Despite the three of us not discussing much of the plan for the Screamers of the Void yet, Micca had already conveyed the key traits that these Calamities of the Void possessed.
"All mechs are outside of the explosion radius!!"
One, they were highly sensitive to the existence of the soul. As it would be impossible for Micca and Shujang to live through a limited amount of oxygen within the confined space, I told Shujang to create a hole within the barrier and let Micca sucks enough air occasionally into the barrier.
Everytime we did that, the nearby Screamers would react, but would never pursue our lingering stench beyond just darting a glance left and right.
"The fuse has been lit!"
All kinds of natural phenomena won't distract them. Even if there were a living tribunal cyclone right above them, they wouldn't care a glance at them.
They would only pursue the soul, and not even the thickest wall could hide us. This was why isolating the space of our existence itself was our action of choice.
The Calamities of the Void decided to embark their tendrils in our world, they must have followed the logic of space and time to a certain extent.
"Isolated spatial barrier deployed!"
Micca told me that the trees within this forest could take an atomic bomb or two before fully weeded out.
So we decided to accommodate the visit of a young sun coming into this land.
"Muahaha!! We have become death, the destroyer of the world!!"
Shrill screams of combusting molecules could be silently felt by my nonexistent eardrums, mercilessly beating upon our lungs. From three-hundred sixty degrees on the left to three-hundred sixty degrees on the right—the bright sight of heaven shone us.
Gather brother, gather sister! Soothe your blister by the fire! Our bones may ache and groan, but our spirits never tire!
What's behind us mustn't blind us to divineness that transpires!!
"Father, the explosion we set is merely a mountainous amount of gunpowder, why did you quote the one for an atomic bomb?"
"Shuush, let your father have his moment."
"Next time, I'll teach you two how to do Spatial Magic." Shujang did her best maintaining her ever smiling face, even though the pain of maintaining the isolated space from the explosion was chucking a big apple down her throat. "That will be the healthiest choice for my mental health."
More like a sign that you want to slack at your job.
After the explosive was cast brilliantly, Shujang removed her spatial barrier and we examined our surroundings.
Micca's claim for the durability of the trees within this forest was truly credible. Despite the disastrous force and shockwave that could bulldoze a hundred of apartments, most of the trees stayed rooted and there were only visible charred wounds outside their already titanic body.
Speaking of titanic, the Screamers of the Void were nowhere to be seen within this vicinity. I used the command device to send an electromagnetic signal to every mech, telling them to come back.
Amongst the eleven, two of them were heavily damaged, and one of them was out of service as the bullet from the Screamer managed to puncture through the core. I did a repair on the two damaged mechs, and began to gather the data acquired from the rest of the mech as soon as they arrived.
Even after their return, there were nary a single Screamers could be found.
Did we just find their weaknesses?
"Micca, where did you get the information about these Calamities?"
"There are rumors, guild's notice, and because I'm able to read the local language in some regions, I got an illegal access to any libraries and yanked their books away from the shelves," Micca said with a proud smile.
"How old are you again? In human standard."
"Huh." Micca tried to count with her claws. "I'm ten years old, I think."
A multilingual at ten years old…
"Then, was there any information about the weakness of the Screamers?"
"None. It was one of the most threatening Calamities of the Void. Not because of their destructiveness, but because of their perseverance as not even the best army filled with court spellcasters could best a swarm of them for more than an hour.
"Not to mention, if the Screamers of the Void managed to completely exhaust any sentient being, they will claim the land into a permanent place where the Void Rift stays. Plants and trees are exempted from this for some reason."
So, did we just accidentally find out the Achilles' heel for such a harrowing disaster?
No, this is a world of magic. Micca had acquired knowledge about the Calamities through various means of information gathering, some of which could even be considered illegal. It was astonishing considering that she was previously just a centaur rabbit before we met.
If the information on predicting the arrival of the Calamities is easily accessible, even to beings as common as a rabbit centaur, then it suggests that a larger organization is actively working to raise awareness and vigilance among citizens, especially those with scholarly knowledge.
This concerted effort aims to ensure that individuals are well-informed and prepared for potential calamitous events. By making this information widely available, the organization seeks to empower individuals and promote a collective sense of responsibility in safeguarding against these destructive occurrences.
Locking vital information, such as the weaknesses of the Calamities, would be highly imprudent. This is especially true when considering a weakness that can be easily exploited, such as exposure to light or direct contact with explosions.
Something is amidst here.
Just before I could confirm my suspicion, that very wariness was proven to be true the moment I saw a rifle muzzle peeked from the charred side of the nearby tree. I immediately sent my finding to both Micca and Shujang, and we immediately decided to choose the most reasonable option.
""RUN!!""
I was very informed about the Vietnam confrontation that the US had gone through back in history, and I don't want to relive that experience vividly!!
I got Micca to carry me away while Shujang cast a healing spell to overclock our stamina and deter any sense of fatigue as I performed my Blooming right between my daughter's arms, trying to cast anything useful within this jungle of uneven terrain and brimming brambles.
If we could accommodate the terrain to use a motorbike, we might actually be able to get out of this forest before the cracking.
Actually, I just asked Micca about this. Not even a harley davidson at max speed could get us away from the forest with all of the cracking signs happening.
Mechs upon mechs were sacrificed to protect us from showering by the volley of unstoppable eldritch rounds. After we managed to get away from the precariously unknown zone of death, we were once again welcomed by the sight of walking titans aiming their unruly rifles at us.
