Chapter 5 - Chapter 4. ELLA

My life has never been normal but these last weeks have been the worst. I woke up last month and I felt weaker. Not like sickness weak, more like a mosquito party had been held on me. My power level had reduced. I couldn't pull off my normal stunts. I quickly reported it to all the island counsellors but none of them had ever heard of my situation. Great I was going in a history book and the first hybrid whose powers were having depression.

I even told Calisto, the woman who brought me to Paricius. She had saved me from my evil grandma, Agatha who turned out to be a gargoyle. Agatha had told me that she was invited to come with me for dinner. No, it wasn't a grandmother showcasing the brilliance of her granddaughter. It was more like I was the dinner. My enigma powers activated and I stalled long enough for Calisto to disintegrate those old crooks.

I was called to Calisto Bright's office. I hoped she had news that would help me with my problem. I entered her office. It was big–even enough to beat 10 of our rooms combined. It had lime green wallpaper on its walls and white paint on the ceiling. The floor was covered with a yellow carpet. It was lit up by a chandelier that was made up of a million small rectangular glass reflecting light. There was a massage chair, a brown office desk, and an army green office chair. The chair turned to reveal Calisto.

She said, "Good evening, Ella." I replied, "Good evening, madam." She said, "Okay, the reason you are here is to get 2 tasks." Of course, she had no update on my situation. I asked, "What tasks?" She replied, "First, you are to bring a new hybrid here, and then you will have to assist Octaviet with his mission in Madagascar. You are to be back by tomorrow if you don't want to miss the Trials of Luna." I said, "I will be sure to do my best." She handed me a file. She said, "That will be everything that you need to know." I said, "Thank you, madam. Forgive me for asking but have you any news on my situation." I hinted that a weakened person shouldn't be sent out on tasks but she bluntly ignored it, "Sorry, dear but no news has come in. I will call you if I find anything." I walked out the door disappointed.

I read through the file. It says here his name is Carter. I hoped he doesn't put up a hustle. I packed a small amount of sleep-inducing powder. I summoned my nightmare beast. Okay, not mine since it lost its owner and arrived at the island so now it belongs to all pudeky hybrids who can summon it. So far, only Fiona, Octaviet, and I can summon it. Its name is Phil–a black panther with huge green falcon-like wings. I mounted it and to the sky, we went.

The first mission was fast. All I had to do was locate, save Carter from some mostri, and put him to sleep with the powder. I placed him on Phil's back and we went straight to the island. Halfway to Paricius, Phil felt tired so I directed him to a nearby fishing site. Once we landed, Phil disappeared. I could levitate myself to the island but both of us, it was impossible. I had used most of my chaos during training that day. Using chaos tears out the body.

A bad idea lit up in my mind. I guess it was better than none. I placed Carter on a canoe with some paddles. I propelled us for some distance. I called Fiona. Pick up. She responded, "What do you want?" I asked, "Can you please help me direct a recruit to the island?" She replied, "What do I gain in exchange?" I replied, "Make your demand." She said, "I want the amulet that amplifies chaos for only the Trials of Luna." I said, "I can't give you that because it is not mine to give. Choose another thing." She said, "No, I want it. Without it, there is no deal here." I hesitated and said, "Fine, I agree."

I floated off the ground and flew to Paricius. I had to put a lot of focus to keep myself aloft. I headed straight to Ephiria. She needed to hear Fiona's demand. She was the owner of the amulet. I said, "Oh hi Ephiria. How are you?" She said, "Fine. How are you? Oh no. I know that face. What trouble did you get yourself in this time?" I said, "It is Fiona." She said, "The ice queen." I said, "Yes, I am in debt with her and she wants your amulet for the Trials of Luna only." She said, "That would be taking our advantage. I always knew she was jealous of the amulet's power but I never knew she'd go this far. Why did you even put it on the line?" I said, "I had no other choice." She said, "I understand. Next time, try not to get yourself tingled in that witch's web. Don't worry. I will handle it from here." I thanked her and went to bed. A girl needs her beauty sleep.

Morning came. I did my usual morning routine and ate my breakfast. I went straight to the arena. It was a call by Calisto. Calisto addressed us all by talking about the coming of a new Parian. The golden question came. No one was taking him under their wing so I raised my hand. Rejection from half an arena leaves a toll on one's confidence. We went over and introduced ourselves after the ceremony and I sped off to my 2nd assignment.

I needed new transport since Phil was feeling tired. Cats like their sleep a bit too much. So, I headed off to get myself to Achilles Subway. A small station that had carts for trains. It also did personal transport. I went to the personal transport part and got a slip. They made me pass through black mist and boom–I was gone. I reappeared in Madagascar.

I was in a remote village, far away from any towns. It was in the middle of a forest. The file told me that I was to find a lupus guy here. Not lupus the disease. I mean lupus–a werewolf like mostri. Lupus does mean wolf in Latin in case you never knew. The guy was quite easy to spot. For starters, was wearing a midnight blue shirt that had an image of lupi howling under a glowing blue full moon. Last and most important clue of all, his eyes glowed in the sunlight with his teeth all looking like a dog's canines. He was tall with black hair and a beard. He looked about 30 in black jeans.

I followed him around all day making sure he didn't see me. We walked around for hours until the sun went down the horizon. The night sky was dark and filled with stars. I followed him into the forest of thin tall trees. We went in so deep; I could only see trees for miles. Suddenly my target disappeared. I looked around frantically. Had I lost him in this dark? Was this whole day a waste of time? I was swept off my feet by something hairy. The irony, I was being abducted by the person I was stalking.
