Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Shadows of Deception

Cedric and Elara leant into each other for a kiss as the moonlight garden was filled with sounds of birdsong and crickets chirping, unaware that an unseen daggerman lurked nearby, waiting to strike at any moment. But Cedric sensed something was amiss - an alarm went off within him that something wasn't quite right with Elara or Cedric.

As soon as he saw that blade coming closer, Cedric's reflexes, far faster than any mortal's, kicked into action. Quickly seizing his opponent by the hand and pinching them against the wall with intensity far surpassing human, Cedric held firm. His eyes flamed with intensity that went beyond mortal.

Prince Galen watched with growing disapproval. Galen had his own secrets that this confrontation may reveal his intentions to kill cedric

Desperation caused Galen to emerge from hiding and kill the daggerman himself, saving Cedric from him (as it seemed to him) while keeping his own dark secrets at bay. He did it not for Cedric but to protect his own secrets from falling into public view.

Elara stood silent, taking in all of the disturbing events taking place around her. She could feel tension build between her lover and brother.

As the daggerman lay dead on the ground, Cedric looked at Galen with suspicion. Cedric sensed something amiss in him which left a trail of suspicion inside him.

Elara turned to Cedric with anguish in her heart and softly whispered, "We should leave now, Sir Cedric." looking at her brother as he ruined her and sir cedrics moment.

Cedric nodded and they left the garden together, leaving Galen to deal with his actions and their aftermath.

Cedric confronted Galen later, in a private chamber. "You saved my life, (according to you he murmured) yet my sense is that your intentions weren't very noble."

Galen met Cedric's gaze directly. "Yes, Sir Cedric. My position has its justifications, but you should know that I won't easily give in."

Cedric warned Galen not to intervene in his affairs or else there will be serious repercussions.

Galen's smile remained constant as he left Cedric with an uncomfortable sense of unease.
