Chapter 31 - PREPARING FOR THE EXAMINATIONS

"Henley, what do we do about that Axton kid?" Rider rested his back on the wall of the passageway.

He wasn't very pleased with how Martin had treated him, but he had an image to uphold in front of the students.

He was the admirable, and kind prodigy of the school. Students looked up to him, and they tried to follow in his footsteps which they would never be able to.

The only grade he hated the most were the F-grade students.. In his eyes, they were dead weight.

What Rider couldn't understand was why they were given a chance, was it due to their ability to be the perfect human shield?

He didn't want to think about it yet. He just wanted to get back at that Axton.

He had heard that Axton had crippled Jim, and Rob for no good reason.

Jim, Rob, and Bill were one of his top followers but now the first two were down, and Bill refused to report back to him so he would be dealt with later.

"What do you mean?" Henley raised a brow.

Rider just stared at him, causing Henley to cough.

"Ahem. What do you mean… Boss?" Henley finally said after realizing what the problem was.

"I was just a second away from putting you back to your place." Rider growled at him, trying to understand why good subordinates were hard to find.

Henley rubbed the back of his neck, and brought his head down. He hated Rider, but there was nothing he could do, he just had to keep up with it.

His father had gotten a job because of Rider's old man, and there was no other option but submission.

He hated everything Rider made him do but he had to put up with it because with a single word, he and his family would be out on the streets.

"I think we should let him be and…" Henley was about to say something when Rider cast him a strange glare.

"I mean, we could sabotage his chances of getting into the A-grade class." Henley muttered, inwardly he couldn't help but feel guilty.

Ruining the chances of someone's success in life was really something he never liked to see.

Rider removed himself from where he was standing and walked forward to where Henley stood.

His eyes sharpening, and Henley could feel fear generating from deep within it. He felt like a lone prey in front of a predator.

Rider place his hand on the wall trapping Henley, a ball of lightning appeared in his other hand, and a strange lofty smile appeared on his face.

"What makes you think he is that capable to beat me?" A small chuckle escaped his lips before he backed away with his hand in his face laughing out loud.

Henley knew it was best to keep quiet as he watched Rider, and he couldn't help but feel that Rider would be shocked by what Axton was be capable of.

"Come on Henley. I'm hungry." Rider walked away waving his hand in the air as he beckoned to his little bodyguard.

"On my way… Boss." Henley slowly walked beside Rider secretly hoping that someone was capable enough to push Rider of his non-existent throne.

While Rider on the other hand couldn't wait to prove that he was meant to be at the top by crushing every single student during the magical examinations.

______

"You can't tell me what to do Father." A young man with a dark brown hair walked up the stairs in anger, he just couldn't stay to talk about this particular topic.

"Lance Wyatt. If you do not pass the examinations, do not bother returning to this house, or your useless self, and your mother would be sent out of my house."

Lance didn't bother turning back as he gripped the bar on the staircase. He hated his father but there was nothing he could do as his mother still loved the man.

He did not want to be a mage but now he had to try.

Lance walked into his room, it was empty, and gloomy.

Arranged at one corner of his rooms were the mana stones his father had gotten him that he had refused to use, he took a glance at it before suddenly feeling a surge of pain.

Lance threw his chair around, kicked away his table even though the force shot a huge amount of pain into his body from his legs. Yet, he didn't care.

Somehow, the pain soothed the one he was feeling in his chest.

F**k the magical examinations! F**k the stupid Academy! Curse his father! F**k this stupid world itself!

Lance took a deep breath after he was done, the room was turned upside down, but he wasn't still satisfied.

Lance immediately turned around, and locked the door of his room. He brought out a little remote with a red button, and pushed it.

Something in the roof of his room let out a creaking sound, a door that wasn't present before suddenly appeared, and opened up.

A ladder immediately came down from the door, and came to a stop at Lance's feet. A smile appeared on Lance's face as he went up.

He was going to his little happy place.

"Finally!" Martin yelled out.

"Can you keep it down?" Ace turned around from the bed he was laying on. He couldn't understand why this Axton kid was yelling till he suddenly felt a formidable force.

"What are you doing?" Ace jumped down from the bed, and walked closer to where Martin stood, and his eyes widened.

Martin had a huge smile on his face.

Ace was mesmerized, his jaw came down as he watched Martin walking on air. The kid was literally on air, as if there was a staircase in front of me.

Ace furrowed his brows, he realized that Martin's cultivation was still at the same level from when he had first met him but he had just completed another spell so why didn't his cultivation level rise up even if it was just by a single bar?

What Ace didn't know was that Martin had a triple innate talent, and he currently had three runes which meant he had to master nine separate spells, and until he could master half of the spells, he would not be able to get an increase in his cultivation level.

"Heh… That magical examination would be a breeze." Martin said, starting to feel high.

"You aren't the only one participating in it. A lot of students are trying twice as hard as you are right now." Ace said immediately bringing Martin's spirit down from the clouds.

"I know that of course. That is why crushing them would be so much fun."

Martin had a wide grin on his face as he stopped the casting of his new spell.

Ace rolled his eyes, he felt that there was no way to talk to this boy.

The next day at school, Sheila had informed her students that there would be no more class so as to let all students prepare for the examinations.

The school authorities didn't want to hear any excuses from the students for not being able to pass so these few weeks was given to them to solidify their training.

The school ground was still open to the students in case they wanted to use the training area or the practice ground.

Everyone was looking forward to the examinations including the teachers. The teachers were even competing amongst themselves as they want each of the classes to go higher.

It was only Sheila that was cast aside because no one believed that her class had any special student. Look at it of course, it was the F-grade, the lowest class in the school, and she was their teacher.

Unless she was able to magically poop out a prodigy in a week, her class would be a total failure.

Sheila didn't respond to their taunting, she believed that all her students would get an upgrade, and there was one that she deeply trusted.

Two weeks quickly went by with a flash, every students had a secret weapon in their arsenal.

A light grey-haired boy opened his bright blue eyes, and stepped out of a brightly lit cave.

"It's time to prove to those rich snobs what this low-life orphan can do." A smile was lit across Martin's face.
