Chapter 157 - Black horns

When Nathan arrived on the deck and saw all of Enarys' guards with their weapons ready to attack the large semi-transparent tentacle, he knew that this was something that had not been foreseen in the least.

Enarys was nowhere to be seen, so Nathan assumed that she was still inside his room.

He summoned Adan's black fang himself but had no idea how to deal with the calamity.

'Second rank, or third rank?' questioned Nathan trying to discern the strength of the tentacles' owner.

The three tentacles continued to strike the barrier that surrounded the ship but failed to break through it, to everyone's luck. Nathan did not know who or what relic had invoked the barrier, but he knew that it had to be powerful enough to resist such attacks.

But his luck did not last long, because after a few more attacks a slight crack appeared in the barrier, which in less than a couple of seconds broke and created a small hole.

The small hole was not big enough for the tentacle to enter, so Nathan sighed with relief that he would not have to deal with it.

'What is it doing?' Nathan watched the tentacle try to enter the barrier without much success, but suddenly he saw it from the tip launch small balls of acid that hit the deck.

Thinking that the calamity wanted to melt the deck, Nathan approached the stain left by the acid ball and frowned when he saw that it had not done any damage to the wood.

Nathan looked again at the other stains on the deck, which only confused him more than he was already confused.

Suddenly he heard the door to the captain's cabin open and Enarys came out, completely drenched in sweat. Her skin was much paler than before, and her lips were practically devoid of color.

"Get away from the acid stains!"

Nathan didn't doubt Enarys' words or any of his guards and they all quickly moved away from the stains.

At the same instant he backed away, a pair of smaller tentacles emerged from the acid stain, quickly attacking Nathan who barely had time to deflect both tentacles and continue backing away.

"Those weren't attacks, just extensions of him" Nathan complained as both tentacles attacked him again.

The tentacles were fast but not fast enough that Nathan wasn't able to react. "It's weakened... by splitting it also splits its strength"

Nathan waited for new attacks to come and this time he cut off both tentacles easily. These fell to the ground inert, and the acid stain lost color, as if it had died.

Having defeated the tentacles attacking him, it gave him time to look at Enarys' guards.

'They had no trouble' Nathan thought as he saw that they had finished off all the small tentacles. Then he looked at the hole in the barrier and saw that it had been repaired at some point.

The three large tentacles had stopped hitting the barrier seeing that their attempts were futile. They moved away and in an instant disappeared in the water behind the abandoned boats.

Enarys sighed seeing that no one was hurt and then staggered and fell to the ground. Her guards were quick to come to her support, but Nathan stayed where he was.

'She controls the barrier' Amelia muttered mentally to which Nathan nodded.

'She must have been supplying some relic with essence all this time, that's why she looked so weak this morning' Nathan turned around when he saw that the danger had passed and went back to his cabin.

There, he found that the Luschvik was awake and looking out the window.

'What is he doing?' thought Nathan as he walked over to the window. As he looked outside, he noticed that all the undead were now completely focused on them.

'So is that calamity controlling them?' he questioned and then stopped watching the undead and lay down.

Amelia materialized and slightly illuminated the room, Nathan looked at the orb of light and tilted his head in confusion.

'What is it, Amelia?'

She was silent, not knowing how to speak to Nathan, but after a silent sigh she spoke.

'It's been a week, but you haven't asked me anything... I know you overheard Vcansire and Orion's conversation, plus what he said when he took me'

Nathan watched Amelia for a couple of seconds in silence and closed his eyes. ''I'd rather wait for you to tell me and respect your privacy'

Amelia was silent again, a couple of long seconds passed, and she sighed. 'I remember everything... since Vcansire took me from you and Orion appeared, there I remembered. I remembered who I am and my history'

The Luschvik looked curiously at the orb of light floating in the middle of the room. But for some reason he felt a connection to it.

Nathan opened his eyes and sat up in bed, then stared at Amelia with a slight smile. "Are you going to tell me your story, Amelia Dyr Rysha?"

She nodded silently, but Nathan noticed some discomfort in her, even without her being able to physically show it.

Technically they had only known each other for a few months, but sharing day to day, led them to know each other too well. Besides, Amelia practically knew everything about Nathan from reading his thoughts and memories during those months.

Amelia smiled at the memory of this and lost the awkwardness she felt. For many years she had been in the hands of too many calamities, which led her to close her mind so that she would not go crazy when she heard the wild thoughts of the calamities.

It was for this reason that she lost most of her memories, and it was thanks to Nathan and especially to his essence that she gradually recovered them. But what mattered most to Amelia was that Nathan had trusted her, knowing that the moment they met he could have abandoned her, thinking it was a trick to trap him.

The Luschvik was surprised when the orb of light began to grow larger and fled to the cabin upstairs without knowing what was happening. In contrast, Nathan's eyes widened in surprise as he saw what was happening with Amelia.

"You..." whispered Nathan watching as the orb of light continued to expand until he could see a figure inside it.

Suddenly a blinding light began to shine and forced Nathan to close his eyes. By the time he saw them again there was a naked woman standing right in front of him.

Her pale skin glowed in the darkness of the room, she was slender and had a proportionate body. Nathan looked Amelia in the eyes and they both remained silent for a while.

Her eyes were red, as was her hair, which looked like beautiful flames that reached to her hips. Nathan opened his mouth to say something, but the words stuck in his throat when he saw the pair of obsidian horns sticking out of Amelia's head.
