Charlotte's POV
This is rather insane, all of a sudden, an Alpha's ancestry staff is missing? I looked at Grace, who was still busy scattering the whole kitchen in the name of searching for a staff.
"Who asked you to search for it in the kitchen?" I inquired with a squinted eyebrow.
"The grand Luna said that everyone should search for it everywhere in the house, as they don't want the news to get outside this mansion that the ancestry staff is missing." She replied and went back to scattering the kitchen.
"It's not as if Jasper walks around with the staff in his hands. He should check the CCTV footage and know if anyone entered this house in disgust and took it because he can't say that he's expecting the thief to hide it inside the house." I said, but didn't get any reply from her.
I know how important the ancestry staff is to any pack and what it means to lose it. If an enemy pack hears that he lost his ancestry staff or, let me put it this way, that it was stolen, they will do everything in their might to be the one to find it. And any Alpha that finds it will automatically make him bow to them, and by doing so, he has agreed to be the other's slave.
We werewolves have many myths and legends, but the myth of the ancestry staff, which is only a piece of wood with a wolf head carved on it;has been strongly believed over the years. Which was believed to have been transferred from one Alpha to the other of the same pack. It is a sign of authority.
The wood is said to be given by the moon goddess herself directly to the first Alpha that has ever lived. He then cut the stick into nine and shared it to his nine sons. They continue to cut the stick and share with their kids, who do the same as their population increases and they expand.
It's a sign of authority and power, at a point according to the myths it was said that some brothers engaged in a bloody fight for the ancestry staff and anyone who wins the battle his brother becomes his slave.
This is why the news that Jasper is searching for the staff isn't likely to be heard by any Pack member because it will not only raise eyebrows, but it will also question the authority of the Alpha.
"Keep searching for it!" The grand Luna's voice brought me out from my train of thoughts.
"What are you doing standing like a statue? You either go inside your room and sleep or help out here." I think I chose the first option because I really want to sleep.
I began to walk towards my room. And I saw Anna walking towards me with disdain written all over her face. " So you're going to sleep?" She asked in disbelief.
"Yes, why do you ask?" I inquired as I stood facing her.
"Aren't you ashamed of yourself? We all are damn worried about the stolen stuff and all you can do is to go inside your room and sleep?" she asked as though she didn't hear my reply the other time.
"Isn't it crystal clear that I ain't, do you just want to waste my time with your words?" I inquired as I tried walking into my room, but she held my wrist, thereby making me halt in my step.
"Wait, tell the truth, did you steal the Alpha's staff?" She asked with a serious face while staring at me.
"Grandluna, I suggest that Charlotte's room should be searched, after all, she's the only guest we know who isn't happy with our Alpha." She shouted and everyone stopped what they were already doing and turned to us.
"Your words make a lot of sense, perhaps she wants to hand over the authority of our pack to her father." The Grand Luna said as she walked towards me as her heels clicked against the marbled floor.
"To prove my doubt, she's the only one who's not bothered about this whole thing, as though she already knows that the staff isn't here to begin with. Come on, you've been caught already so spill it, where's the Alpha's staff?'' I resisted the urge to slap her hard on her face.
"What is the meaning of this? Must I help you find the staff? Leave me the fuck alone!" I yelled as I yanked my hands off hers.
"You don't have any right to point accusing fingers at me. So don't you dare!" I warned while pointing at Anna, maintaining eye contact with her.
"But I do have the right.'' The grandluna said as she closed the distance between us and snapped her fingers, and three guards walked up to her and bowed their heads.
"Search her room thoroughly." She ordered, and they rushed into my room immediately at her command.
"Don't let me keep reminding you of your place in this pack. You're just like the guards. I just make you feel a little better." She spat out to my face and walked out.
"What is going on here?" Jasper asked as he walked down the stairs, followed by his beta and Fred.
"Alpha, all thanks to me, we're able to quickly figure out the thief." Anna said as she walked towards him and wrapped her hands around his waist.
"And who is that, if I may ask?' He raised an eyebrow as he asked.
"It's none other than Charlotte." The Satisfaction in her tone when she said that can't be missed at all.
"Anna, mind your language!" I yelled, for the first time in my life I felt so embarrassed and humiliated that for some reason I'm short of words to defend myself because I feel it isn't necessary.
"What do you mean by that?" he asked, and without waiting for her response, he walked towards my room.
"Stop!" He ordered the guardsmen, who stopped immediately.
"Grace! Ask some maids to arrange this room. This should be the first and last time you walk into her room as though she's a criminal!" His words made me feel warmth for the very first time.
'Anna, I am the Alpha and I alone have the right to condemn anybody and pass judgment. You are not entitled to do that to any of my people, especially not Charlotte.'
