In the year 2041, Earth launched an excavation mission onto the planet Mars in order to learn if life had once truly existed on the desert planet. While they were excavating, they discovered a technology once belonging to a now extinct civilization. Humanity questions what they would do with this technology, and due to the countries arguing over the finding, World War 3 began.
While many thought this war would bring about the apocalypse, instead it brought unity. In the year 2044, the war ended, and to compromise the situation regarding the ancient alien technology, the biggest governments of Earth formed an organization together, The United Nations of Earth. This coalition of countries dedicated themselves to advancing humanity.
Using this new found technology, which had advanced human science tenfold, the biggest companies in the world began working on using it, and eventually, thanks to a madman, the first spaceship using this technology was created, dubbed "The Ark." This ship became the first of many to be made over the decades, with each new ship being more advanced than the last.
By 2089, humanity had an entire fleet of ships, over 100 in all. The ships mostly consisted of giant warships like you would see in the movies, but some were made purely for scientific exploration.
In 2093, a scientist got a brazen idea. Using the exploration ship known as "The Orion." to the Alpha Centauri system to visit the planet known as Proxima Centauri B. This planet was known as the closest hospitable planet outside of our own solar system. Using the new technology, which used warp drives, they reached Alpha Centauri in only three months, which was over four light years away from Earth.
The mission was an overall success, as the scientist had reached the planet and discovered a place for humans to live, which solved the overpopulation problem on Earth. However, there was an incident on the scientists return trip.
During the return, the ship had received a strange signal coming from somewhere in unknown space. The scientist relayed the signal back to Earth, and it was soon realized we were not alone in the universe.
Then two weeks later, the Orion's signal went offline.
In order to figure out what had happened, two ships, named "Castor" and "Pollux" were sent out to the location of the Orion's last known signal; however, when they arrived, The Orion was completely destroyed.
After which the production of military spacecraft intensified as humanity prepared for the worst.
That day came in 2097.
Five unknown spaceships entered Earth's solar system and engaged with three of Earth's ships over the moon of Triton. They were destroyed instantly, each ship carrying about 2000–2300 personnel.
The United Nations had dubbed the invaders "Centauri" since, as far as they knew, they had originated in the Alpha Centauri System.
As years passed, many skirmishes broke out between Earth and the Centauri, with Earth's forces just barely managing to keep them out of the solar system.
One thing was clear, however: the Centauri were far more advanced than Earth. So humanity had to adapt. From the few ships Earth's forces had managed to destroy, the United Nations of Earth adapted their technology into their own and used it against them, which evened the odds, only if just a bit.
However, more years passed and the war was at a standstill, which caused both forces to adapt. Earth had been using smaller jet-like ships for close encounters fast but had no defenses. The Centauri decided to counter them. They had created human-shaped machines to counter the smaller earth jets. These things had speed, strength, and defense all rolled together, each piloted by one of the Centauri.
The Centauri commanders also usually piloted their own custom machines, which were far more deadly than the typical ones you'd see. These machines were dubbed "Centurions."
The United Nations realized once again they were behind in technology, so once again... they adapted.
Humans invented their own machines using inspirations from movies and anime and were able to create their own machines to counter the Centurions on a mass-produced level. These machines, dubbed the Sentinels, and like the Centurions, would be piloted by a human, and each ship would be outfitted with 150 to 225 sentinels.
In 2108, the war was still at a similar stalemate. The Centauri Empire had only managed to take over the dwarf planet Pluto and the planet Neptune.
Also on Earth, academies had opened up, each of which trained young adults, ages ranging from 16 to 18, who would enlist in the military and serve the United Nations of Earth. Every year, captains from ships all around the solar system recruit 18-year-old graduates to be crewmates on their ships in various roles to help support their ships. Most importantly, though, they scout the sentinel pilots in training who will be fighting on the frontlines to defend our solar system.
And that's where our story begins:
