Chapter 31 - Rank-2 Quest

(Jake's PoV)

There are many changes in my status screen by reaching level 50 but those changes are not that much.

Though the skills increased in their grades, there was not much difference in their descriptions from previous descriptions. It said the same. Maybe the wording changed a little bit but nothing much.

I felt the difference when they changed to D grade but I can't quantify that. I am not at that stage yet.

Yes, when someone has better control over their strength, they can easily understand things like how much energy they were spending while using their skills or how much damage they took even from an enemy attack without the help of the system.

So at this point, I can't tell what improvements I got from improving the grades of the skills but I can still feel that they are better when compared to before.

Moreover, who am I to complain at this point about those improvements?

I am getting those skills easily. The chances of a monster kill dropping a skill book or scroll is very low for anyone but compared to others it is very high for me, though what I get is not in a conventional way.

Yeah, when one observes my hunt, though I killed a lot, there was not a single skill book or scroll that I could sell for money. The skills that are dropped can only be used by me. There are no actual drops, but I do get those skills automatically.

Though I may be losing money from not getting those skill books, I can't actually complain about that. There was a good reason for that and that is, I am actually saving a lot of money in this process.

A low-grade skill can be increased by using upgrade stones but with this blessing, I am saving on those things. Those upgrade stones are something I can't buy at this point. So even if I sell those skill books, the amount I get is not equal to what I need to buy an upgrade stone.

A single upgrade stone would not be useful as the grade of the skill increases. I need to buy a lot of those stones.

I mean, I can't just have a single skill. At least three to five are required by everyone.

One is for attack, one for defence, one for movement and one for support. If such a way is taken, it's already four skills. Also, no idiot would just have a single attack skill. If the enemy is immune to their skill, then they would lose to their enemy.

Sure there are defence and movement skills to protect oneself or to run away from a losing battle but that may not always work. So many would have diverse ways to attack the enemies.

It is always best to get rid of enemies as soon as possible rather than giving them chances to get rid of you.

So, without the Blessing of Artemis, I would have been forced to buy skills or in preparation to buy skills. Even if there are some skill book drops, they would be less likely low-grade.

Buying skills would cost a lot and to upgrade them, it may take an entire life before that can be made possible. I would be stuck at lower levels for a long time if I had to take the path everyone has to take.

So, I am in luck that I am getting such benefits.

The only issue was with their descriptions. From what I know, skills would have clear descriptions of their strength and weaknesses, not some vague descriptions but as I said, I can't complain about that.

Beggars can't be choosers.

---

Enough of that. There is nothing to it but there is something that I can do and that is to reach Rank-2 and to do so, I need to complete the quest issued to me by the system.

This is what I got from the system once I reached level 50.

--

[Detected that the player has reached level 50.]

[Issuing Rank-2 quest...]

[Rank-2 Quest: Hunt 10 Earth Armadillos and 10 Fire Lizards, whose levels are no less than level 45. There is no restriction on the max level. The higher the monsters are, the better the rewards will be.]

--

Looking at the quest I felt weird. The quest is quite similar to the Rank-1 quest. Back then the quest required me to hunt 10 Earth Bears and 10 Fire Tigers that are at least at level 18. Now it was 10 Earth Armadillos and 10 Fire Lizards which have crossed level 45.

Sure the minimum level of monsters changed, but that was because the rank-up quest is for Rank-2.

The only thing that actually changed was the races of beasts that I had to hunt. Even the elemental affinity remained the same.

Is that because of my skills?

Would having certain skills influence the rank-up quest?

If so, is having one enough or more needed?

There was never mention of such a thing in all the books that we were supposed to read. Is it a secret or does no one know about this?

It has been 95 years. So I am sure that someone should have already discovered such a thing. So what I think was that it was a secret or this anomaly was unique to me.

Whether it was a secret or a unique anomaly, I can't spill this to anyone. Once it was known to others, it would cause a ruckus. I am still weak and can't contend against the powerful people who would come to know the details behind this.

Once I attract their attention, then that would be game over for me. I am neither powerful nor have a powerful background to support me. Even if something happens to me, no one would care about me.

So no matter what, I can't reveal things such as this, not before I am strong enough to face the challenges that would come with revealing things like that.

Anyway, it matters not for now. Tonight I would sleep and tomorrow, it's time to hunt those beasts no matter what.
