad. "I know you're cute, Sou. I myself wanted to date you when we were little, but if Ava breaks up with me for you then..." She grinned. "Well, this will happen." She raised her grape. "Got it?"

I nodded. Why were all the girls at this school a bunch of weirdos? There was no way I would ever fall for a girl if all I saw were ones like these. Though, even with nice girls around, I probably wouldn't fall for any.

[Three Periods Later]

"Bye," Sehun said, waving. He had already finished packing his stuff and pushing his seat in.

"Wait, aren't you meeting me by the cherry blossom tree?" I called out, chasing after him.

Sehun turned around and bowed his head at me. "Please pardon me, Sou. I have to..."

"Brother!" Shika said, tackling him. "Ready to go? Sou, want to come too?"

"Where to?" I asked, adjusting my bag.

"To our family meeting," she said, winking. "You're going to be a part of the family sooner or later!"

Sehun pushed his sister toward the door. "Shika!" He bowed again. "So sorry. I'll make it up to you."

I looked down at my desk. I didn't want him to see the disappoint in my face. "It's fine. Go on ahead. Besides, I got to help out at the farm."

Sehun walked over and rustled my hair. "Can't you tell me what you were going to tell me here?"

My face felt like it had been lit on fire. "Uh... you see. Sehun, I..." I pushed him out of the away. "I'll tell you later!" I ran down the hall and even jumped off a window on the second story. I panted and continued to run until I got to my house. My heart was pounding loudly but it wasn't due to running and jumping.

I took a deep breath as I entered the house. 'Confessing is harder than expected.'

"Sou, are ya alright?" Ma asked as she emerged from the kitchen right as I entered the living room. "Ya face." She placed her hands over my forehead. "Ya're burning up. Do ya have a fever?"

I move her hands away. "I'm fine, really," I said, averting my eyes. "No need to worry about me. I'm going to go check up on Anabeth and Perceus. I haven't seen them since I closed the barn door during the storm."

"What?" my ma asked.

'Damn! Way to turn yourself in, Sou!'

"N-Nothing!" I said, snickering nervously. I ran out through the back door and headed for the barn house/stable.

"I've been waiting for you," a voice greeted me. Petting Anabeth was the amethyst-eyed boy.

I turned back and clenched my forehead. "Uh, I must be feeling unwell."

The boy chuckled. "I'm very real, thank you very much." He continued to caress Anabeth's head. "You know, you should really lock this place up."

I walked over to him and grabbed his left arm.

"What are ya doing?" he snapped, my accent growing thicker.

I pulled the sleeve of the shirt I had lent him the other day up and saw no wound at all. "This... is incredible... How in the world this you heal this fast? Did you seek out a Healer? No, there shouldn't be any living nearby... so..."

The boy shook his head. "I've been following the doctor's orders."

I felt my face warm up again. "I'm not a doctor, less alone a Healer."

"Ah, but you want to be one, don't you?" he said, pulling an orange notebook out from under his coat. It was my diary. "It also says here that you dream to be the husband of a Sehun Opal." He grinned. "So I was just a fling?"

I snatched it away from him. When had he managed to take it?

"Stop saying weird stuff! If someone overhears, they might think there's something else between us!"

The boy leaned his head back against wooden door and grinned. "I wouldn't say that our connection with each other is a small one." He pulled his hair up and tied it with a piece of red string that was in my diary. "There, much better now."

I could see his eyes better. They were a vibrant purple, the most spectacular shade of it that I had ever seen. They were some of the most beautiful eyes I had ever laid eyes on. Only Sehun, Sekin, and (I hate to say it,) Ava's could compare.

I quickly turned away as I realized I had been staring longer than I should've. "Uh...Hey, I've been meaning to ask ya..."

"Yes?"

"Are ya a member of the Amethyst Clan?"

The boy sat down and leaned his back against the wornout barn door. "Yeah, I am. My name is Purpura of the violet variant and ya are?"

I sat down beside him and grinned. "I'm Sou of the yellow variant. Now, how about ya tell me the real reason ya're here, eh?"
