Lanying leaned against the bed frame. She couldn't get the face of her mother out of her mind. Even in her last moments…all that woman wanted was for her to be safe.
"Sorry mother, I failed to be a filial daughter." A tear slid down her cheek. Ruffling through the small pouch tied in her waist, she took out a small handkerchief. Caressing her hand over the sword embroidery, she found some solace.
She found the truth to her father's death. But at what cost?
She squeezed her eyes shut. Memory of that night, when it all started, was still fresh in her mind.
