Synopsis
The Flame Maiden Lito woke up from the altar, but everything around her had changed beyond recognition. She stood on the hot sand dune, her vision distorted by the scorching air. She couldn’t help but cover the sunlight with her hand, looking up at the sky, only to see a scene like sunrise, from the white horizon to the orange dome, but the difference was that instead of the original sun, there was a huge hole, shining with dazzling light, even as a god, Lito could not look at its existence directly. The appearance of this sun seemed to have changed the whole world, the original dense forest and green grassland had long turned into ashes, forming a series of undulating sand dunes, and the towering mountains, now became black and bald rock walls burned by fire, the sea no longer existed, the seawater had dried up, replaced by a piece of steep stone beach, extending from the original sea level to the bottomless place. The earth cracked, new creatures appeared, new dwellings were built, everything was fresh, or decayed, lifeless, no matter how different from the past, and now, Lito needed to reacquaint herself with this world.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Awakening

A nightmare dragged the girl back to reality, where she was sitting in the middle of the altar in a cold sweat.

What was that? The girl seemed to have died just now, when she was kneeling in the center of a high mountain. Her neck was cut by a sharp knife, and blood spurted out, staining her golden medium-length hair and fair skin. Her head fell to the ground, and the only thing she saw in her last vision was that the surrounding area was full of soldiers wearing strange uniforms. They looked at her body coldly, without any pity or sympathy. That realistic feeling made her sway between thinking whether it was real or a dream, and she could only feel that her life seemed to be gradually fading away.

The girl rubbed her temples, then calmed down and looked around.

Where is this? She didn't know, she only knew that everything around her looked very familiar, but for her, it seemed that she hadn't seen them for a long time. The murals on the wall depicted scenes of self-immolation sacrifices. She could feel the screams and fear of the victims. The pure stone-built sacrificial chamber emitted a smell of decay and blood and a dusty secret smell. She could see some dried bloodstains and broken bones on the ground. The lifelike statues around seemed to be staring at her. And the altar under her, cold and hard.

The altar was engraved with her words, written in blood-red letters, "The Girl of Fire-Lito". And above the mural was also full of stories and portraits, that was a blonde girl who was naked. She looked like she was only 16 years old. She was wrapped in crimson flames, like a sleeping child. Her skin edges were burned black by the flames, her eyes were closed tightly, as if she felt no pain, and her lips were slightly open. But Lito also knew that everything above was about her.

Lito brushed her golden hair from her forehead and then wiped off the sweat. Her eyes flickered with uneasiness in the dark, and she felt her eyelids heavy and her eyes dry as if they were stabbed by sand.

This made her feel uncomfortable. She stood up from the altar and touched her body wrapped in white bandages. Her skin was cold and her blood coagulated. Inside her body, it seemed that something was wriggling. She looked like it was just a dream just now, hoping so, but she had a bad feeling in her heart.

Lito was wearing a very eye-catching red hooded robe at this time. The long robe was very ragged because of dragging on the ground for a long time. Her robe was covered with dirt and some places were even torn.

She pulled down her hood and walked quietly towards the door of the sacrificial chamber.

Lito put her hand on the stone door blocking the entrance of the sacrificial chamber. Thick dust covered the entire surface, like a veil of death. When Lito leaned against the stone door with her shoulder and then pushed it hard, the main hall outside the sacrificial chamber came in with an unbearable stench. This stench mixed with a lot of dust floated into Lito's nose, making Lito involuntarily frown. It was a rotten smell, as if countless lives were brutally killed here and then abandoned in the dark.

In the pool in the middle of the main hall, there were full of rotten bones.

It seemed that this temple had sacrificed many people, more than any temple Lito had ever entered.

Around the dark hall, there were broken stones everywhere. There were some skeletons and weapons scattered on the ground. Some skeletons still hugged their chests, as if they wanted to protect something before they died. Some walls were cracked and you could still see some traces of carving on the wall or some broken murals that could not see any information. Looking inside from the cracks, you could see that this temple seemed to be in a pile of rocks.

When Lito passed through the main hall and came to the front door. The front door had collapsed long ago. The door that should have been very wide was probably broken in half from the middle due to an earthquake.

Lito measured the width with her body. It was almost okay. With Lito's height and weight, she could barely get through.

On the pillars on both sides of the door, there were fine lines spiraling up and finally converging into a twisted spiral flame at the top. This was the emblem that represented Lito. But it seemed to have been sealed for a long time. The red paint had almost cracked and fallen off, and there was a lot of dust covering it. It made the flame look very dim. The door was also in a dilapidated state, covered with cracks and scratches.

She pushed open the door and a cold breath came on her face. She squinted her eyes and the surroundings suddenly narrowed. It turned out that it was a cave outside, but strangely, this cave was almost bare rock walls, without a trace of soil. She felt her footsteps echo in the hollow cave.

Lito swayed and leaned against the rock wall, step by step along this passage down. Her breathing became more and more rapid, and she could feel her physical strength being consumed. When her hand touched the rock wall next to her, she could find that it retained the effect of being artificially chiseled out. Now it seems that the existence of this passage is very suspicious. She didn't know who dug this passage or where it led.

Sure enough, she had just taken a few steps when she saw a rotting corpse lying stiffly in a pool of blood, unrecognizable. Its hands and feet were twisted into incredible angles, and its back was full of deep punctures, as if pierced by countless blades. Its skin had begun to peel off, exposing black blood vessels and white bones, emitting a nauseating stench.

