Chapter 1 - 1

You'd never believe what happened even if Enki told you himself, his whole family had either abandoned him or treated him like filth. To the point he was forced to leave his home when he was just ten years old, young alone and hungry, he was huddled in a corner of a dimly lit alley. His grandfather had always taught him to never take the things that didn't belong to him if he could not afford the cost. For, it was better to die honest and hungry than steal someone's lively-hood and die a dishonest thief.

So, despite his stomach howling like a savage beast every few moments he tried to focus his mind on something else, his fourteenth birthday is under week away! If he can only make it four more days, he has a chance to enter a sect and when that happens, he will have three meals a day and a bed in a room of his own! Since he had left home when he was ten years old life had been rough for Enki there was a time when he didn't eat for three whole days and nights, at that point his ribs were showing, and he looked like a prisoner of war.

Thankfully, the kindness of a passerby or maybe it was just someone being lazy but a wrapped up half eaten loaf of bread had hit him in the head and woke him with a start back then... He had been able to make the bread last for two more days after that, being homeless wasn't easy. There were so many homeless already that finding any semblance of decent leftover food seems a miracle itself.

Back to the present Enki hadn't eaten in about a day, he had the beginning pangs of hunger, but he had felt them so long and so often now going five days or more without eating wasn't an issue for him! He began to think about all the times he spent with his grandfather and all the lessons he had taught him when he was younger. His grandfather was a cultivator, when someone turns fourteen, they can awaken their innate ability to cultivate. Depending on their level would determine how fast and how high one's cultivation could progress. Enaka, Enki's grandfather was a Golden Prism cultivator, one of the highest authorities in the country. He wasn't the strongest by far but everyone, even the King, had to show some respect for him.

Cultivation is broken into several realms and sub-realms. There are ten primary realms ranging from: Trainee, Squire, Warrior, Knight, Foundation, Sublimation, Prism, Golden Prism, Ascension, Palladium Paladin. Each level has ten sub-levels that much be completed before advancing into the next. Enaka, being a Golden Prism warrior showed his ability in itself, however, he had never acted superior or put on airs around Enki.

Enki didn't have any level of cultivation yet as his talent was still dormant, he could only be considered a mortal. Even a first realm Trainee could easily beat ten to fifteen mortals if that shows you the importance of cultivation. It would only get more insane after each realm; a second realm Trainee could defeat ten to fifteen first realm Trainees and probably a hundred or more mortals. There was no person that was stupid enough to attack someone with cultivation if they themself had none.

The hours slowly pass as Enki feels his eyes become heavy and start to flutter open and shut, more often shut than open he is unable to stay awake and drifts off to sleep a deep and dream filled sleep.
