#Chapter Seventeen
"If you'd just done your job, then I wouldn't be raising my voice, now would I, Kitty?!"
"You've got to be kidding me. You have a phone with alarms you can set and a working alarm clock on your bedside table, and you expect me to wake you up at 7 am?"
"You're my daughter, you're supposed to make my life easier, not harder!"
"I don't get it. It is 7 am and you are up, so what are you so mad about?"
"Don't make me repeat myself! I told you to do your job and wake me up!"
"You're fucking up, can't you see that?"
Her mother gawked at her. "How dare you use that word on me!"
"'Cause you're not making any fucking sense!" Kitty yelled.
"That's it. You're grounded for life!"
Kitty scoffed. "Is that the only punishment you can think of?"
Her mother raised a hand up to strike her cheek but Kitty backed away in time. "You bitch!"
"Fuck it," Kitty said, picking up her bag which was by the door. "I don't care anymore." She wore her backpack and left the house for school, even though it was way too early. She made sure to slam the door as loudly as she could and since the day had started out so horribly already, she hailed a cab to school.
When she arrived, she did not even set one foot inside the school when one of Becky's friends passed by on a skateboard and dunked a large cup of iced coke on her body. The liquid drenched her entire torso and though she wanted to scream at them, all the fire in her was already spent. She simply made her way into the school and headed for the calmest place she could find.
