I was confused by what the Wyvern was implying with his statement. I mean, I understood what he meant but I was still confused nonetheless, and among that confusion was a tinge of anger still.
This Wyvern I just met today, who knew nothing about me whatsoever just acted like he had known me all his life, like he knew me even before I was born. It kind of angered me, see. But I kept my cool and pretended not to be affected at all.
'This Wyvern could kill me at any second, but he didn't. Why that was remained a mystery to me. Most of all, he said to me that my name wasn't my real name. Perhaps he knew someone who was like me sometime ago.'
'No, that's not it. If he knew someone like that, the person would have already been long dead by now. Wyverns hardly come out of their lairs, I mean, some people would even go their whole lives without seeing one so if this Wyvern knew someone, the person must have been long dead.'
'Moreover, for someone to make an impact on a Wyvern causing said Wyvern to notice him would require immense strength, which I do not have.' As these thoughts ran through my head, I managed to keep a straight face and was as calm as ever. 'This must be the result of that passive skill Dauntless.'
Meanwhile, I had noticed Father sweating tremendously after that question had been posed to him. Was I a reincarnation of someone, perhaps? I had also heard tales of reincarnations of some powerful entities who had shocked the world. That would also explain why the system mentioned something about reincarnation to me.
How about this? Since you do not wish to hand over the sword, I will follow the sword wherever it goes.
"What? Why would you do that?" I asked, quite shocked by the request from the Wyvern. By following the sword, that meant the Wyvern would actually be following me around all the time. It might help protect me at times but...
"I'm not too sure I want a large Wyvern following me around wherever I go. That would attract way too much attention, don't you think?"
Hmph. Humans. You underestimate whatever is not your kind, thinking you are all the most powerful. Step back, and let the great Eron show you his might.
As soon as the Wyvern's voice boomed this thought into my head, a maroon coloured fog spread from all over its body, completely covering it. I could feel a certain intense aura emanating from this dark reddish fog but the aura did not seem threatening. It was calm and friendly, I think. But strong, terribly strong.
The fog slowly shrunk back to where the Wyvern originally was and kept shrinking after going smaller than the Wyvern's original size, until the fog finally disappeared, revealing a small baby-like Wyvern with a tail and two short wings spread out on both sides of his body.
"Amazing..." I exclaimed. "How did you do that?"
"Hmph. Like I said, humans underestimate other creatures way too much. I am a Wyvern, it is only natural that I can change my size at will." He said.
"And now you can talk too."
"I could always talk. I just preferred not to. Rather stressful, see." The Wyvern stretched his wings and raised himself into the air, after which he suddenly disappeared. The next moment, I felt something light land on my head. I raised my hand to touch it, but ultimately decided against it.
You have some sense, at the very least. You will refer to me as Eron, Jason Xilmoa. Now, let us leave and head into the next adventure this sword has ahead of it.
"Eron, huh? Is that your name?" I looked at Father and the other three, they just stood there gawking. Anyone would be shocked after such a scene, see. It actually seemed like they didn't hear the last telepathic message. "Come on, now. Let's get the others. We don't want to sleep outside tonight, do we?"
At my urging, Father, Julee, Koval and the other female soldier quickly moved into the forest, tracking where the other soldiers had led themselves to hide from the Wyvern. We searched for a few hours, until dark, before we eventually found them lodged in a cave with a fire at the centre.
Leanna was pacing not too deep within this small cave, clearly anxious about the lot of us who had basically offered up ourselves. Almost made me laugh to think about how much she actually cared.
"Um... hey, Eron?" I called out. We were still a little ways from the cave but could see the inside from all the way out here showing that the cave wasn't big enough for them to go deeper in.
Yes, human?
"Can't you just call me Jason?" I asked.
Is that why you disturb me so?
"No." I wondered just what Eron was doing up on my head right now. Too bad I couldn't see for myself. "I want to know if you can like, hide yourself so you don't attract attention."
Is that not why I changed my size?
"Size or no, any Wyvern would attract attention. Unwanted attention." I replied.
Do not worry about that. I can turn invisible at will. I do not call myself a Wyvern for no reason.
"Alright, I would like you to stay invisible most of the time. Only when we are alone or in the presence of someone who already knows of your existence can you turn visible again."
And who are you to give me orders?
"I am Jason Xilmoa, wielder of The Sword of The Nether. If you still wish to follow me around, you will do as I say, okay?"
Whatever. Perhaps I'll kill you at some point if you order me around too much. All I need to do first is solve the issue of getting the sword off your hands.
"Well, you currently don't have it so you listen to me."
"We're here." Koval said. We were stood in front of that small cave where a little less than ten people were seated around a fire and one kept pacing at the back. As soon as they heard Koval's voice, the one pacing immediately dashed forward even before any of the seated could make a move.
She searched with her eyes and hugged Father, quickly letting go to do the same to me.
'Yup, I missed you too.'
"The Wyvern. Did your lot defeat it?" She asked, facing Father.
"Why don't we let Jason explain that." Father answered her.
