Chapter 18 - Rematch

"Dirksen Han Vowser. Please refrain from sleeping at least in your mandatory classes, they are mandatory for a reason." The headmaster spoke as he picked up some chalk and began drawing on the blackboard. "Since I don't believe introductions are necessary and you all had plenty of time to review information about the school and upcoming events, I will simply go right into teaching." The headmaster said as he began drawing several magigliths.

I sighed, forgetting that 'headmaster' didn't just refer to the head of the school but also the senior most teacher. Of course Oswald would teach some classes. But why would he teach a first year class?!

I looked around at my classmates, more specifically using mana. There was Moxia, who was already a rank-1 knight apprentice, but upon comparing the mana, I found there were several equally as, if not even more powerful students. It wasn't an exact measurement of power, but it could be a good indicator of both talent and effort. Unlike me who had a sentient core which increased its capacity on its own since I was born, normal people had to meditate in order to increase the amount of mana their cores could hold, though they could use mana stones to accelerate that process. More talent generally meant less time needed for the same results. They would also only activate their cores at 10, it wouldn't be easy to reach rank-1 at only 16.

"Now you're probably all wondering why I'm teaching a first year class." Oswald spoke as he finished listing magigliths on the board. "That is because I believe it will be worth it as everyone in this class is a talent of their generation. More than that, some of you, more than expected, could be called once in a century geniuses. Thus I wish to make the most of all your time." Oswald explained, before launching into a basic explanation of magigliths and what they were, how they were used etcetera…

I wanted to fall asleep, but chalk would fly at me out of nowhere whenever I tried, so I was forced to listen.

At lunch I was immediately found by my elder sister and dragged over to her friend group, which consisted of mostly women and didn't have any mages. It made sense since my elder sister was a musclehead. Either way, after receiving some praises for the duel in the auditorium, I just ignored the conversation and ate.

For my last class, as expected, I wasn't the only one who took herbology to sleep, even the teacher, a nice old lady, seemed to have already accepted that fact and didn't wake us. I kinda felt bad about sleeping because of that, but not enough to not sleep, soooo, whatever. I would make it up to her another day by exchanging for a rare herb from the exchange store or something.

Either way, with that, classes ended and I was free to go home, which I did immediately, unlike every other student staying behind to make use of the academy's facilities to get stronger and train or to research new knowledge or whatever.

"Welcome back." Luna welcomed upon my completely expected return, being the first one back to the dorm.

"I'm going to lie down." I said, dropping my bag and sword on the table before heading into my room and closing the door, collapsing on the bed.

As much as I would love to sleep though, I had a foreboding feeling for tomorrow and decided another sacrifice was in order. I spent 1948 exchange points, 120 days of sleeping almost 17 hours every day, and raised all my stats to 100. As expected the muscle cramps and other horrible feelings hit me like a truck and I once again spent hours screaming into my pillow until my throat was dry. Well, actually it wasn't as bad as last time, but I still shouldn't hold the screams in.

Since I only raised my stats by a little less than triple instead of by 15 times, it only took about an hour and wasn't too bad honestly, it felt like I had done an intense workout and I simply asked Luna to prepare me cold water and I was fine after a while apart from some muscle pains. I also realised that exchange points might not be viable to increase my stats anymore after a certain amount. It would be better to focus the expenditure on skills and knowledge.

After my successful stat increase I also purchased basic weapon aura for 550 points since it went so well with the ocean splitting arts, using the free upgrade to mastery on it. Either way, weapon aura was a known thing in this world and was considered something learned at rank-2, so it would be useful regardless I'm sure.

After letting the headache and stinging sensation kick in after learning weapon aura my core seemed to respond by itself and started to condense some aura with spare mana, letting it sit over the top of my core like an armoured shell. After observing for a while, I fell right back to sleep.

There were times in my life where I wondered if I could sense the future. And I was almost curtain, that at least in this world I must have had some kind of innate ability, because just as I had predicted…

I looked between the system panel and the short pink haired girl in front of me.

"Sure… I'll oblige you for today." I said, before the teacher Moxia had brought along, to officiate the duel, lead us to one of the academy's sparring grounds.

We both took our stances, only mine was different from yesterday as I took the opening stance for the Ocean splitting arts instead of the imperial swordplay.

"You're using a different stance?" Moxia asked.

"I won't be using the imperial swordplay, so yes." I answered.

"Begin!" The teacher shouted.
