Chapter 114 - Letter from another world

Both Nathan and Amelia stood silently watching as all the calamities looked at them, then Amelia quickly reacted and scolded Nathan mentally.

'Try something else!'

Nathan quickly brought the flute to his mouth again and started blowing. This time, he plugged some holes in the flute with his fingers and produced a different melody.

The calamities kept looking at them and began to growl.

'It's not working!' Amelia screamed again inside her head.

'I know!'

Nathan poured more essence through the flute, but to no avail, and the calamities, although they could not see him because of the dark surroundings, began to approach the warehouse where he was.

It was at that very moment that the doors of the warehouse where the group was hiding opened, and two men dressed in black came out with torches slightly illuminating the area.

"What was that melody, a calamity?" asked one of the men.

"Calamities don't know how to play instruments" replied the other man, to which the other reacted by smacking him upside the head.

"I know, idiot. I mean a natural sound"

The man massaged his head in the area where he had hit him and looked around.

"There doesn't seem to be any unknown calamity around... Maybe someone did it?"

The other man closed his eyes slightly trying to see in the darkness but seeing nothing he gave up and turned to go back inside.

"Impossible, there shouldn't be anyone around, surely we misheard"

The other man nodded awkwardly.

"Yeah, surely that's it"

Both men walked back into the warehouse and closed the doors.

Inside the warehouse, Nathan was hiding with his back leaning against a rusty container.

'Good thing the calamities were distracted by them' Nathan sighed in relief and looked around.

Taking advantage of the fact that the men had left the warehouse, Nathan stealthily slipped out. His plan had technically worked, just not in the way he had expected.

Around him, there were only closed containers and metal shelves filled with wooden crates.

Nathan could hear several people talking away from him, but he didn't hear anyone nearby, but that didn't mean there was no one near.

'What now?' asked Amelia.

Nathan unwrapped the black Adan's Fang to his hand and took a deep breath.

'I'm going to investigate what they plan to do... and then finish them off'

Suddenly, Nathan heard footsteps nearby and held his breath to keep from making noise, and also stopped using essence to reduce his presence to a minimum.

Second after second, the footsteps came closer, then a yawning man appeared next to him and before he could react, Nathan grabbed him and covered his mouth before he threw him to the ground and without a second thought ran Adan's fang through his neck, slitting his throat.

The man's eyes widened in surprise, then several seconds later he bled to death on the spot.

Without hesitation, Nathan rummaged through the man's body and found several items. Among them, a relic in the form of a dagger, a bunch of keys and a letter.

Nathan threw the dagger aside and focused on the keys and the letter.

There were at least a dozen keys, each of which was supposed to open a different container. Putting the keys in his pocket, Nathan unfolded the letter and read it, then slowly his skin lost a tone until he was completely pale.

'Nathan?' Amelia asked when she saw that he didn't react.

But it wasn't that Nathan couldn't react, it was that he didn't know how to react.

On the letter, there was something written, something Nathan couldn't read because he didn't know the language, but he could recognize it.

'W-why? Why is this language here?'

No matter how much time passed, Nathan could not forget these symbols and letters, because they were the ones he had found in the abandoned village several years ago.

It was a letter from another world.

Swallowing anxiously, Nathan trembled slightly as if he were reliving the memories of that time.

His nightmares eventually calmed down, but they never disappeared. Sometimes he was simply so busy and tired after training that he did not give his mind time to think about such things.

But holding the letter in his hands, he couldn't help but feel dizzy.

'Nathan? What's wrong?'

Hearing Amelia's voice, Nathan bit his lips, regaining his composure. He closed his eyes for a couple of seconds and took several breaths.

Having calmed down, Nathan folded the letter and put it inside his coat to read it later with the book he had gotten himself in the abandoned village.

'It's nothing...'

He had no idea if the contents of that letter would be enough information, but he supposed it was likely.

Just by looking at the letter, Nathan somehow thought that the group Enarys had entrusted to him were not from this world.

Who are they? why are they here? how did they get here? why did they try to kill Enarys?

Nathan had many questions, but he knew he would not find them if he stayed still, so he took his mask out of his coat and put it on his face.

There was no reason not to wear the mask right now. As things stood, Nathan preferred to wear the mask... he felt more at ease.

Wiping the blood from Adan's fang, he began to walk silently through the corridors of the warehouse.

Nathan had not said anything, but he did not have to. Amelia had seen his thoughts and understood why he had reacted. She was also confused for her own reasons, so for the rest of the night she decided to remain silent while Nathan finished his business.

Skirting around the voices so as not to run into the group, Nathan walked through the dark corridors looking for someone who was alone and separated from the others.

Unfortunately, it seemed that the man he had killed was an exception, as the others seemed to be all together. Which left him no choice but to wait in the shadows.

Until finally, a couple of men broke away from the group and started walking towards the back of the warehouse.
