Chapter 28 - The So Called Ticking Time Bomb

With a loud groan, Seraphina kicked the air and pushed the duvets up to her shoulders on the bed with her eyes squeezed shut.

The morning light filtered through the window, it gently caressed her face, coaxing her awake but she was reluctant to heed the morning call.

She woke up on the wrong side of the bed, obviously in that she slept with a heavy heart and a troubled mind.

She tried.

She tried her best to push the thoughts of Gabriela and Sebastian out of her head before she went to bed last night but it ended up as an abortive attempt.

She fought off the strong desire she had to call Sebastian last night.

It was not an easy battle but Alas she won.

*voom voom vooooom*

Seraphina abruptly flung the duvet off herself as she sat up on the bed, her eyes slightly widened at the sound of the car.

As she climbed off the bed, she silently hoped it was Ethan leaving.

It would be a very perfect time to ransack Edward's office for the big envelope containing the marriage contract.

in a hidden distance, Seraphina watched as the car drove out of the compound with Ethan behind the wheels.

She wondered where he was off to but cared less as her heart now ached for the big envelope.

She had to get it now or never!

...

Seraphina pooped her head out from the entrance of the hallway where she stood, which led to Edward's office. She had to be careful not to be seen by any of the maids or Grace.

Her body quivered at the sudden eerie feeling she felt,

'what if his ghost suddenly appears'

Her mind wandered off for a second.

She shook her head continuously and gave herself a light slap on the cheek.

'get it together'

She took a step forward, her eyes carefully glancing around her.

Her heart burned with every single step she took.

*thump thump thump*

Her heart wouldn't stop beating so loudly.

She pressed a hand to her chest and gently massaged it.

If being tense was a person!

She heaved a silent sigh of relief as she finally arrived at the door that led to Edward's office.

'phew'

She took a final glance around as she held the doorknob but instantly froze,

'wait! what if the door is locked?'

She thought to herself but immediately shook the thoughts off.

'it better not be'

Well, there was only one way to find out.

With a quick prayer, Seraphina flung the door open and burst through into the room.

'halleluyah'

She gently closed the door behind her with immediate effect.

'Game on'

She stood with her legs slightly apart and her hands akimbo as her eyes scanned the office for any possible clue on where the big envelope could be.

"looking for this?" Grace asked as she stepped out of a corner behind the big wooden bookshelves.

Seraphina's heart almost jumped out of her chest as Grace walked towards her with a sly smile on her face and what seemed like the big envelope containing the marriage contract in one hand, up in the air.

Seraphina took a few steps back with a visible bug-eyed expression on her face.

She was utterly horrified by Grace's sudden appearance and the fact that she had the big envelope in her hands.

'What is her deal?' The thoughts raided her head

"Why are you here?" Seraphina queried

Grace chortled as she made her way to Edward's chair,

"That's bold coming from you who doesn't even belong here in the first place," she uttered as she sat down

"This is my father's office." She added with her legs crossed

Seraphina stood still, peering hard at Grace.

"And from what I can see, you came here for this?" Grace went on with the big envelope raised up,

"I'm I right?" She queried dourly

'I'm older than you, you little brat!' Seraphina snapped in her thoughts.

"Yes" was the response she gave

"And I'm sure it has nothing to do with you so please give it" she added with a distant look of plea on her face.

Seraphina quivered as the room echoed with Grace's sudden giggling.

"you wish" Grace bawled

Seraphina's lashes fluttered as the hair on her body stood stagnant,

She really was not prepared for an interaction like this with Grace, who seemed to have obviously lost her mind.

Seraphina sighed deeply as she moved a hand through her hair,

They should have gotten rid of her a long time ago.

Prison is the ideal place.

"You rushed here after waking up. This must really be important" Grace went on

Seraphina bit her lower lips, she slightly rolled her eyes

If she had a gun in her hand, Grace would be lying down, dead, on the floor already.

She was not in for any child's play.

She started to walk over to Grace with a deadpan expression on her face and her arms crossed over her chest.

Grace sprang up to her feet like she could sense the anger boiling inside of Seraphina.

"Give it" Seraphina ordered, her hand stretched out to Grace

Grace smirked.

She made to walk past Seraphina but regretted it immediately as her hair got pulled by Seraphina's tight grip.

"what do you think you are doing!?" Grace cried out, she kept turning to free her hair from Seraphina's tight grip.

"shut the f*ck up, you little brat!" Seraphina bawled. She swiftly yanked the big envelope from Grace's hand.

"Now listen"

"You are only free because I don't have your time yet"

"You and your brother belong behind bars!" Seraphina thundered.

She finally let out of Grace's hair with a little push which left Grace struggling up to her feet relentlessly

"Stay away from my business " Seraphina warned, with a finger pointed at Grace, whose hair was all over her face, breathing restlessly.

Seraphina gave her a final dead stare before sashaying away out of the room with the big envelope in one hand.

A little proud smile appeared on her face.
