Chapter 6 - A mole?

"I have that meeting with the board members, and it's essential. I'll be gone for a few hours. Yuki will take care of you in my absence, alright?" Mariko informed Moriko of her current schedule. She had this important discussion with the board since they'd dived into a new line of business, gaming.

Moriko chuckled and waved her hand dismissively. "You worry too much. I'll be just fine. Go, do your CEO thing."

Mariko smiled in return, appreciating her sister's easygoing nature. She approached Moriko and planted a kiss on her forehead. "Take care of yourself, okay? And don't forget to eat."

"I promise, Mom," Moriko teased, and Mariko chuckled before heading out of the office. She trusted Yuki to keep an eye on her sister and give her a company tour as well.

Yuki took it upon herself to help Moriko familiarize herself with the Nexus building. As they walked through the corridors and rooms, Yuki provided a detailed tour, highlighting key areas and introducing Moriko to various employees and partners. She also explained the company's core values, its mission, and the importance of its cybersecurity services in an increasingly digital world.

"We're thrilled to have you here, Ms. Moriko. Nexus is at the forefront of cybersecurity, and your expertise will be a valuable addition to our team. By the way, Mariko's schedule is quite hectic, so please don't be surprised if she's often busy with meetings and client engagements."

Despite Yuki's informative tour and explanations, Moriko's mind seemed to drift away from the conversation. She found herself contemplating the mysterious stalker once again, wondering how her low-key and busy sister had attracted such a person. Her curiosity got the better of her, and she began to question the circumstances surrounding the stalking incident.

Yuki noticed Moriko's distraction and paused in their tour. In a concerned voice, she asked.

"Is everything alright, Ms. Moriko? You seem a bit preoccupied. Is there a problem?"

Moriko snapped back to the present and realized that she had been lost in thought. She offered an apologetic smile to Yuki.

"I'm sorry, Yuki. I was just wondering about something. Can you tell me more about the stalking incident? My sister mentioned it, but I'd like to understand the details better."

Yuki nodded understandingly, recognizing Moriko's concern for her sister's safety. She knew that she had likely volunteered to join the company with the intention of ensuring Mariko's security. With a reassuring smile, Yuki began to recount the details of the stalking incident, providing Moriko with a clear timeline of events.

"Of course, Ms. Moriko. I understand your concerns. The stalking began when Ms. Mariko's security team noticed a black Maybach frequently roaming around the vicinity of the building. At first, it didn't raise too many alarms, but as they dug deeper, they found that the Maybach always left the area around the same time boss did. That's when we started taking it more seriously."

Yuki then led Moriko to the control room, where they could review the CCTV footage. She gestured to the screens, each displaying different camera angles and timestamps.

"We've been monitoring the situation closely and have captured various moments on these cameras. I'll show you the footage so you can get a better idea of what's been happening."

As they began to review the CCTV footage together, Yuki provided Moriko with insights into the stalker's behavior, their attempts to identify the person, and the security measures that had been put in place to protect Mariko. The control room served as a hub of information.

Moriko, still focused on gathering information about the stalking incident, turned her attention to Yuki and asked a crucial question.

"Have the security team picked up any leads on the stalker? And have they reported this to the authorities?"

Yuki nodded in response, eager to provide Moriko with the latest updates on the investigation.

"Yes, we've been working closely with the security team, and they've gathered valuable information. We have reported the incidents to the local authorities, and they are also involved in the investigation. Our priority is Ms. Mariko's safety, and we're taking every necessary step to identify and apprehend the stalker."

"I noticed that Mariko didn't have any bodyguards with her when we were at the dojo last night. Has something changed with her security measures?" Moriko asked a pointed question, wondering why Mariko didn't have any bodyguards accompanying her when she visited the dojo the previous night.

"It's true that we have increased security around Ms. Mariko, especially during her daily routines. However, we also respect her desire for some privacy and normalcy. Sometimes, she chooses not to have a visible security presence, but we always monitor her closely from a distance to ensure her safety. We aim to strike a balance between her comfort and her security."

While Moriko listened to Yuki's explanation, a sense of doubt began to creep into her thoughts. She couldn't help but question the veracity of Yuki's words, especially considering her observations from the previous night when she had taken Mariko's car. There had been no bodyguards present, and no one had followed her, which raised questions in her mind.

Moriko didn't reveal her doubts to Yuki, but she started to wonder if there was more to the situation than she was being told. She couldn't shake the feeling that there might be something that the assistant was hiding, and her instincts urged her to investigate further.

With doubts creeping into her mind about the security situation around her sister, Moriko felt a heightened sense of responsibility for Mariko's safety. She couldn't ignore the possibility that the stalker had an insider or was receiving information from someone within Nexus, which had emboldened their actions.

Determined to protect her sister and uncover the truth, Moriko decided that she needed to be vigilant and discreetly investigate those around Mariko. She was prepared to weed out any potential connections or leaks that could be aiding the stalker's activities within the company. And top on her list was her sister's assistant, Yuki.
