Chereads / Hunter of Artemis / Chapter 2 - Awakening

Chapter 2 - Awakening

Jake was blissfully sleeping in the class. He was having the greatest time in his dream. He was surrounded by beautiful ladies in his dream world. There are elf, human, and angel ladies showering him with love. All of a sudden his world cracked and a demon entered. She hammered his world into thousands of pieces.

"Aww," cried Jake, "Why did you hit me?"

The girl next to him, Thea, rolled her eyes and spoke in a cold tone as if she knew what was happening in his mind, "You are drooling."

Jake quickly wiped his mouth and started to pay attention to the homeroom teacher.

The teacher explained how the process would work and pointed out that everyone should avoid death and if the chance appears help each other as the fate of humankind depends on them. Even losing one would cause unforeseen problems in the future.

While the teacher was passing time with the students telling them again and again the basics of the game, a knock was heard. She turned around to see a middle-aged man standing outside and signaling her.

"Students it looks like it is our turn for the test. Follow Mr.Hath in an orderly fashion and he would lead you to the hall."

Following their teacher's instructions the students formed a line and followed Mr.Hath.

The alliance follows a small procedure in supporting the awakened. From the dimensional stores the previous governments of the world checked, there is an item known as Trial Device. This device can be useful to check the first innate skill of the person when they first entered the game.

It is the only detail the alliance government could get about the individual. Depending on their awakened skill class level, the alliance provides them with benefits. Since a higher level of skill can make the journey of the awakened easier than those whose talent is not.

For example, if an S-class skill awakened takes two days to reach level 10, an A-class takes 5, and a B-class takes 10 days to achieve the same result. Even if this is an example of solo leveling, group leveling causes the XP to be distributed among members. So even if F-class awakened tries to level up using group, it would take a lot of time.

Mr. Hath turned to the students and spoke, "There are four devices, so four students can go for the test at a time. Don't push, everyone gets their chance."

With students of Jake's class started to check their status. Whenever one went to the Trial Device, some came out happy; some were cheerful while some felt that they had fallen from the sky.

Most candidates would get C-F Class skills. Every year the percentile in this region would be around 75 to 80 percent of the population. 10 to 15 percent comprise of those of B-Class and 8 to 9 would be the ones who awaken A-Class skill.

The remaining belongs to the ones who have S-Class skills.

Though in the beginning there were people who couldn't awaken, gradually the percentage decreased. In fact, for the past twenty years, there has been no such case. Every student who went to the game awakened at least one F-Class skill.

After waiting for an hour, it was Jake's turn. Along with him came Thea, so she would go to test herself alongside him.

Jake took a seat and then the instructor placed the helmet on him. The moment it was activated, everything went dark for Jake.

[Welcome to the Survival World], a mechanical voice greeted him, [Please create your avatar.]

[The steps are as follows.]

[First, select a race.]

[Second, your body is scanned and a fitting avatar is created automatically.]

[Third, you can customize your avatar with a few modifications. You can alter your avatar within a set parameter. Each race would have its own set of parameters which are explained later after step two is completed.]

[Fourth, rolling for a random innate skill and unique skill. Everyone should note here is that you would get an innate skill for definite but one in a million probability of getting a unique skill.]

[The fifth and final step would be naming the avatar. After this you would be free to play as much as you could.]

Survival World has many races that are playable and each has its own storyline. Most played races are human, elf, dwarf, orc, and demon.

Though Angels and Undead are major factions, they have a lot of restrictions.

Angels can only initiate attacks against factions considered evil like demons and undead. They don't have many quests in faction lands where they have better safety. Except for initial levels, all XP can only be earned by entering evil faction lands, where the fatality is high.

Undead on the other is an outcast by all factions. Even demons hate them. The moment they were seen they were attacked by all parties, including parties that are considered neutral. Moreover, they don't have lands of their own.

So the most preferred to play the four as they have reliable advantages over others but there are few who prefer other races as they have their own advantages that these four don't have.

If you consider angels and humans, angels can fly from level 0 while humans have to depend on flying mounts which aren't easy to handle even at high levels. Though the speed and altitude of flight are low at lower levels, it is still useful for surprise attacks or to flee without much loss.

[Please select your race.]

'What should I select?'

'Based on our previous discussion, I should select human as she advised me.'

'I prefer Elf but whatever, I can't discard her advice which never felt like advice.'

"Select Human race".

[Selected race is Human.]

[User can customize to his preference within the limit provided below.]

[You can freely alter the hair length, density, and color.]

[You can alter your body with a maximum deviation of 5%]

Jake checked the limits and he didn't care about them much. A max of 5% deviation amounts to nothing. From what he heard before, most player avatars had no limit for hair alterations.

Thinking that he checked his avatar and he was stunned.

His avatar can be described in words as perfect. He never thought his avatar could look like that, but then he remembered when his race changed. He is not just a human but a High Human which stands above the human race, though he isn't sure how much difference both have.

He adjusted his hair color to snow white, high density, and medium length. He chose this color so that he would surely stand out. His enemies may identify him easily but he wanted them to or else how could he gain benefits easily. Moreover, this will give him the best identity.

He likes his hair very much so he chose a high density of head hair and medium length so that it won't be a problem and at the same time could be styled as he likes.

The only alteration he made to his body was his eye color, which he changed to purple. He did this with the same purpose as his hair.

"That's all with the alternations with my hair and body."
