Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Return to the Castle

The victorious return to Eldoria Castle was met with cheers and jubilation. The battle had been won, and Sir Cedric and Lady Elara, drenched in the glory of their triumph, strode through the castle gates. The king, Elara's father, awaited them in the grand hall.

"Father!" Elara exclaimed as she rushed to embrace him. "We have returned victorious, and the enemy has been defeated."

King Aric, a wise and seasoned ruler, smiled with pride. "My dear Elara, I knew you and Sir Cedric would not disappoint. This kingdom owes you a great debt."

With a gracious nod, he turned to Cedric. "Sir Cedric, for your unwavering loyalty and valor, I honor you with my sword." The king unsheathed his gilded sword and knighted Cedric with a ceremonious tap on each shoulder.

As Cedric bowed in gratitude, Elara's brother, Prince Galen, observed the scene with a deep, simmering suspicion. He had never fully trusted Cedric, and now this honor raised his doubts to new heights.

In the days that followed, a grand feast was held in honor of the victorious return. But the tension in the castle was palpable. Lady Elara's brother, Galen, was openly hostile toward Cedric, and his gaze never strayed far from the newly knighted hero.

That evening, as the moon bathed the castle gardens in its soft glow, Cedric and Elara found themselves alone. Elara's heart was heavy with worry. She knew her father would never accept her love for a mere knight, and Galen's hostility only fueled her concerns.

"Sir Cedric," she began, her voice trembling, "my father will never approve of our love. He expects me to marry a nobleman."

Cedric gently cupped her face in his hands, his eyes filled with sincerity. "Elara, my love for you is unwavering. No castle walls or royal decree can change that."

As he spoke, Elara's treacherous brother, Galen, watched from the shadows. Consumed by jealousy and anger, he decided to take matters into his own hands. Galen appointed a trusted guard to follow Cedric and assassinate him in the garden.

Cedric and Elara, lost in their conversation, remained oblivious to the impending danger. As they leaned in for a tender kiss, the guard, armed and determined, emerged from the darkness.
