Chapter 68 - The Story Of A Gambler II

Ignoring Binder for now, Aiden thought calmly before finally deciding, "I yearn to know the cure to hell energy shock."

As soon as he said this, some new words appeared in the book, it read:

(The cure for hell energy shock, calculating cost...)

(Cost: 30,000 Male Souls all above the age of 80)

"What the fuck!"

Aiden suddenly yelled out loud, shocking everyone in the truck.

"What's wrong," both Mai and Aiden said simultaneously, while Binder just chuckled as she muttered, "fucking lunatic."

Unable to hold it any longer Mai asked, "Aiden are you really ok? What happened with the singing demon?"

Her question hung in the air, earning her Jonathan's approval, even Binder was curious as she too had been affected by the singing demon.

With a bit of a pause Aiden finally chose to speak, folding his arms he looked around and sighed, "It tried to possess me, so I killed it, but not without a price, it did do some damage but it's fine now, I'm all right."

Hearing what Aiden said, Mai nodded in understanding, she didn't expect him to reveal all the details to them.

"Hump, why tell us what we already know," Binder scoffed at Aiden.

Feeling fed up by Binder's attitude, Aiden used up the last Soul in his Soul storage, and so Landon's voice sounded out, "You've consumed a demon born of envy, +1 illusion."

Upon receiving a strange point, Aiden wasn't even surprised, he was already used to receiving strange temporary points upon consuming a demonic soul.

With his reserves fully recovered, Aiden lifted his tail, pointing it straight at Binder's face as he asked.

[I have no interest in your code name, what is your real name?]

As soon as he asked that question, Landon's voice sounded out, "You've used 10% of your soul energy."

Hearing this Aiden focused on the internal flow of his soul energy, and he noticed that more soul energy was moving towards the tip of his tail.

Soon his tail lit up, prompting Aiden to smile a bit, Binder on the other hand upon seeing Aiden's tail lit up closed her eyes immediately.

Seeing this Aiden narrowed his eyes and grabbed her by the neck, "open your eyes his voice sounded out as he applied some force to his grip."

"Crack!"

The Sound of bones tensing up could be heard as Binder was forced to open her eyes before Aiden applied even more force.

Upon opening her eyes, Binder felt a bad feeling corrode her being, "this isn't good," she thought to herself and just as she did this, she spoke, "My real name is C."

Upon saying this her eyes widened, her gaze finally turning into one of terror as she watched Aiden.

She had thought that even though Aiden had the ability to hypnotize people she would be able to resist, but she just couldn't, it was as though her brain had forgotten the meaning of the word resist as the information just flowed through her.

Mai was partially paying attention to what was happening behind.

Looking through the rearview mirror and seeing the horrified expression on Binder's face, one could somehow tell that Aiden's ability had worked.

"What kind of name is C? Eho gave you that name?" Jonathan's voice sounded out, but Binder didn't answer, instead, she bit her bottom lip, her expression as though she had just made a terrible mistake.

Seeing Binder's unwillingness to answer Aiden commanded, [Answer anything Jonathan asks you.]

As soon as he said this, Landon's voice sounded out, "You have switched from Enthrallment Glow to Commander's Radiance, 86% of total soul energy consumed, estimated duration of effect, 17 minutes."

Aiden suddenly used his arms to support himself as he felt his world spin, at the same time, his tail emitted a bright glow that Binder was forced to watch.

As soon as her eyes made contact with that light she couldn't stop looking at it, and gradually her expression became dazed.

Turning to Jonathan, who had his eyes tightly shut, Aiden tapped on his shoulder, prompting him to open his eyes.

Seeing Binder's state, Jonathan looked towards Aiden with wonder, and in the next moment, he excitedly asked, "Who gave you the name C?"

"My Mistress," Binder responded in a tone filled with adoration, her expression one of respect.

Glancing at Aiden again, Jonathan asked, "Who's your madam?"

As soon as this question left Jonathan's mouth, a look of heavy resistance could be seen on Binder's face as she remained silent.

Seeing this Jonathan frowned before asking, "What organization are you from?"

"We are the first branch of the Order Of Desolation," Binder replied with some difficulty.

Feeling curious, Jonathan asked, "Who is the head of the Order? What is your branch called? Are there any other branches? Are they the ones that sent you here?"

Hearing Jonathan's questions Binder strangely ignored the first three and answered the last one, "No my Organization didn't send me here, the Blue Dragon Syndicate did."

Upon hearing Binder's answer, Mai narrowed her eyes. "The Blue Dragon Syndicate? Is this organization related to the Blue Dragon betting house?" She asked but received no answer.

Jonathan on the other hand was bummed out that Binder didn't answer his first three questions, so he asked again.

Unfortunately, Binder refused to reveal anything about her Madam so he was forced to move on after a friendly reminder from Aiden, it seemed that she wished to keep her Organization in the shadows.

"Jonathan, ask her more about The Blue Dragon Syndicate," Mai's voice suddenly sounded out from the front seat prompting Jonathan to nod his head and ask.

"Tell me your connections with the Blue Dragon Syndicate, are they partners with the Order of Desolation?" Jonathan asked.

Upon hearing Jonathan's question, Binder's expression switched from blankness to disdain, "The Blue Dragon Syndicate is no match for The Order, it's only a matter of time before our Lord arises from the shadows, he and the Mistress will have the world in their grasp."

Hearing this everyone looked intrigued, and after putting the pieces together, Jonathan said, "So you are a spy."

"Yes," Binder simply replied.

"Tell me your story, how did you become a spy?" Jonathan asked.

