Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten

I spotted the two demigods that I sensed. They were hiding. They weren't bad, but there could have been some improvement.

Looking away from the two of them and toward the direction where the smell of monsters was coming from.

They smelled the two, and it looked like the two parties were looking for each other.

Where was the rest of the hunt? I couldn't sense them anywhere near here. What was Artemis thinking, letting the two of them off on their own?

Narrowing my eyes, I followed the two girls, remaining unseen as the monsters came into my sensing range. As soon as I could sense the monsters clearly, I understood what was wrong and what was the scent I smelled previously.

It was a minotaur, judging from the outline. Sighing in annoyance, I followed the huntresses as they were following tracks, unaware that their prey was tracking them too.

Usually, monsters didn't work together, they were more of a solo act unless someone was controlling them, it was either Hades or somebody else.

Why would somebody else target two random Huntresses? That didn't make any sense.

The other possibility was more concerning. Hades didn't have any reason to kill these two demigods.

My eyes widened in realization. Why would Hades attack Huntresses? With one of them being the daughter of Apollo. He was waiting for a response from the sun god.

Which was going to the camp and requesting a camper that could take care of the threat, which was me.

He effectively cut off any way of contacting me with an Iris message because you could not make rainbows at night, and he was keeping me busy with the monsters.

I felt my lips contort as the Huntresses made contact with the monsters.

The hellhounds rushed forward and Huntressed responded. Some of the monsters vanished into dust, a few well-placed arrows sending them back to Tartarus.

However, they were overwhelmed by sheer numbers and the minotaur hadn't shown itself yet, still hiding in the woods.

Deciding that enough was enough, I prepared my spear, eyeing the minotaur as it burst from the trees, letting out a roar that made the already desperate Huntresses, even more desperate.

I didn't delay anymore.

The spear left my hand, cutting through the air and into the chest of the bull, past its ribs and into its lung, exiting from the other side.

The roar I got in response was startled, instead of predatory.

Crouching on the tree trunk, I imbued my muscles with divinity and launched myself forward, colliding with the monster and sending it skidding on the ground on its back.

The two of us collided with a tree, stopping me from using the minotaur as a snowboard. Undeterred, I grabbed the spear that was embedded into the monster's lung and yanked it out.

Blood sprayed on me but thankfully, none got in my eye.

The minotaur's hand raised, trying to slap me off of its chest, but I just thrust my spear into it, and down into the ground, pinning it in place.

The inspiration got the better of the bull-headed man, and instead of trying to get up, he tried to use his other arm. In response, I reinforced my left leg, and slammed it on its other limb, leaning forward to put more weight on it.

I raised my left hand, and my vambrace turned into a round shield.

Without missing a beat, I brought the round object down, using it as a weapon. The edge of the shield impacted its snout, making its head snap to the side.

I raised my hand again and brought it down, piercing its skin and hearing a resounding crack of bone. The bull roared, trying to get itself free from me, but it was unfortunately fruitless.

Another hit, this time in the eye socket, and another crack. A cry of pain reached my ears from behind, and I looked back. It wasn't Apollo's daughter, but the other demigod with black hair, trying to get a Hellhound off of her.

Scowling, I unsheathed my sword and launched it at the overgrown dog, piercing its spinal cord. The distraction was enough for the huntress to pierce its neck with a hunting knife.

I felt the Minatour shift underneath me, and I leaned all of my body weight on my left leg, getting the right side of my body out of the way of a horn that would pierce my abdomen.

Twisting, I used my right leg and kicked its head back where it was previously.

Raising my shield again, I imbued my divinity into it, and the area around it. The gravity around my shield doubled, then tripled and I brought it down on its head one final time.

The monster's skull gave way, its brain splattering on the tree and the grass around us, some bits landing on my chest armor only for a second before everything dispersed into dust.

That should keep it reforming in Tartarus for a while.

I looked back to the two demigods, seeing the two of them surrounded by Hellhounds, I could sense the rest of the hunt coming, but I wasn't sure they could make it.

I grabbed my spear, fire bursting from the tip. I swung it in an arc, Leaving fireballs of fire that elongated into arrows, smoothed out, and rushed forward.

The arrows pierced different body parts of the Hellhounds, It wasn't long before their entire bodies burst into flames.

Now though, I had a larger problem to deal with.

The hunt was here.
