Chapter 67 - The Story Of A Gambler.

"Shit!"

Aiden sat up quickly, his breath coming in heavy gasps, as he looked around.

"Taaaaaa!"

The sound of heavy rain hitting metal disoriented him a bit, but he quickly calmed down and tried to asses his surroundings.

"Ohh, look, the sleeping prince had a nightmare," a sarcastic voice sounded out from the side, sounding familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.

Looking at the source of this voice Aiden discovered an odd sight, the woman named Binder seemed to have woken up, but she was tied up and Jonathan sat by her side holding a gun to her head as he observed her intently.

Looking to the front seat of the truck, Aiden discovered that Mai was the one driving, squinting as she navigated through the heavy rain.

"I hate the rain," Aiden muttered, his voice deep and groggy.

Suddenly a scoff came from the side, "of course you hate the rain demon," Binder said to Aiden.

"Will you make her shut up," Mai suddenly said from the front seat, a thick frown on her face as she focused on driving.

Hearing Mai's yell, Jonathan muttered, "Do I look like some brute to you? I'm a man of science."

Saying this he turned to Aiden, a smile on his face as he said, "You seem better, I heard from Mai that she hasn't seen you sleep since before this trail, you shouldn't do that, it's unhealthy."

Nodding at Jonathan's words Aiden said, "It's raining at this time of the year? How long have I been out?"

"Two days," Jonathan and Mai replied simultaneously before Jonathan continued, "Binder here woke up, not long before you did, fortunately, we got it under control, we were waiting for you to wake up before we interrogated her."

Hearing Jonathan's words Aiden nodded his head before saying, "You can relax now, it's not like she can escape now that I'm awake."

"Hump," Binder scoffed at the sound of Aiden's voice, her black eyes narrowed as she darted in, "If you think I'm telling you anything about my organization then you're dreaming, I couldn't tell you even if I wanted to."

Hearing Binder's words Aiden raised his brows, a sigh escaping his lips as he said, "I really don't know how to torture people, I might end up killing you so it's better you speak."

At the dawn of Aiden's words, there was a strange silence in the truck, as the group waited for Binder's reaction, but she said nothing.

"Very well then," Aiden muttered as his tail moved like a snake, climbing up Binder's leg.

Watching what Aiden was doing, Jonathan narrowed his eyes.

"Why don't you try using your soul command?" Landon's voice suddenly sounded out in his head, stopping him in his tracks.

Binder, who knew what Aiden's tail was capable of let out a mental sigh as she watched him stop himself.

But her break was short-lived as Aiden suddenly moved straddling her his face a hair breath from hers.

"Wha," Jonathan was startled by Aiden's sudden movement.

Glancing at the rearview mirror, Mai was also shocked by Aiden, "what the fuck are doing Aiden?" She yelled.

"Relax, I'm just doing a little experiment," Aiden's deep voice sounded out.

"Like your virgin ass could do anything without embarrassing yourself," Landon taunted in his head, but Aiden ignored him.

Binder who was at the forefront of this ordeal felt her body tense up, but she tried her best to maintain her demeanor, "remember what madam taught you," she said to herself, as she gazed at Aiden's abnormally darker eyes.

Now that he was up close she realized that the man in front of her wasn't so bad, with perfect features, mysterious eyes, and his long messy hair which fell all the way to his back, it wouldn't be so bad if he tried anything.

Aiden on the other hand was having different thoughts.

Trying to remember the vibe the Soul Sovereign gave when he used soul command Aiden tried to emulate that feeling his face expressionless as he said in a tone laced with inevitable authority.

[What's your name?]

As soon as he said those words Landon notified in his head, "You've used up ten percent of your Soul Energy."

Upon hearing this Aiden waited expecting an answer from Binder, but all she just did was stare at him with a mocking expression on her face.

Seeing this Aiden frowned in confusion so he tried again.

[What's your name?]

[Where are you from?]

[What's the name of your Organization?]

[What do you do?]

Soon Aiden started to feel strained as he was down to fifty percent of his Soul energy, so he paused.

Binder on the other hand said, "Ohh, so you've finally stopped talking? I thought you'd never stop."

Upon hearing this Aiden narrowed his eyes but remained calm as he asked Landon, "Landon what's wrong, why isn't it working?"

Landon was quiet for a while, before saying, "You did it before, I don't know what's wrong this time."

Hearing Landon's words Aiden stopped trying to copy the Soul Sovereign, instead, he remembered the word calm, he had said it to the singing demon, subconsciously using his soul command in the process, although it didn't have much of an effect due to the demon's high level.

Letting out a short breath, Aiden muttered again.

[Calm!]

As soon as he said those words everyone froze, Jonathan felt a chill run down his spine as his body stopped listening to him, instead it just stayed still.

"Bang!"

"Bang!"

The sounds of multiple collisions sounded out as the truck was left unattended to, Mai who was at the wheel was also experiencing the same sensation as Jonathan and as a result, she couldn't control the truck letting it crash Into a few soft stones.

Noticing this Aiden quickly jumped to the front seat from the back and took the wheel, letting it stabilize for a while.

