Ji Fenhua's eyes darkened as he looked at the scene unfolding in front of him.
A Man was whispering something in a woman's ear. The woman also whispered back. They both appeared to have a tacit understanding of each other. He heard the last part of Li Jiyanyu's words after getting closer to the scene.
"Oh? How come I never knew that I am perceived as a dangerous man?"
Jiyanyu, who was going to continue his gossip, was stunned.
He leaned back and turned towards the source of the voice.
'Great! He is truly done for this time around.' He gulped nervously.
However, he couldn't act like a coward in front of this prince either. Anyways, it's not like he can kill him inside the castle. It will cause him too much trouble, right?
With that thought in mind he regained some of his courage.
"Greetings Prince Ji, I was merely having a chit chat with Qing'er. My apologies for letting you hear us and ruining your mood. We will take our leave now."
Saying so, he habitually grabbed Huiqing's arms and almost dragged her away.
Fenhua narrowed his eyes at the sight. Before Jiyanyu could drag her away, he spoke up again, "What's the hurry young duke? If I didn't know better I would assume that I am not quite welcome here."
Huiqing strangely looked at him. Why does she feel like he is a respectable guest in the palace who is taking advantage of his identity?
She pulled her hand away from Jiyanyu's hand.
"Weren't you making yourself comfortable in my room a while ago prince? If I didn't know better I would assume you are making yourself way too comfortable as a guest." She said politely, but anyone with brain cells could perceive the resentment from her wording.
Fenhua's dark countenance finally recovered a little. Surprisingly he wasn't the least bit upset by her way of speaking. Instead her pulling her hand away from that duke's made him feel a great deal of satisfaction.
Earlier, he ignored her on purpose to see how she would react. Her rebellious teen like temperament was undeniably entertaining to him. Maybe he ruffled her feathers more than he should have, causing her to just walk out of her room, most likely to complain to her grandfather.
—--------------------------------
A young woman was sitting sideways, at the corner of the large room. The lightray on the glass windowpane reflected her dispirited expression. It was cloudy and windy. The breeze blew a few strands of her hair on her face. She didn't bother putting them away.
An Lanying was staring at a distance through the window. Numerous thoughts were clouding her mind at this moment. She decided against going to the forest today. Recently luck hasn't really been on her side. And more importantly….she truly didn't want to come across that annoying guy again. He is probably acquainted with the event of that manner in a way or another. Now she is confused about whether to continue the investigation or not.
Not to mention the guy is kind of annoying? He is good looking though, pretty charming, his eyes have a glint that she seems to have lost over the years. She admired his carefree attitude.
An Lanying traced the tiny specks of dust that had gathered in the crack of the window over the years. She muttered a spell she had come up with yesterday. The dust particles formed a small circle. Soon more and more dust particles gathered around the circle. Gradually the width of the circle increased. Smiling to herself, Lanying blew some air on the circle. Within moments it disappeared.
Her skills hadn't turned rusty, right?
She walked up to the desk and opened the drawer where she had kept the admission pass and the letter. Her mother didn't react all that positively so she didn't show the letter to her. She understood her predicament but she still had an unreasonable expectation of her mother feeling proud of her. Which remained unfulfilled.
Forget it..she wouldn't hold a grudge against her. She has to be more understanding. The letter was written with golden ink. The ink glowed beautifully on the pitch black paper. It was aesthetically extremely pleasant to look at and she was unable to look away from the letter for a good while. The handwriting was eye-catching as well. The brush strokes were strong yet gave off a sense of nonchalance. The person who wrote this should be someone who is arrogant and wise. She concluded.
"Ms. An Lanying,
Entrance examination score - 878/888
Inner Element - Earth, Wind
Core Element - Fire
Formation Concentration - Time Bending
Areas To Improve - Self Control
Spells
Energy"
This was the evaluation of her examination results that was attached along with the letter. She had indeed messed up quite a few spells, and it was mostly because she was too impatient and didn't have much control over her inner energy.
The letter made her admire the person who wrote it as she went through its content.
