Chapter 39 - Filial To The Task

However, the theory had a solution to the problem. And that was in its theoretical purity of the bloodline.

See, the madman discovered that depending on the generation, specie, bloodline nobility, age of bloodline, and certain peculiar factors that also included but were not limited to medicinal treasures, The bloodline could either be purer or murkier than the other.

He also discovered that, just like the basic transfer of genes, the purity of the bloodline could be given to the next generation.

The fact that those of a particular nobility were in possession of a particular bloodline was already well known.

However, the origin of it was like the creeks of a flowing river. There were just too many sources and speculation.

There was also the general idea that the bloodline increased in purity the higher one went in level and power. However, it is also arguable that bloodlines had thresholds that could never be crossed and therefore power levels that could never be reached. This was all on the assumption that the impurity of a person's bloodline limited the scope of their growth.

Yet again, another reason for the value of bloodline.

In this world, there were only a handful of people like the madman scientist that was interested in such theories and disproving or acknowledging them.

Nevertheless, the fact that the purity of the bloodline was important remained, and Gray was very aware of this. After all, in his former life, he had gotten his own share of fighting figures whose bloodline abilities could literally make the earth tremor.

Then again, a requirement to test the theories as proposed by the madman scientist had never ever risen. Not until this moment.

Yes, Gray could feel it inside him.

It was said that a person's emotions are although not the individual, but still a fundamental part of the person.

Basically, in theory, a person's emotions carry the essence of their being.

Also, emotions were naturally carried or assertedly carried by blood.

If this was true, then it meant that they also mixed with the fundamental essence of the Individual's bloodline.

Gray's bloodline ability was literally Vengeance. An ability that fed on the negative emotions of those around him, turning the pain of their sorrow into his own strength.

The deeper the pain, the stronger he became. Of course, this was also on the condition that his muscles and bones were able to carry it.

However, if he could absorb negative energy which was still a fundamental essence of a person, didn't that mean that he could also take in their bloodline, and therefore, their bloodline power?

Of course, this meant that he needed a large amount of the foreign essence.

Right now, Gray no longer struggled. Although he was not aware of all the possibilities of his bloodline, it was definitely evident that his bloodline was so pure and so strong that it was literally brought into the mortal world by the Vampire god herself.

Driven by the intense desire to save his sister, Gray closed his eyes. His heart raged with anger like a storm but his mind was entirely the opposite.

It was calm and collected. Unlike the other times, he did not allow the sways of his body to decide for him the action he should take.

Experience, a daunting meticulous teacher had taught him that he needed more patience and an even calmer mind to assess the situation and deliver the most optimum solution.

His mind focused deeply as he caught a hold of the substance of his bloodline. For the past few days, all he had been doing was focusing his training on it.

Right here and now, that training was proving that he had done the right thing in improving himself.

Because right now, he needed control over molding his bloodline, shaping and twisting it like tofu.

Since the awakening of his bloodline, Gray had been fortunate enough to actually absorb a lot of negative energy. most of which he had taken during the attack on his former pack.

At that time, there was not another one that made an impact like the amount of negative energy he had taken from his big brother Dan.

It was the most relevant negative energy he had taken.

And now, deep within his bloodline, he could sense traces of it. It was like a ball of yarn hiding deep within.

According to the theory of the madman scientist, the closer the bloodline relation, the easier it was to absorb the ability of another Bloodline.

Instantly, Gray touched upon it. He touched upon Dan's negative essence, exciting the activation and mix of the bloodline with his own, as his body literally swallowed it, absorbing it like a raging storm, a boiling volcano threatening to vomit its blazing content to burn the world.

That unforgiving lava seemed to multiply in his bloodstream, infecting his own blood with the aggressive rage of its predecessor.

Gray suddenly felt that the world was too out of color, it was in need of immediate repainting. And his heart told him the only color fit for its repainting was the red from veins.

As bloody red marks like the roots of a tree, snaked around his body, taking hold of his weak muscles, pumping them with strength that was far beyond their station, The essence absorbed came not just with incredible strength and rage, but also memories.

They flashed before his eyes, his mother, Denver, in her last moments, and her instruction to her sons, whispering to them the aged duty tagged to being the last men of the house.

"Protect your Sisters," Denver had muttered.

All of a sudden, extra anger and annoyance, resurrecting the valor of the killer he had once been gushed through his veins. And like fuel to fire, it added extra layers of strength to him.

Gray's eye had been closed all this while. However, he suddenly opened them.

They were as red as the blood that flowed in his body, bulging with veins, all in anticipation of the slaughter he was to ensure.

He whispered lightly, "You have touched my sister, If I don't send you all on your way to my mother in purgatory, she would not know that I am filial to the task she left me..."

(Author's note: I too cannot wait For the Slaughter)