At the same time a pang of dizziness overwhelmed him as Landon's voice sounded out, "You've used 30% of your soul energy, you have 20% left."

Hearing this Aiden was shocked, but still focused on driving amidst the downpour.

This went on for about a minute till Jonathan and Mai finally regained mobility.

"Get off me," Mai said to Aiden who got off her immediately allowing her to continue driving.

Binder on the other hand looked at Aiden in wonder, as soon as Aiden said the word calm, she suddenly felt a cooling sensation coarse through her, in that moment, she felt calm and free of doubt as though she could do anything.

Looking towards Aiden, who was climbing back to the back seat, Binder didn't say anything.

Meanwhile, Aiden who had just used the skill, somehow knew that it didn't work properly on Binder.

"Is this what she meant by she couldn't tell me anything even if she wanted to?" Aiden thought, confusion evident on his face.

Seeing Aiden's confusion, Binder suddenly smiled and said, "Your petty tricks are nothing before my mistress's direct order."

Meanwhile, both Jonathan and Mai were freaked out by what just happened, "what the fuck was that Aiden?" They both asked simultaneously.

Hearing the surprise in their tones, Aiden chose to remain silent, instead, he watched Binder intently choosing to use his Soul Command one more time.

Jonathan on the other hand, was still spooked by that hollowing sensation, "what was that?" He thought to himself in an inquest tone, by now Jonathan was getting more curious about Aiden, as he thought, "Whatever means this man used seems even more effective than the path of a Contractor or a Detritus Inscriber, I must learn it."

Saying this Jonathan narrowed his eyes at Aiden's tail, as he thought in his mind, "but it does seem to have its disadvantages though, although not everyone would agree."

As Jonathan was lost in thought he suddenly noticed something strange, the tip of Aiden's tail which was painfully sharp suddenly started emitting a strange bioluminescent purple glow.

At first, Jonathan was confused until Aiden's voice sounded out, [Where are you from?]

"I'm from the Seventh Shelter, Twilight City," Jonathan said with a dazed expression on his face.

"Pa!"

Hearing what he had just said, Jonathan covered his mouth with so much force that it seemed as though he had slapped himself.

The car was once again, enveloped in silence as Jonathan stared at Aiden's tail, thinking to himself, "There's no way in hell that tail is a disadvantage, it's a cheat!"

Meanwhile, Aiden, Mai, and Binder were shocked at Jonathan's sudden answer, looking towards Jonathan, Aiden noticed that he was staring at something with a spooked and bemused expression on his face.

Ignoring the feeling of exhaustion he felt from losing another 10% of his Soul energy, Aiden traced Jonathan's vision to the tip of his tail, and he discovered that it had a purple glow at its tip that was beginning to dim.

Aiden suddenly thought about something, and just as he did he heard Landon's voice in his head. "You have discovered the dual skill Enthrallment Glow / Commander's Radiance,

the Sovereign commends you for discovering a skill on your own +1 consciousness, new area unlocked, pages of knowledge."

Upon hearing this Aiden was shocked, so shocked that he laid back in his seat, from the shock came excitement as he raised up its tail observing it as though he had seen a new toy.

Jonathan and Mai although spooked by what happened chose not to say anything as they knew that Aiden would just brush it off if they asked anything.

Binder on the other hand, couldn't take it anymore, the powers that Aiden used just seemed too much for there not to be a price, "How can these guys classify this person as a normal human, first his tail doesn't seem to be a shapeshifting ability, he's super fast, has superior regeneration, his senses are monstrous, and now he seems to be able to hypnotize people."

Feeling uncomfortable in her bonded position, Binder wiggled a bit as she reassured herself, "The mistress's commands are absolute, there is no reason to doubt."

Aiden on the other hand ignored Binder for now, instead, he summoned the Book of Souls.

As usual, a floating book appeared in mid-air, and its pages fluttered before stopped at one with a familiar diagram, it read:

Looking at his skill tabs, Aiden noticed that his skills had improved considerably, for one his blade mastery and dagger mastery had advanced, his crafting had improved from terrible to beginner, and his adaptive combat skill was also fully mastered.

"What the hell is rock mastery," Landon's voice suddenly sounded out as he struggled to suppress a laugh.

Ignoring Landon, Aiden thought to himself, "What is this page of knowledge?"

As soon as he thought about this, Aiden noticed that the book of Souls suddenly flipped a page, and on it, was a single sentence, it read:

(What do you yearn to know?)

Seeing this sentence, Aiden raised a brow, his heartbeat increasing with every breath as he thought to himself, "ok ok, emm, calm down let's test this."

"I always knew you were insane," Binder's voice suddenly sounded out, as she watched Aiden's expression change, the problem was he was observing thin air.

Ignoring Binder for now, Aiden thought calmly before finally deciding, "I yearn to know the cure to hell energy shock."

As soon as he said this, some new words appeared in the book, it read:

(The cure for hell energy shock, calculating cost...)

(Cost: 30,000 Male Souls all above the age of 80)

"What the fuck!"

Aiden suddenly yelled out loud, shocking everyone in the truck.

"What's wrong," both Mai and Jonathan said simultaneously, while Binder just chuckled as she muttered, "fucking lunatic."
