Chapter 6 - Chapter 06: Desperate Move

I opened the door and walked outside. As if a normal guest with normal intentions, I walked elegantly in my black night dress.

My heart beating in my chest, I continued to walk steadily until I reached outside. The night was quiet and young. Only guards passed from here and there.

"I must reach her," I told myself as I was looking for the right time to leave the hotel. My eyes secretly focused on the guard who needed to use a restroom nearby.

My chance.

I began to walk towards one of the gates that led outside, silently praying that I would escape just fine. I reached the gate, and I started running, feeling my night dress flowing like a ghostly train.

I didn't even know if I would reach the hospital. I knew it was far, but I still had to try.

"Ma'am!" I looked behind me. One of the guards saw me. I increased the speed like I was in a marathon, the guard being my fellow athlete.

Time went by, the night was dark. He was getting nearer every time I looked back. My heart ached. My chest kept panting.

Looking behind me again, I stumbled and fell. My eyes widened, I knew my attempt was over. The guard was near. Suddenly a car stopped, revealing an old man seemingly in his fifties,

"Miss, are you okay?"

I didn't look back. I didn't care who it was. I got up from the ground and ran towards the car. The guard was almost near. I quickly opened the car and the moment I got inside, he was already there, fighting so I didn't close the door.

"Go!" I shouted to the driver.

The old man did as I said. I let out a sigh, a breath I didn't know I was holding. My hair was already soaking from the sweat.

"Are you okay, Miss? What kind of trouble are you in?" The old man asked. His face was covered with concern like it was his daughter that got into trouble. I could see all that from the front mirror of his car.

"Long story. But all I can tell you right now is I want to see my mother," I told him, my breath was beginning to become normal. He nodded.

"It's hard to find someone capable of helping a stranger. Thank you, sir,"

"Who would want to harm an old man who only owns a taxi and a one-bedroom house?" I laughed at his joke.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

"How about I take you to see your mother first?"

I couldn't thank him enough. We reached the hospital and that is where our journey together ended.

"Thank you, Sir. May our dear God bless you," My hands were still trembling. He smiled and turned around his car, then left.

I just couldn't believe someone appeared out of the blue and saved me. I had seen devils trying to take me down the whole day.

I was now looking at the hospital. My nightdress was clinging to me like my second skin. A stark contrast to the sterile hospital surroundings.

I stepped towards the entrance and opened the door. The reception had a nurse. We knew each other by physical appearance but I never bothered to know her name.

I ran towards her and pleaded, "I need to see my mother, please. It's an emergency!"

The receptionist was taken aback by my appearance. My cold hands held hers, and my eyes almost began to form tears, "Please, it can't wait. Take me to her now!"

"I'm sorry, but I can't," She said as she pulled her hand from mine and looked at her computer. Her face displayed a sense of fear.

"Please," I begged, "If I don't see her now, I might never see her again," my voice was low and begging. I was at the mercy of this receptionist.

"Even if I wanted to, I wouldn't be able to help you. Your mother is in a delicate condition. People can't visit her at the moment."

"What? What do you mean? Did the surgery not go well?" I panicked. This meant If I failed to see her this time, I might not get a chance to do so.

"Can't I just see her from outside the door?" My heart couldn't believe that I'd never see her again.

"Miss, you are making it harder-"

"Don't you have a mother? How would you feel if you were told she was in a delicate condition and you were to never see her again?" My eyes were already burning from tears, and the wound in my heart was becoming worse.

I knelt, pressing my hands together as I looked at her in the eye," Please, have mercy on me?"

Before she could say anything else, the door opened. Two guards entered, "Miss, please stop making a fuss before further steps are taken"

Their faces were blank, they showed no signs of emotions. Still kneeling, I looked at them straight in the eyes, "Weren't you all born from your mothers?"

"Miss,"

"What is so wrong with wanting to see my sick mother?" My voice got louder. Why was no one on my side? The door opened and more guards came in.

Stumbling at first, I managed to get up. As they took steps towards me, I took more steps back. I was the lioness and In front of me were poachers, ready to catch me.

I almost screamed when someone held my arms from behind. Looking at who it was, I was relieved, "Dr. Marshal?!"

He raised his hand, stopping them from stepping towards me, "My dear. I know this is hard for you. But I'm sad to say that your mother is not yet to be seen. Her condition is delicate and we can't afford just any human to get near her,"

Even him?

I pulled away from his hands. Dr. Marshal today is taking their side, not mine. I looked around, other nurses had gathered too. There was only one way to find out. And even if it's crazy, I was going to do it.

" Mother?! " I shouted. I ran towards the hospital rooms, and behind me followed a group of poachers.

"Mother, your daughter is here!" I kept looking for her through the doors.

The hospital was now a mess. I kept shouting and looking through all the doors that I saw until one door was suddenly covered by the tall, tan-skinned man.

Marcus.

He caught me. My weak body's efforts were nothing compared to his thick muscular body that seemed to hit the gym at least four times a week.

"Now," I heard him struggling to say that and in a second, I felt like a syringe was inserted on my arm. My eyes felt weak. The next time I woke up, I was inside my hotel room again.
