I held my fathers watch tightly to my chest like it would be snatched away from me. The family had left an hour ago including the caterers, the chefs and the servers. They had cleaned up so quickly you would think I was lying if I told you we were having a party just moments prior.
The penthouse felt oddly empty afterwards, that the vibrance of my family made it feel so much more alive just by their presence. I wished they had never left but I knew the longer they stayed the longer I would have to be away from Demyan.
My fathers watch was something I never knew about. Pa still kept boxes on top of boxes of his belongings and sometimes during very dark days I would find him clutching his shirts as he cried for him. The older I got the more I explored the boxes. I would find his diaries and I would read them for hours on end because it made me feel closer to him.