Huh? What is this? This corpse had sharp teeth and angular features, a bit like a cat but also a bit like a dog. But it had very strong limbs. From its clothing and body shape and muscle development, it could even walk upright on the ground.

Is this a lynx? Lito thought, but she felt strange. She had never seen such creatures before. Where did they come from? Why were they killed so brutally?

The dried bloodstain of this corpse was like a red snake, extending along the road in front of Lito. It obviously dragged its broken body on the ground, towards the direction of the temple, struggling for a long distance.

Lito got up and followed the traces of blood. She occasionally saw some broken bones and shattered internal organs scattered on the side of the road. She didn't know if they belonged to that corpse or other dead people.

After a while, she passed a few forks and found that the surroundings began to brighten up. She squinted her eyes and felt a dazzling reflection coming from ahead. It seemed to be the exit, and the outside light hit the smooth rock and made the rock wall a little black. And a dry warm current also followed the sunlight and came in from outside.

Lito felt her throat dry.

Lito sighed and then put on her bright red hood and slowly walked outside with something to support her. An unbearable sultry feeling made Lito feel itchy on her body.

Lito blocked the sunlight and didn't expect it to be brighter outside. Her eyes were stinging and she could hardly see the surroundings. Maybe it was because she had been in the dark for too long. She needed to spend some time to adapt to this strong light.

The outside world at this time was not the sea, forest, and mountains in Lito's mind. But desert, rocky mountains, and black "ocean". Lito covered her eyes with her hand and looked out as far as possible. The vast land came into Lito's eyes. She stood on the waist of a high mountain wall. Below the mountain were layers of sand dunes spreading along both sides. And farther away. It was an endless pebble beach. The sharp stones also reflected the light and flickered. Under the sunlight, it was a desolate and uninhabited place with no signs of life.

What happened… Lito pursed her lips and felt a little dry mouth. She looked around and found that there was a yellow sandstone building about ten kilometers away. They were densely packed together to form a village. They seemed to be deliberately built low to avoid sandstorms, but they also made people feel depressed and gloomy.

It took twenty minutes of effort and Lito finally came to the ground. She looked up and saw that this mountain was part of a mountain range, and the position of the temple where she had just been was the highest peak.

She stepped on the soft sand and felt some sliding under her feet. She looked down and found that the traces of the cat-like animals had disappeared, replaced by some sporadic paw prints that looked like deliberately messed up arrangements. She turned her head and looked towards the village, but found that the village became blurred under the distortion of the heat wave.

Lito wanted to recall her last memory, but she only had fragments of pictures in her mind and could not piece together a complete story. She felt her head pierced by a sharp knife, and the pain jumped like an electric current on her nerves. She broke out in a cold sweat on her forehead and her breathing became rapid.

She remembered that she had run wildly in a sunny jungle, but she didn't know why she ran or where she was going. She only knew that in the end she came to an empty and desolate place. There was a tower there, standing on the edge of a cliff. The silver surface reflected the dazzling sunlight. The tower seemed endless, reaching into the clouds, making it impossible to see the top.

This silver tower made Lito feel fear and oppression. She felt that she was locked by the tower firmly and could not escape. The tower was like a curse, deeply imprinted in her mind. Whenever she wanted to continue to remember, the tower would block between Lito and her memory like a huge wall.

Time seemed to pass slowly in the scorching desert. Lito felt her body dried up by the sun. She had wandered on the same barren land before, but she had never encountered such cruel weather. Her throat was like burned by fire, and every breath brought intense pain.

She lifted her head hard and tried to find a trace of shade, but she saw a terrifying sight in the sky. A huge circular object, emitting a dazzling white light, occupied the original position of the sun. What was that? Lito couldn't believe her eyes. The white ball was like a bottomless black hole, devouring everything around it. She saw some tiny objects, like stars, floating out from the edge of the black hole and then quickly sucked in.

Lito felt her eyes burned and quickly lowered her head and covered her eyes with her hands. She could feel tears flowing out from her fingers, with a bloody smell. She was afraid that she would go blind.

She looked for a place to hide and finally found a recess near the mountain wall. She stumbled over and plunged into the recess. She closed her eyes and tried to calm herself down. After a while, she felt her vision recovered a bit and then opened her eyes and continued to move towards the village.

Lito didn't know how long she had walked. She felt her footsteps heavier and heavier. Her lips were cracked and her skin was sunburned. So she wrapped her red robe tighter. She didn't know how long she could hold on or how far she was from the village.

She felt an unprecedented change, a change that she couldn't bear. She was Lito, the goddess of flame, the girl of fire. Her body should have been the incarnation of fire, burning with endless passion and power. But now she felt pain, felt burned, felt the breath of death.

She suddenly heard a sharp sound, like metal hitting, coming from behind a large sand dune not far away.

As she reached the top of the sand dune, the sight in front of her made her hold her breath. A gust of wind mixed with sand dust came from all directions towards her, as if to tear her into pieces.

Her red robe rustled in the wind like a blazing flame. Her hands and other parts of her body were wrapped in bandages like before, but some of them had been torn open by the wind force, exposing her scarred skin. She squinted her eyes and saw through the sandstorm that there was a village in the distance. That was her destination for this trip.

She clenched her teeth and spit out the sand grains in her mouth and then quickened her pace towards the village.

She knew she had no time to waste because behind the village after that towering mountain range a terrible sandstorm was slowly approaching. She had to enter the village before the sandstorm arrived or she might disappear forever on this barren land.
