#Chapter Thirty-One
The servants heaved her luggages back into the mansion. "Bring them to my room," Serene ordered and they nodded their heads. She retreated to her bedroom, where she sank into a hot bath. Soon, it was dinnertime and she dressed in an evening gown before she stepped into the dining room.
"Serene," Frank said to her. "How are you, my wife?"
She smiled. "I feel great."
Frank beckoned a server and he came over. Bending down to his level, Frank whispered some words into his ear. The server then left the room.
"What's for dinner?"
"Duck," Frank said and she picked up her fork. She stuck it into the nearest piece of meat and ate it, the flavour spreading through her mouth. Footsteps neared but she paid it no mind. As they grew louder, her heart picked up when she saw Lachlan appearing.
"Why is the Head Gardener here?"
Frank gestured to the third meal on the table. "Well, he's going to eat with us now!"
