Chapter 9 - THE RUNAWAY NPC: PART 6

"What do you think you're doing?" Auron scoffed, his confidence evident. "You think you can win against the two of us? Even with that set of armor, your stats won't be enough to fight me, a dagger user and a tank."

His comrade, the tank player, held a massive silver shield, its imposing presence suggesting impenetrable defense. Auron had no doubt that Eidos's power wouldn't penetrate such a formidable shield. They exchanged knowing glances, assured of their victory.

Eidos, however, remained unfazed, his cold eyes fixed upon them.

"Berserk," he uttered calmly.

Auron's eyes widened in disbelief at the word Eidos had spoken. "Are you mad? If you do that, you will lose yourself, and you will attack and kill everything in your path!"

Desperation laced his voice as he attempted to reason with Eidos. But Eidos's eyes remained unyielding, a chilling smile curling on his lips.

"So?" Eidos retorted, his voice laced with defiance. A word coming from someone who has nothing to lose. He continued to stare at them with those cold, unflinching eyes as he uttered a single word, filled with ominous promise:

"Disappear."

And with that, [Berserk was activated.]

The final set skill manifested itself, and Eidos felt an overwhelming surge of power enveloping him. It was as if every aspect of his being had been amplified, a boon to his strength, speed, and endurance. In this moment, he was a force of nature, an unstoppable juggernaut. But this newfound might came at a perilous cost.

Eidos had willingly thrust himself into a frenzied, berserk state, a condition that would persist for three minutes. It was a window of unmatched might, but it came at the price of his sanity. In this state, he would be driven by an uncontrollable bloodlust, attacking and killing anything in his path, friend or foe.

Auron and his comrade exchanged horrified glances, realizing the gravity of the situation. They had pushed Eidos to the brink, and now they would face the consequences of unleashing this berserk beast upon the world.

As Eidos's body was enveloped in a swirling red aura, the very air around him seemed to pulse with malevolent energy. He opened his mouth, and an eerie smoke flowed out of it, obscuring his features. He looked more like a monstrous apparition than a human being.

The tank player, recognizing the imminent danger, swiftly moved in front of Auron, his massive silver shield raised as a bulwark against the incoming storm.

"Boss, are you sure about this?" he voiced his concern, the worry evident in his tone. "You do know if we get killed here, we won't be able to go back."

Auron, however, remained resolute. He knew there was no turning back now, that they were locked in a battle against an opponent who had tapped into the abyss of his own power.

With a serious expression, Auron began to chant and cast a series of buffs. His actions were swift and precise, each incantation invoking a newfound surge of strength.

"[Agility]," he intoned, feeling a noticeable boost in his speed.

"[Greater Strength]," he continued, feeling his muscles surge with power.

"[Critical Up]," he recited, knowing that his strikes would now be deadlier.

"[Dodge Up]," he concluded, enhancing his ability to evade attacks.

Auron had prepared himself for this battle, and with each buff, he became more formidable. But he couldn't shake the gnawing feeling of dread that lingered in the pit of his stomach. Eidos, in his berserk state, was a wild card.

Eidos twitched, and Auron and the tank recognized it as the signal they had been dreading.

Auron swiftly positioned himself defensively, raising his senses to their peak. He could feel the tension in the air, the ominous aura that emanated from Eidos as he prepared to unleash his berserk fury.

"Here it comes—" Auron began to mutter, but before he could even finish his sentence, Eidos moved with astonishing speed. In an instant, he seemed to blur and then disappeared from their line of sight.

Auron's eyes widened in shock as he struggled to track Eidos's movements. The berserk NPC had become a veritable phantom, his movements too swift for the eye to follow. Panic began to creep into Auron's mind as he realized the gravity of the situation. Eidos was no longer a mere opponent; he was a force of nature, a whirlwind of destruction that defied comprehension.

The tank, too, found himself on edge, his massive shield held before him as he scanned the area for any sign of their berserked foe. The forest seemed to close in around them, the shadows growing darker, and the air itself heavy with foreboding.

The tank's heart pounded in his chest as he frantically scanned the forest, his eyes darting left and right. He knew that Eidos was out there somewhere lurking in the shadows.

"Behind you!" Auron shouted, a desperate warning born from pure instinct. He hadn't heard a sound, but he felt it—the looming presence of the death-bringer, Eidos, standing from behind.

In a split second, the tank tried to muster his defenses. He began to chant the incantation for a protective skill, his voice trembling with urgency.

"Shield of—"

But before he could complete the incantation, something inexplicable happened. He felt a strange sensation, as if his own body were moving without his command. His gaze shifted downward, and horror washed over him as he saw his own body turning around, facing him in a grotesque and unnatural twist.

In that horrifying moment of realization, he understood the cruel truth: his head had been severed from his body. He watched in shock as a version of his own headless body stood before him, a gruesome testament to the merciless power of Eidos in his berserk state.

Auron, who had once been the sadistic tormentor, now found himself frozen in place, forced to bear witness to the gruesome demise of his teammates.

"A-AHHH!"

His scream pierced the air, a desperate and guttural cry that carried the weight of his powerlessness. But despite his terror, the sadistic and evil nature that had defined him earlier was nowhere to be found. Fear had stripped away the veneer of cruelty, revealing the raw vulnerability beneath.

As the tank's headless body slumped to the forest floor, Auron's legs quivered beneath him. He took a step back, then another, until he had turned around and started running, his movements fueled by pure instinct and terror. The forest swallowed him whole as he fled like a coward, leaving behind the horrifying scene of death and despair.

In that moment, Auron had become the hunted, a victim of his own actions and the relentless wrath of Eidos. The tables had turned, and now he knew the true meaning of fear.
