"I don't know if I should either get a job or track down Cecilia." Came a masculine voice in the hallway. He walked out of the hotel with a black face cap and a black mask to conceal his identity. His phone buzzed in his pocket making him groan in frustration.
He brought it out and furrowed his brow at the ID. "Hey, Anna." He answered the phone.
Anna's voice was faint as her panting and hushed whispers over the phone could be heard. "Simon, haven't you gotten any money from her yet?" She asked, her voice faint, nearly above a whisper.
The man named Simon bowed his head, guilt etched on his face. "I want to work for now. I haven't been able to track down Cecilia."
"What? So you've been wasting your time in Spain? My mother wants to kick me out of her house, how am I going to cope with this child?" Anna barked over the phone, her loud weary voice was replaced with her continuous yells.
Simon couldn't believe his ears. "Why will she kick you out?"
"You better work hard or track Cecilia and bill the hell outta her. She must be with a rich shot so we need money from her or you'll work your ass out." Anna said before hanging up abruptly.
Simon tried so hard to conceal his annoyance and frustration. He didn't want to regret betraying Cecilia and ditching her for her best friend but now things were getting out of hand making him fight the urge to regret it. With a sigh, he adjusted his cap and headed to a place only God knows.
As he was walking along a dark alley, he found several posters on the wall which piqued his interest.
"Hmm, what's this?" He asked in curiosity as he pulled the poster from the wall, glancing at every word that was boldly written on it making his eyes twitch as he wrapped it up and threw it in the trashcan, terminating the idea from his head.
Everyone in the countryside seemed busy and Simon was tired from the long fruitless walking. He needed to fend for himself here in Spain and for Anna too who was pregnant.
He sat at the entrance of an old church, panting as he wiped the sweat away from his forehead. "It's a long and tiring day. How am I going to fend for myself and Anna? This is all that bitch's fault." He gritted his teeth as he bowed his head in frustration and agony.
The thought of going the offer from the poster flashed in his head but he can't bring himself to work in an adult entertainment industry even though the money they'd offer could make him drool.
"Eishh!" He shrugged at the thought of it, shaking his head to wipe out the thought from his head.
While he kept his head lowered with a series of thoughts running through his head, someone stretched out a canned soda to him making him raise his brow.
He raised his head to see who it was. It was no other than a beautiful young chubby lady with doe eyes and beautiful long light brown hair.
"Cecilia?" He stood up in disbelief. "This can't be." Simon gasped, leaning closer to her as he pulled her in his embrace.
"Excuse me, mister, I'm gonna need some oxygen." The young lady said, trying to push Simon away before he finally let go of her.
"Cecilia, how did you find me here?"
"Dude! I'm not Cecilia. Call me Veronica." The lady named Veronica corrected as he folded her arms still holding onto the canned soda.
Simon blinked his eyes repeatedly still trying not to believe the lady in front of him wasn't Cecilia. Why the resemblance? The air was tense as he didn't know how to pull off the awkward situation he ran his hand through his head, sighing as he sat back at the entrance.
"You missing your Cecilia girlfriend already?" Veronica asked as she stood still in front of him, the wind playing with her hair as it flung back following the rhythm of the cool breeze. Simon couldn't help but admire her well-sculptured face and chubby cheeks that looked pretty much than Cecilia but come to think of it, Veronica was pretty tall.
"No, forget about it. I'm sorry for what happened earlier." Simon bit the lower part of his lips in embarrassment.
Veronica chuckled as he handed over to him the canned soda she offered earlier. "Here, I got it from the store. I think you need it."
Simon gulped hard. He hesitated before accepting it from her. He opened the cap and gulped everything down his belly. "Thank you, Veronica."
The latter nodded in response, smiling at the man who seemed satisfied by her warm gesture. "You don't seem like a native? What are you doing in the countryside, alone?"
With some strange thoughts running through his head, Simon didn't know if he could open up to a stranger but for some reason, he felt safe around her and thought maybe she could be his guardian angel.
"I'm an American. I came here to start up a life afresh." He said, with a weak smile on his face.
"That's quite nice. I won't dig deep about your private life then." Veronica returned his smile.
"Not that. I really don't have a place to go and my bookings will expire soon at the hotel." Simon's countenance fell. He couldn't believe he was playing a victim so she could accept him. For some reason he wanted to disappear from her sight but what if she might be of help to him?
Veronica took pity on Simon but she couldn't help but continue with her questions at least she had other things in mind for him. "I'm sorry to hear about that but your Cecilia don't live here in Spain?"
Simon shook his head giving a negative answer. "Cecilia is my ex-girlfriend but I'm over her. I just need a place to stay and focus on my life." He tried to come out with the best possible pitiful look as he gazed into her doe eyes that radiated like that of the blue sky.
"You can come live with me. I live alone too and you seem harmless." She winked at him.
Simon rejoiced in his mind, his plans were finally falling into place even though it was just an unexpected encounter.
