I woke up an unknown amount of time later. However it was only briefly and my mind was hazy due to the weariness I evidently had as a baby. I do remember being fed something though before falling back asleep.
While my mind was hazy though I did notice a young girl with blonde hair and a similar face who only looked 3 or 4 occasionally holding me with a massive grin. I guessed she was my older sister since other than my two parents the only other people that held me were a handsome black haired butler and an old maid who always handled me quickly while still being as gentle as my mother.
The process continued similarly for who knows how long as I briefly woke up, cried for some reason or another and eventually fell back asleep. All I really remembered was that I wasn't dying for any random reason, which was a good thing.
…
Who knows how long later it was as I regained most of my consciousness. My eyes opened up to see the ceiling as I lay in a wooden crib, some small shining bells hanging not too far above me.
With nothing else to do I soon opened my status panel once more.
'Eh!? Almost a whole week? Gone just like that?' I wondered once I saw my age.
The next thing I noticed was the very slightly increased strength and resistance, though I didn't pay much attention to the fractional increase.
'25 energy?' I wondered as I remembered it only being 10 before. Was it also part of growing up? I wondered, eventually concluding it was similar to the slight rise in strength and resistance, with any kind of powers I ended up using in the future probably taking hundreds or thousands of units of energy.
And so a while later, not feeling hungry or pooping my pants, the cycle of sleep with brief awakenings continued.
…
2 years later.
I was now fully conscious and awake long enough to begin doing experiments. Additionally, I had gained my own movement capabilities in the meantime and could escape my crib at will with a bit of effort. Though the system made sure to remind me that there was no need to expend such effort if I didn't need to.
In these two busy yet also not so busy years, I also received two gifts from the system thanks to my baby antics. Achieving an amazing 0% productivity and 97% laziness score from the system which provided two very useful things.
The first was [area-sense] and the second was unlocking the language super-comprehension function of the system.
They were relatively self explanatory and incredibly vital skills with incredible usefulness.
Area sense allowed me to expend energy from my core to know everything going on around me. It was difficult to explain but I could best describe it as a 6th sense similar to how I could simply perceive the feeling of everything around me.
Sadly, it wasn't a super useful skill for me. After all, while the system basically shoved how to use the skill into my head, giving me a compounding headache and migraine, it also limited my mind's focus to 15 seconds. Since using the skill thus required focus, it became rather useless for me since it didn't even last long enough to use a unit of energy.
More importantly though was that since the skill involved manipulating energy I suddenly had ideas on how to use it and could subtly feel my core. I would have loved to explore more but my thoughts would be constantly cut short and eventually I gave up.
'It seems my lazy habits can't change so easily…' I sighed once I had eventually given up.
As for the language super-comprehension function. It was just a library of languages which would naturally feed me the meaning of words spoken around me in a way I would understand. It also read my thoughts and helped give hints on how to articulate my words in whatever language.
I hadn't actually spoken anything beyond repeating some words my parents said yet. So I guess I will try speaking sometime later.
Back to the present, I was once again observing my status panel.
The biggest change was in energy. Previously it increased by 1 every 10 hours I had lived. In the last month I thought it increased by 1 every 5 hours. If it kept at the rate it was going I would imagine that the powers I might use in the future would actually take upwards of tens of thousands of units of energy.
The other was exchange points which I noticed correlated to hours of sleep I got. As a baby I seemed to sleep 70% of the time and holding true to my old habits and perhaps some influence of the system, that didn't change even as I turned two.
I imagined I could exchange them for something but was interrupted before I could start testing. While I was looking at the panel in my crib, I soon heard the door swing open.
Turning my head to look it was my dad, Baron Helmor Dan Vowser, who's previously well kept beard and hair had grown a little wild over the years. My dad walked straight to my crib, reached down and picked me up with a smile.
"Hehe. Common little guy. Come see your new sister." My dad said merrily with a chuckle, evidently in a fantastic mood as his smile didn't leave his lips as he brought me through the hallways.
"Sister?" I asked, purposely messing the words up a bit.
"Yes, a sister. You're a very smart little boy aren't you." My father happily responded, plucking up my hand and shaking it a bit in a bit of a handshake gesture as we entered the same bedroom I had been born in.
