Chapter 130 - A difficult barrier to overcome

It had been a while since the calamities had arrived, but they seemed to go on and on. No matter how much Faye and the other agents fought them, there seemed to be no end to them.

In the meantime, Nathan did not move at all and continued to watch his sister fight the calamities.

He had not seen her do her best, so he was aware that she was holding back in order to save as much of her essence as possible.

Nathan knew it, he knew that he was not the only one who had seen the third rank calamity slowly approaching, it was simply hard to miss.

At the end of the street, behind hundreds of calamities, a large gorilla, about ten meters tall, was approaching slowly but steadily.

Nathan had seen large calamities like the blood ogre or the pterodactyl, but the gorilla was simply enormous, of course, not counting the great whale, which was simply colossal.

A few minutes later, the gorilla was close enough to see them all clearly, then contrary to everyone's expectations, it stood still and simply growled slightly, releasing steam from its nostrils.

Nathan frowned at the gorilla's strange attitude, he knew that third rank calamities were more intelligent than lower rank calamities, but this one simply stood still, studying them.

Besides not knowing what the calamity was thinking, Nathan had never seen a gorilla-like calamity before, so he assumed it was an unknown species.

'Well... most of the calamities in the castle were unregistered'

It was then that the gorilla suddenly stretched out his right arm and grabbed a car that was parked on the side of the street.

'Don't tell me that...'

The calamity turned his torso slightly and raised his arm, then quickly swung, and threw it at the people in the street.

Faye watched the cart pass overhead, but being still surrounded by calamities, she could do nothing.

The cart continued to fly, then several agents behind her froze as they saw the cart spin in the air coming toward them.

"Dodge!" Faye shouted, trying to alert them, however, they were unable to react, and the car swept over them.

Nathan watched as the bodies of the three agents who were hit by the car flew backwards.

'...What an absurd force'

When the cart stopped seconds later, he observed the state of the bodies and frowned.

'Damn...'

The bodies were completely mangled, it was basically impossible to discern who the corpse belonged to.

Nathan stopped looking at the bodies and turned his attention to the gorilla, who had grabbed another cart and then threw it again.

This time everyone was more attentive, so they were able to avoid it. Still, there were about ten more carts, ready to be launched.

Faye clicked her tongue as she saw the gorilla grab another cart, then suddenly disappeared from where she was and appeared right behind one of the gorilla's legs.

Seeing her almost teleport away, Nathan's eyes widened slightly, and a small smile appeared on his face.

'She finally got serious'

Faye did not hesitate and swung her sword at the gorilla's ankle. However, as her sword hit his skin, it bounced off and she felt her arms go slightly numb.

Seeing how her attack had missed, she didn't hesitate and disappeared again, appearing right next to several other agents, including Tana and Lynn.

"I'm going to take care of that thing, I need the other calamities taken care of"

All of his subordinates nodded, then before they could say anything, Fate disappeared again.

Nathan turned his gaze back to the gorilla, trying to see where Faye would appear, however, Faye was nowhere to be seen.

'Where?'

Looking around the area, Nathan finally spotted Faye on top of a building, just the building closest to the gorilla, which also noticed her.

Raising his large arm, the gorilla attempted to swat Faye, who simply dodged his attack and without hesitation leapt to his hand.

Faye began to run down the gorilla's arm, which with its other hand tried to crush her.

The gorilla's only apparent weakness was that because of its large size, its speed was not as high, so Faye was able to slip through its fingers, dodging again and approaching the calamity's face.

Standing a few feet from its eyes, Faye raised her sword, then charged it with essence and suddenly disappeared again.

The gorilla was momentarily confused, but his rank was not just for show, so he reacted and closed his eyes tightly. At the same instant, Faye appeared right on the other side of his body and attacked his eyes.

As the gorilla had closed them, Faye's sword only struck his eyelids, leaving the calamity unharmed.

Cursing again, Faye disappeared just before the gorilla's hand caught her.

A couple of seconds later she appeared in the building across the street.

The gorilla opened his eyes and looked at her, then almost like a human, he smiled contemptuously.

Nathan was slightly surprised by the calamity's gesture, then he noticed how Faye had a completely serious expression on her face.

'Apparently it's still too much for her to handle alone'

Nathan knew that his sister was stupidly strong for a second rank, but still, she couldn't take on a third rank calamity alone.

For example, Nathan could take on a second rank first category calamity alone and possibly emerge victorious with some effort.

With a second rank-second category, he would have to do everything he could to try to defeat it. A third category was already something much more difficult and closer to impossible.

The point was that Nathan could more or less fight against a calamity of a higher rank than his. But that only applied from first to second rank and because he was somewhat abnormal among people of first rank.

But when it came to the difference between a second rank third category and a third rank first category calamity, it was something completely different.

Nathan might want to help Faye in some way but seeing how her attacks bounced off the calamity's skin, he simply gave up on thinking he could do anything.

Nathan was not entirely sure if his technique would work if it did not hurt the gorilla as such, and he doubted that a third rank calamity would be affected by his fear.

Surely he would have to deliver thousands of attacks for the gorilla to even feel that something was wrong inside his mind, so he quickly dismissed the idea of supporting Faye and stayed on the sidelines.

It was then that he realized that the others had finished with the remaining calamities.

Strange that more calamities hadn't arrived, Nathan realized that behind the gorilla there were hundreds more, only these didn't dare to walk past him, afraid of disturbing him in the slightest.

'I guess that's a good thing...'

It was then that he heard some laughter underneath the building he was in, so he peeked out slightly and frowned.

'I'd better shut up...'

Emerging from an alleyway, a dozen of Khan's soldiers... no, cadets, appeared and stopped a few feet away from the agents.

Nathan frowned as he saw the person at the front of the cadets.

'Lloyd?'

The cadets weren't supposed to be involved in this operation, only direct disciples of generals like him or like Syril, even Lloyd, but Nathan could recognize several cadets in the group, and he knew perfectly well that none of them were direct disciples.

Among those cadets, he recognized two in particular, whom he had met almost a year ago, at the same time he had met Lloyd.

That time, they had insulted him, but it had been so long since he had seen them that he almost forgot.

Putting aside the identities of the cadets, he kept silent and began to listen to their conversation.
