Chapter 131 - Feelings from the past

"I was so damn bored!" shouted one of the cadets, to which the others nodded and continued to mock.

"Fortunately we found something interesting" scoffed another cadet.

Then, everyone fell silent as soon as Lloyd raised his hand, then, he raised his gaze and looked at Nathan, who was also watching him.

"What are you doing here?"

Nathan hesitated whether or not to answer, to which he simply gave up and sighed.

"None of your business"

Lloyd frowned, but a couple of seconds later he simply ignored it and looked at the agents who were watching them warily.

"What are you thinking!" shouted one of the agents, clearly furious about everything that was going on in the city.

Lloyd simply remained silent, then a soft chuckle escaped his lips.

"Heh..."

Nathan stood folding his arms, watching the exchange between the two sides. The age of both the cadets and the government agents hovered around twenty, with the agents being slightly older than them.

That didn't take away from their clear current disadvantage, as they had just faced hundreds of calamities and were somewhat tired, while the cadets although they looked like they had fought a few calamities on their way there, seemed to be doing well.

Nathan didn't bother to listen to the discussion between the cadets and the agents, who were cursing each other.

'Even though they face an even greater threat, no one seems to care' Amelia scoffed seeing the attitude of both the cadets and the agents.

Nathan nodded at her words, but he himself was unaware of the reasons why there was such a wide separation between the two sides.

'They really hate each other... I guess it's something from the past'

The image of an old man was created within his mind, but Nathan quickly dismissed that thought as he watched the agents draw their weapons.

'Hmmp... they're going to start killing each other, I guess that's to be expected'

Losing interest, Nathan watched the combat between Faye and the big gorilla unfold, but they were at a stalemate where Faye was failing to harm it and the gorilla was failing to catch her.

'You're pretty indifferent to their lives'

Nathan looked back at the group of young men arguing ardently and shrugged.

'They're all immature, I couldn't care less about a conflict which I don't understand or make any sense of'

'Then what are you going to do? It's possible your sister could lose, which would mean the death of everyone here'

Nathan frowned, then looked back at Faye, who had somehow managed to wound the gorilla on its left arm. But at the same time, she was starting to look a bit tired, as if she was using enough essence to deal with the calamity.

Thinking about Amelia's words, Nathan suddenly felt conflicted. During his childhood he did not spend much time with his sister, because she was older than him and Noah by a few years, and she spent her time training.

They only shared a few days a month and holidays with their parents. Still, he couldn't call his relationship with Faye bad back then.

She was a loving sister who cared about them, but that was in the past.

Nathan thought he was over that past, but inside he knew that was a lie. He could not deny that it hurt him to think about the death of his family, even if they did not know of his existence.

But there wasn't much he could do. It all came down to whether Faye could defeat the gorilla or not, then at that point he could help.

'Oh, it started' Amelia whispered as she watched the agents finally lose their composure and run towards the cadets, who like them began to attack.

Both sides had about the same number of people, so it was almost single fights, although some stayed behind their respective sides as support.

Lynn fired several shots at the cadets, who began to be affected by the effects of the bullets. However, there were also some cadets among them who attacked at long range, so that everything was balanced.

Nathan quickly became bored, it was a pointless battle that did not interest him in the least.

More importantly, he focused on Faye, who began to move quickly, disappearing repeatedly and appearing in places that the gorilla did not expect at all.

Slowly, Faye began to increase speed, then few but some wounds began to accumulate on the gorilla's body. Still, such small wounds would not be enough to defeat him.

But then Nathan noticed how Faye's attacks began to change slightly as wounds began to appear on the gorilla's body where she had not attacked.

But after analyzing it for a few minutes Nathan realized that he was wrong.

'No... it's not that wounds appear where she hasn't attacked, it's that wounds appear where she has already attacked'

Nathan realized something, then essence flowed into his eyes and he observed Faye's movements more closely.

Then he realized what was really happening.

All around the area where Faye and the calamity had been fighting for a long time, were several distortions in the air.

With his large body, the gorilla collided with these distortions, then they disappeared, leaving a wound on his large body.

Nathan could not really understand what Faye's technique was.

He definitely knew that she could somehow teleport instantly, but the part about the almost invisible distortions he could not understand.

Another thing he didn't understand was the difference between distortion attacks and normal attacks.

While the distortions were capable of hurting the calamity's skin, Faye's sword barely managed to do so.

Nathan was lost in his thoughts trying to discover the secret of Faye's mysterious technique, so he did not notice that the battle between the agents and the cadets was also beginning to reach its peak.

Finally, after a couple more minutes, he realized that the combat between Faye and the calamity was beginning to reach its climax.

Faye had several blunt wounds on her body, while the gorilla's large body was riddled with wounds and his blood was spilling out onto the street.

The behavior of both had changed. While Faye was more assertive in her attacks, the gorila was more violent, almost crazed.

The street was a mess, cars crushed, buildings collapsed, everything was very different from almost half an hour ago, when the city was full of peace.

Observing the destruction, Nathan finally realized something he had overlooked for a long time, and that was the impact that they, people with superhuman strength and techniques, could have on society.

Nathan was still deep in thought when he suddenly saw Faye disappear again, to which the gorilla reacted and began to move erratically, destroying everything around him with the intention of hitting her.

However, what Nathan and the calamity did not expect was for Faye to appear in the air, right above the gorilla's head.

The calamity noticed Faye's position, so he raised both hands and clapped his hands in the air as he was trying to swat Faye like a fly.

Unfortunately for him, he failed, so Faye ignored the gorilla's head and aimed for his wounded chest.

Focusing on those same wounds, Faye raised her sword and thrust it into the gorilla's wounded chest. Then, taking advantage of her inertia, she began to slash the gorilla's torso all the way down to its waist.

The gorilla screamed to the sky from the pain, then tried to catch Faye who was still tearing its stomach.

But it was too late, because by the time the gorilla closed his hand to catch her, she was gone.

Finally, the gorilla's stomach was ripped open, and it began to topple forward, losing its balance.

Faye reappeared on the ground a dozen meters in front of the gorilla, then stood still and watched as it fell towards her.

Nathan frowned as he watched her stand still, then finally the body of the great calamity fell to the ground and raised a large cloud of dust.

Shortly after, the dust cloud disappeared, and Nathan saw how Faye stood a few meters away from where the calamity had fallen.

She stood still, trying to catch her breath. Her whole body was sweating profusely, and her chest was swelling with every breath she took.

Seeing her like that, Nathan realized that she was exhausted, but he was also relieved to see her well.

At that moment, out of the corner of his eyes he noticed how something moved quickly, then he saw how Lloyd was already a few meters away from Faye with his sword held high.

'Shit!'

Nathan didn't hesitate and knowing he wasn't going to make it in time he grabbed the bow on his back and loaded it with an arrow.

It didn't take Nathan more than two seconds to release the arrow, but as he released it, Lloyd swung his sword towards Faye, who had turned her head and saw how the sword was just centimeters away from her face.
