Chapter 25 - Lilac's Training

Meyeri said, "Okay, firstly, it's easier to give an example rather than explain it."

She closes her eyes and makes a praying gesture with both of her hands. After that, she chanted, "By the name of the God of Water, Poseidon, attract water."

Then she put her feet above the river, standing on it. The boy got curious and put his head underwater to see what was happening. The water below her feet was getting attracted to her sole, making an upward current 2 meters deep straight to her sole and creating a flow upward. Making her able to stand above the river. Then the boy lifted his head.

"You got it?" Meyeri said.

The boy nods his head.

"Making the right power thrust will be the key to this. The first thing you need to aim for is to float while standing." Meyeri said.

Then the boy steps forward. The boy then makes a praying gesture and channels his power. For some reason, Meyeri feels uneasy.

"I'm getting a bad omen about this."

He walks into the river, and when he just gets in, he gets shot upward. Meyeri quickly flicks her right hand and flies, catching the boy midair. The poor boy was shocked.

"That was too close. You need to be careful. If you channel your lumine too much, you will get shot upward."

Then Meyeri put the young lilac back on the land.

"You want to try again, kid?"

Wedgewood inhales more air and nods, showing affirmation to his adoptive mother. He then makes a praying gesture again and tries to walk on the river. But rather then standing above it, he got sucked in. Thankfully, the boy could breathe underwater due to Poseidon's blessing.

Meyeri shouts from the land, "You need to channel more of your energy to actually be able to float. Too little energy, and you'll get inside the river."

The boy then tries to channel more energy. He gets above the river diagonally, but rather than floating with his feet standing, he got pushed down to the river since he was tilted. He found the difference between the force that pushed down outside in the air and in the water made it difficult to balance his body.

"Okay, I trust you to take care of yourself for a bit. I'll get back to town since I have business to be done."

The boy nods. He is confident that he can do it. He repeatedly tried for many days, but seems to fail in the same manner over and over again. He was getting frustrated.

"Hi, young lilac, How are you doing?"

It was the old man Kairos walking up towards Wedgewood.

"You seem stressed out. I bring you lunch rather than Meyeri since she is running an errand from the Elven Kingdom. Let's have a break."

The boy looked at him and nodded. He sits next to Kairos waiting for Kairos to open the food. It feels like a picnic lunch.

"I saw you getting tossed everywhere on the river. What are you trying to do?"

The boy made a hand sign saying, "He wants to stand on the river."

"Then you better stand up straight." Kairos said while patting the boy's head.

The boy shakes his head. Kairos smiled and said,.

"Why don't we take a little stroll around the town? Too serious, and you're losing your creativity."

The boy shakes his head again.

"I see. You want to keep training, then. Why don't you pick up this wooden sword I had with me and train your swordsmanship with me?"

The boy shakes his head.

"Let's have a quick spar. If you can hit me with that wooden sword, I'll treat you to the most delicious elven pastry in the Elven Kingdom. You could also use spells if you want."

The boy then got excited and started to buy Kairos ideas. He then picked up the wooden sword. Both of them then have a quick spar, of course, with Kairos holding his power against the boy. The first thing the boy did was to make a simple movement and make a downward strike.

"Oh"

Kairos was thinking that the boy would depend on magic, and because of that, his response was a bit slow. He needs to make maneuvers that he normally won't do. He dodged to the right, using his left leg as a pivot, really quickly.

The boy anticipated Kairos's movement and pointed his index finger and little finger to the right while holding the wooden sword. Sparks are coming from both of his fingers.

"Tonitrus Shots"

Not used like what it was before, the skills come out with better concentration, shooting a thunder in a straight line. The boy has just realized the effect of his training, but since the trajectory is quite simple, Kairos blocks the magic with ease with his wooden sword.

"You need something better than that."

The boy then comes up with a neat idea and takes a praying stance. He then jumped into the water from the river. He reverses the spell that was taught by Meyeri.

"Reject Water"

He then shoots water in the shape of a sphere from underwater. Kairos dodged all of them, but he noticed something weird.

"Why does the shot come has a different speed?"

The boy varies the speed of the water sphere he shoots from fast to slow. Then he used the attract water spell to shoot himself from under the river, launching himself. Kairos shocked and reflectively caught the boy and got cleanly hit by the wooden sword on his chest, which was covered by plate armor.

"That was dangerous, boy."

Both of them then laugh together.

"You're fine now? I see you have improved as a wizard. Don't be too hard on yourself."

The boy nods. Kairos then went back to the Elven Kingdom, leaving the young boy. From the sparring he had with Kairos, he realized that he was lacking. Meyeri was assigning him to learn this to improve his control and containment.

He then tried to do a retrospect with a calm mind. Since he was trying to make a line, he didn't actually contain the line causing it to be easily reshaped. Even though the river was calm, a bit of force could cause the lumine's line below his feet to be reshaped. It's even harder the deeper it goes since the tip of the line is very far from the core of his lumine, the brain.

"It seems you finally using your head."

It was Zeus.

"I was watching you the entire time Meyeri was gone, even in the spar. It seems like you have finally progressed now."

"Why are you just watching?"

"Mey and I decided not to help you until you got the essence of what you were doing. We trusted that you would come up with the right conclusion. Helping you at the start will apparently remove your potential to grow as a wizard."

The boy nods since it makes sense to him.

"Now, let's try different exercises. Water walking was not supposed to be learned that quickly. It was just a test for you to actually understand that you're still far from good."

"What? Are you serious?"

"Yes, now you know about control and containment. Let's do an easier thing to achieve first."