Binder took a moment of silence, her eyes distant as memories flooded back. "I come from a world of scum, the underworld of the seventh shelter hidden in plain sight, at the young age of twenty I was already addicted to gambling, and the Blue Dragon betting house is where all the big shots roll, I've heard that you could win and lose a million Creda's in a few hands, and having earned a small fortune in betting I wasn't scared of losing, I loved the thrill, yes I was that good, damn good, but the game was rigged, I lost, and lost, but I didn't stop, I couldn't believe it, I normally know when to walk away, but I didn't, after falling into debt I hit rock bottom, I had to pay with my services so I did, I was forced to fuck a different man each week, for two long and horrid years.

Her voice tightened as she continued, the weight of past horrors lingering. "My life changed when I was attacked by a woman who had been possessed by a demon a few months ago, Threat level 19, I don't know how it managed to slip past the alarms detection, but it did, and it seemed to want a new host, I managed to put up a fight, but I lost in the end, I still remember the feeling, my mind in shambles, an unknown entity in my being, it was horrifying, but just as I was about to lose it, she found me, my mistress found me, with her divine powers, she gave me a new life, as for the demon that tired to possess me, it was forced into a full bloodline Contract with me, ending it's life in the process."

"But it wasn't charity. I swore allegiance, underwent rigorous training, became one of her hundred soldiers. Sisters by my side, we embraced our roles, even knowing we were pawns in her game. She took me in for a month of strict training and bestowed upon me the name C, the last of her hundred soldiers, I wasn't alone, I had a few sisters with me, although I didn't meet all of them the two I met felt like true family to me, they were called XCVII and XCIX, and it was through them that I found out that I was the weakest foot solider, I found out that the higher you rank, the more power you inherit from the mistress, with the top ten inheriting some special traits from her, the top ten are like her right-hand women, while we are further away from her. Although we knew that we were just slaves we weren't bothered by it, we were picked at rock bottom where we would have surely died, and although we knew that the mistress had played with our minds a little we didn't care."

Her words quickened, excitement and determination evident. "According to my sisters, the mistress's rise had been so quick it happened in a matter of months, it was through them that I learned more about my new family, I learned that my mistress single-handedly bought a falling tech company for a large about of money, we're talking billions of Creda's, she's insanely rich, a wealth that came from stealing hell crystals with the help of my sisters, but my madam thought it was too risky to continue, so she made a plan, in a week, around the same time she took me in, she pulled off three big heists, this is currently big news in the seventh shelter it shook the world of Contractors and the Silence is currently a laughing stock as a result. As the Silence made a wave searching for us, my madam made her move, purchasing a company, that would serve as a front for her next move, synthetic crystal manufacturing, yes, my madam, found a way to artificially create hell crystals of the first stage, a groundbreaking discovered, even I know nothing about this and my sisters only had a faint idea."

"As she pushed these artificial crystals into the black market she had more funds than she knew what to do with, at the same time to wash this dirty money she launched a project through her company, an app to be exact, an app that already has more features than the internet we are already used to, it was launched a month ago and it's already made her millions, of course, that's what the papers say, in reality, we haven't made much at all, but as long as the public buys it, there's no problem, of course, although all the things I described seemed risky and reckless it was planned out in details and the odds of success was very high. An app, a front, a façade of wealth. The public buys it, even if reality falls short. We navigate shadows, evade hunters, defy the odds. Isn't it exciting?"

Letting out a sigh of admiration, Binder continued. "But that wasn't enough, although she was already rich, she was like a paper boat, although she had me and my sisters at her disposal, she couldn't show us to the world, if she wanted to stay alive she needed to remain a human organization because she needed the protection of the hunters, for an organization to have the protection of the hunters they needed to have no Contractor's in their working body so we couldn't be revealed, Unfortunately, although the protection order given by the hunters could deter the organization's affiliated with Contractor's on the surface, it didn't stop them from doing anything in the shadows, according to my sisters Hunter's organization does have an idea about our affiliations with Contractor's but they chose to turn a blind eye to it, why? Because they want us to grow to be a thorn in the Silence's thigh, it's the same with the Blue Dragon syndicate, they protect us, we do business with them and at the same time give the Silence trouble."

Pausing a bit Binder continued, "Fortunately, the shadows is my madame domain. With my sister's help, she silently defended and attacked the enemies who wanted to know our secrets, but it hasn't been easy, although we have the resources, we are still on the losing end, they want the blueprints to the transmitter which runs our app, but we managed to maintain our hold over this property through murder intimidation and espionage, all in the shadows, but all out advances has been for nothing against our biggest foe, which is the Blue Dragon Betting house, an organization that is similar to us. It is a completely human organization on the surface, but they are the bosses of shady and underground business, they buy and sell anything, and they are the main obstacle in my madman's way."

Binder's gaze hardened a flicker of defiance in her eyes. "Although we couldn't do anything it didn't remain that way for long, with me, my madam finally saw the light, as a woman formally affiliated with their legal front I was sent back as a spy, the betting house was already looking for their property anyway. Power, it's a double-edged sword. As soon as they found out that I had somehow become a Contractor, and I wasn't even registered, they tested my loyalties through a few methods they turned nice to me all of a sudden, and I had to play the role of a newly formed Contractor who knew nothing about that world, confused and afraid. They were right about the fact that I was new, and I knew next to nothing about Contractor's really, but I wasn't confused or afraid, I'm just there to wait for a slip, and when I find it ha."

With a sigh, Binder leaned back, the weight of her past momentarily lifted. "So yes, my story may sound like a robot's recitation, but every word holds a piece of my soul, every memory a battle won. This is who I am, forged in the fires of adversity, ready to face whatever comes next for my madam."
