VIVIAN'S POV
The response from the police left me in a state of perplexity. "If that is what you call, fine," they replied nonchalantly. I glanced at both of them, their presence unwavering, resembling pillars of authority.
My mind raced with questions. What could be their ulterior motive? Why did they wish to meet the agent? I felt exhaustion creeping in, their persistent demands weighing me down.
Summoning the courage to comply, I inquired, "Okay, even if I agree to this, how can I freshen up? I can't possibly show up reeking like a deceased rodent."
"Smelling like a dead rat?" one of them mocked. I sighed in response, averting my gaze.
Despite my actual scent, a shower before heading out seemed necessary. To my surprise, they escorted me to a hotel and covered the expenses. My emotions swung between shock and elation, mingled with an undercurrent of trepidation.
