Chapter 182: Garp's Arrival
Franky House
A group of Marines surrounded the area, and an elderly man wearing a dog-head hat strode forward, punching through the wall.
Inside, the Straw Hat Pirates looked bewildered for a moment before realizing the situation.
"The Marines?!"
"They found us so quickly?!"
"Wait, I don't want to go to the big prison! Luffy, wake up!"
Luffy was sound asleep in his chair, undisturbed by the commotion. Zoro and the others stood in front of him, but the old man with the dog-head hat easily circumvented them, delivering a powerful punch to Luffy's head.
"How long do you plan to sleep? Get up!"
Boom!
Luffy was sent sprawling, along with the chair and part of the floor, under the force of the punch.
"Ouch, ouch, ouch!"
Luffy woke up in pain, nursing a large bump on his head.
"What are you talking about? Aren't you made of rubber? How could a punch affect you? Wait, did he use Haki?"
Sanji, cigarette in hand, recalled Rodney's methods when dealing with Luffy and found it troublesome. If he could use Haki, Luffy's greatest advantage would be nullified.
Moreover, they had never encountered Marines who could use Haki before. Could this be a desperate situation?
"It's not Haki."
Garp removed his hat and said, "A punch filled with love is unstoppable. Luffy, did you guys cause the trouble at Enies Lobby? You even flattened the entire island! What a mess! Hahaha, truly my grandson! Hahaha!"
Garp was completely unaware of the seriousness of the situation, and he wasn't sure if they were responsible for it. The surviving soldiers who had been knocked unconscious claimed that it was the Straw Hat Pirates who defeated them.
As a result, the entire Straw Hat crew was now wanted criminals.
"Gran... grand... grandfather?!!"
Seeing Garp, Luffy was completely taken aback. His childhood had been shaped by Garp's beatings, making Garp a shadow from his past. In front of his grandfather, Luffy had no intention of resisting.
"Huh?!"
Everyone present was dumbfounded. They never expected Luffy's grandfather to be Vice Admiral Garp. A pirate's grandfather was actually a Marine, and not just any Marine but a Vice Admiral!
What kind of family was this?
Garp crossed his arms and said, "Luffy, you rascal, do you have something to apologize to your grandpa for?"
"Well, Vice Admiral Garp!" Rodney approached Garp with a smile.
"Oh, Rodney, you're here too. I heard you were involved in the Enies Lobby incident," Garp remarked.
Rodney waved his hand with a grin. "How could that be? I'm a law-abiding citizen, a friend of the Marines, and a righteous comrade. How could I be involved in such a thing?"
"I heard from Tashigi that you went to Punk Hazard, and then Punk Hazard was destroyed. If it weren't already abandoned, Sengoku would have probably stripped you of your Seven Warlords title. Hahaha, you little rascal, you're growing so fast. And your physique, hmm, it's getting stronger."
Garp's large hand patted Rodney, but this time, there was no blood-coughing involved. Ever since acquiring the Lightning Armor, Rodney's physical strength had been rapidly increasing.
"Haha, thanks to Admiral Sengoku. Next time, I'll bring him a cart of Senbei as a thank-you gift." Rodney could imagine how annoyed Sengoku must have been at that time. It should have been quite amusing.
"Wait a minute, isn't Garp's name the same as that Marine hero?" Nami remembered the name, which was indeed the name of a Marine hero.
"Is Garp actually your grandfather, Luffy?"
"That's right, everyone, don't make any moves. I've almost been killed by my grandfather countless times."
Luffy knew Garp's strength and had no intention of letting his crew challenge Garp. In his heart, Garp was an insurmountable mountain.
"Hey, Luffy, don't you remember all those times I trained you? I threw you into abysses, into dark jungles, and much more, all to make you a great Marine!" Garp said nonchalantly.
Rodney couldn't help but say, "Vice Admiral Garp, isn't it too harsh to train a child like that?"
"Kid, training starts from a young age. Otherwise, how can one become an excellent Marine? Rodney, my friend arranged for you and Ace to live together. I didn't expect both of them to turn crooked. It's really worrisome. If you weren't so busy, I would have entrusted them to you instead."
You rarely visit Windmill Village throughout the year; you should at least pay attention to them.
However, he had placed Luffy and Ace in Windmill Village to protect them. In Ace's case, exposure of his identity would result in the World Government pursuing him relentlessly. If Luffy hadn't displayed his D. trait and rebellious nature, Garp could have kept him by his side, mentoring him or having Zeff take care of him. Luffy would have never become a pirate.
Due to various factors, he had no choice but to have Dadan raise them, focusing on teaching them how to fight and grow stronger. He couldn't change their ambition to become pirates, though.
"I always said I wanted to become a pirate, didn't I?" The Monkey family was quite stubborn. Once they decided on something, they never changed their minds. Luffy boldly contradicted Garp's opinion.
"All because of that Red-Haired Shanks! If I had pursued him back then, you wouldn't be like this now! Did you get poisoned by him? Ridiculous!"
Garp couldn't believe that Shanks had influenced his beloved grandson to become a pirate. He thought he could change Luffy's mind with his love and guidance, but now both his grandsons aspired to become pirates.
For the first time, he felt a headache coming on.
"He's my lifesaver! Don't you dare badmouth Shanks!" Luffy defended Shanks.
"You little..."
Garp grabbed Luffy by the collar and lifted him up, raising his fist. "How dare you speak disrespectfully to your grandfather, you little rascal!"
"Ahh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!!"
In front of Garp, Luffy had lost his resistance completely, astonishing everyone present. Garp's sheer strength had turned Luffy into this?
"Ah, ah, ah! Let go of me! Grandpa, it hurts, it hurts!"
The next moment, both grandfather and grandson fell asleep.
"Oh, oh, oh?! They fell asleep?!"
"Indeed, they're just like Ace!"
Rodney slapped his forehead in exasperation. This father and grandson duo was beyond help.
Smack!
Garp's bubble burst, and he woke up.
"Not again, he fell asleep."
He saw Luffy also sleeping and got angry again. His beloved grandson had spoken back to him and showed no sign of remorse. Garp raised his fist and exclaimed, "He's still sleeping! Is this how you show your remorse? Talking back to your grandfather!"
The next thing Luffy experienced was another round of punishment.
The Straw Hat Pirates watched the comical scene of the eccentric grandfather and grandson.
"You know, Garp, without mastering Haki, you should take it easy on Luffy. Haha!"
"Yeah, Luffy, you haven't even mastered Haki yet. You should cut him some slack. Haha!"
Both of them laughed heartily, and their laughter echoed through Franky House...
