Another nightmare.

I awoke wishing I'd had my familiar dreams of my brother. Suddenly, I craved longing and grief to lock away the guilt tormenting my memories. Whenever I closed my eyes, I was returned to yesterday's events, witnessing blood splatter and seep and fill the crevices of the ground's stone. 

Whenever the air was too quiet, the innocent girl's screams tore at my ears, and the thud of her body dropping made me shudder. 

There had been nothing I'd done to protect them. I had lacked the courage to go against my father twice, and because I feared the consequences, three innocent lives were stolen, their blood rooted into the foundation of our courtyard.

Sitting up on the bed, I hugged myself and rocked. I did not deserve to be here resting. I had to atone somehow.
