School was a place Martin knew he would be able to properly think. He needed to sort out a lot of things.
Today was the second day in the month, and on Friday was on fourth of the month.
He had two days to prepare himself for whatever adventure he was going for.
Being a wind mage elemental gave the user the ability to harness the properties of the wind which meant that Martin would be able to blow away any form of obstacles on their journey.
The journey had to be in the forest of course, because there was no other place for a mission except the adventurer decided they wanted to cross the massive sea that separated the city from the rest of the world, and find themselves in a totally different location.
If that happened, Martin would have to find a way to ditch them after receiving the money.
"Axton!" Martin jolted up in his seat when he heard the commanding voice.
He looked up from his note which he had been scribbling on to realize that the teacher was looking straight at him.
"It seems you are so smart Axton that you don't bother to listen. This is not the F-grade that you have been undeservedly promoted from, and in here, your full attention is needed." The teacher's tone was gentle but there was hint of contempt which Martin didn't fail to miss it.
Martin nodded slowly, "I am sorry Sir."
"Keep that, and make sure to listen. The next time I spot you daydreaming, you are leaving my class." The teacher frowned before turning away.
He couldn't understand why the school council had agreed to promote someone that has attempted to kill a fellow student. The teacher didn't plan on letting this particular kid go scot-free.
Most of the students began to laugh at him but they ensured that the teacher couldn't hear them.
Martin didn't bother, it was obvious that the teacher didn't like him, and he didn't know the reason but he didn't really care.
However, Martin decided to focus. After listening to what the man was saying, he decided to go back to his scribbling as he had read this particular topic in the library.
Suddenly a statement from the teacher made him alert.
"In two months, you all will be going to for a physical training." The teacher said causing sounds of curiosity to escape the mouth of his students as they wondered what he was talking about.
Martin watched silently as Pinky raised her hand to ask a question.
"Hello Mr. Klein?" She said in a sultry voice.
Martin couldn't understand why he felt disgust on looking at her skirt that was way too short for her, but it seemed like she didn't care as it showed a glimpse of her underwear.
Mr. Klein nodded his head, giving her the permission to speak.
"What is this physical training about, Sir?" Pinky's voice was smooth but Martin slapped his forehead at her level of stupidity.
It was obvious that the teacher was going into that part, and all she had to do was wait a while.
However, Mr. Klein smiled softly at her, before thanking her for such insightful question causing Martin's mouth to fall open as he was shocked at how biased the man had just acted.
_Such a closet pervert!_
"The Physical training is something only the A-C grade students can take part in after their second rune awakening that would be hosted by the school." The moment he finished his questions, a lot of hands came up but he dismissed them.
"I know you all have questions but I'd advise you to let me finish," Klein's face suddenly became serious.
"The physical training involves the time you go out to the outskirts of the Shaded Forest to hone your skills against an actual beast."
Most of the students gasped when they heard the man because none of them had actually seen an actual beast.
They were all elite students whose families hired servants, and mages to keep them safe.
A student raised his hand, and Klein allowed him to speak.
"Are we allowed to bring our personal bodyguards?" The student asked causing his colleagues to nod their heads at his question.
They thought it was rather wise.
"No you aren't. Your performance in this training would determine if you deserve a letter of recommendation from the Dean to attend the Mage Order Academy." Klein said, pouring a bucket of cold water over those that were thinking to bring their guards.
Martin smiled inwardly, this physical training could increase his chances even if that overgrown ogre Sigrid wanted to disgrace him.
"What about if we get hurt, or worse, Killed?" The last word of the student caused the others present to shudder.
"You wouldn't go alone. I and Mr. Walker would go along with you to keep you safe, and assist you only when you need it." Klein continued, and with a raise of his hands, he dismissed the other curious students.
"According to the school rules, Class A would be the first to undergo this training right after the rune awakening. The school has also agreed to give you a month to practice after you get your rune, so you can become familiar with them." Klein said, looking around trying to spot anyone who wasn't listening.
His eyes landed almost instinctively on Martin but the boy was looking right back at him with a look of seriousness.
"We, the teachers wouldn't be at your beck, and call every time as we aren't your hired 'bodyguards'. We would only help you when you actually need it. Just try not to die before help actually gets to you."
Klein said with a calm look on his face.
Martin shuddered, What a scary human. Was that the best advice he could give?
"Your timetable would also change. You would be studying more on the course, Elemental Beastiology.
I'd advise you to listen attentively unless you want to be eaten raw by the beasts in the forest." Klein chuckled lightly but he awkwardly stopped when he saw the students' reactions.
"It's a joke. There aren't really any tough beasts in the forest outskirts. It's a place that people had been visiting for years, so the truly scarier beasts were already killed off, or driven out."
The students just stared at their teacher, it was obvious the man didn't care much about their safety, and just wanted to be paid by the school.
Maybe they could even pay him to protect them. None of them had ever seen a beast, and from what they had heard, the beasts ate humans, so the students thought of themselves as walking lunch.
However maybe Mr. Walker, and Klein would actually save them.
Martin's thoughts were definitely in another dimension.
He had seen a beast, and he understood what they had done but he wanted to know how would the school rate the performance before recommending a student to the Mage Order Academy.
But before Martin could say anything, someone had already beat him to it.
Henley didn't bother raising his hand before asking a question, ad he was the assistant to the class representative, and he had such privilege.
"Mr. Klein. How exactly are the students' performance going to be rated?"
Henley didn't have an elite background like most of the students in the A-grade.
It was because of Rider that he was able to still have a standing but he didn't want to rely on Rider his whole life.
Henley hated being a slave to Rider.
