Chapter 3 - Corner of the cafe

Sophie sat at her usual spot in the corner of the café, her eyes glued to the entrance as she anxiously awaited Nick's arrival. They had been dating for a few months now, and every time they met, it felt like their love was growing stronger. But today was different.

Nick finally walked through the café doors, his smile lighting up the room. He made his way towards Sophie, his steps quick with excitement. As he approached, she noticed something different about him. He was carrying a small, square box in his hands, beautifully wrapped in shiny silver paper.

Curiosity overwhelmed Sophie as Nick took his seat across from her. She eagerly reached out for the box, her fingers dancing with anticipation. "What's this?" she asked, a sparkle of excitement in her eyes.

Nick chuckled softly, his deep voice dripping with mystery. "Open it and find out," he replied, his smile widening.

Carefully, Sophie untied the bow and peeled off the silver paper, revealing a delicate locket nestled inside. It was silver, with intricate designs carved into its surface. Sophie's heart skipped a beat as she realized that it was a locket with their initials engraved on it.

Nick took the locket from Sophie, his hands brushing against hers. With a swift motion, he opened the locket to reveal two pictures. One was of Sophie and Nick, their smiling faces frozen in time. The other picture was of an older couple, seemingly taken decades ago.

Sophie's eyes widened in surprise. "Who are they?" she asked, her voice filled with wonder.

"They are us, Sophie," Nick whispered, his gaze locked with hers. "They are our future selves, destined to be together."

Sophie's mind spun with confusion and excitement. How could this be possible? How had Nick managed to create a locket that showed their future?

Nick leaned forward, his voice barely a whisper. "Sophie, I have a secret to share with you. I'm not from this time. I come from the future, where we are happily married, surrounded by our children and grandchildren."

Sophie's heart raced as she absorbed Nick's words. It was hard to believe, but there was a sincerity in his eyes that she couldn't ignore.

With each passing day, Sophie and Nick's love deepened, their connection growing stronger. They embarked on adventures, both real and imagined, exploring the world and building a life together. Through it all, the locket remained a symbol of their love and their extraordinary journey.

As the years went by, Sophie couldn't help but wonder about the locket's power. Was their future truly written in those pictures? What adventures awaited them? Would they really end up like the older couple in the locket?

And then, one day, as Sophie and Nick sat on the porch of their cozy little cottage, watching the sunset paint the sky with hues of gold and pink, Sophie realized that their future was not something to be feared or simply accepted. It was something to be created, every single day.

Their love had brought them this far, and it would carry them through the years to come. The locket had served its purpose, reminding them of their incredible journey and the dreams they had shared.

With a smile on her face and love in her heart, Sophie turned to Nick and said, "Let's make our future even more beautiful than the pictures in the locket. Let's create a love story that will leave the world wondering."

And as they held hands, their fingers intertwined, they knew that their love would forever be an enigma, a story that would captivate hearts and minds for generations to come.

The end.
