As the four of them, along with the other nearby recruits, walked towards the ramp of the ship. Crews were dropping off supplies to the ship, food, medical supplies, and such for a crew that at max capacity has nearly 800 members. As they kept walking up to the ramp, there was a woman standing on the top; she was wearing a black military uniform with a black skirt and leggings. She was quite beautiful with long black hair and bright blue eyes.
"Listen up, recruits," she yelled out loud, gathering everyone's attention.
"My name is Captain Aurora, Captain of the UNS Eternity. The ship that you will give your hearts and lives for over the next coming years. Some of you are sentinel pilots, who will bravely fight the Centauri Empire in the battles yet to come. The rest of you will be filling your roles onboard the ship. Now sentinel pilots, you will follow my aide, Second Lieutenant Lena Clydesdale, who will give the tour to the sentinel pilots; everyone else is with me."
With that, a girl with long purple hair wearing one of the military uniforms of the UNS came down, and the captain led the non-sentinel pilots on board the ship.
"Hello, sentinel pilots. My name is Lena Clydesdale. I will be your handler while you're onboard the UNS Eternity. My job is to make sure your deployments go off without a hitch and to make sure supplies are available to you when needed. Later today I will ask you all to send me a message regarding your rig setup for your sentinel, settings, armaments, things like that. Now, follow me."
Scarlet, Tyler, Lily, and Ren looked at each other before nodding, each of them taking their first steps on board the UNS Eternity together, the first day of the rest of their lives.
As they stepped onboard, they first arrived in the hangar of the ship. Inside were a hundred and fifty sentinels, all being worked on by the maintenance crews.
Lena then spoke. "This is the hangar; it's where you will deploy along with your battle groups. Every ship contains one hundred and fifty sentinels, and most of them rotate in battle groups of 50. One group is ready to deploy, the next is on standby as reinforcements, and the third won't deploy unless things get too desperate. You will all find out your assignments to your squads at a later date. For now, let's continue the tour."
As the group walked, admiring the sights of the sentinels, Lena suddenly stopped.
"Oh! Eleonora!" Lena said with a smile.
In front of her was a girl with long white hair and dark blue eyes. She didn't look much older than Ren and the others, maybe by like two years or so.
"Lena? Are you doing that tour thing?" Eleonora asked.
"Yup." Lena said, smiling. "These are our new pilots from the New York Academy. Everyone, this is First Lieutenant Eleonora Millescent., one of our squad leaders in battle group B."
Eleonora then stepped up with a smile. "I led Fireteam Epsilon B. I look forward to seeing what you all can do. Who knows, some of you may even be part of my squad. Well, Lena, you should show them the barracks. I'm working on getting these sentinels in fighting shape."
"Will do. See you later, Eleonora!" Lena said excitedly. "Now, follow me to the barracks."
Everyone nodded as they followed Lena into the hallway and up a flight of steps.
Lena spoke up. "Each of you has been assigned rooms. We tried to keep recruits with other recruits, but there are always some exceptions. If you have a problem with your room, please contact me. Now...room 301 is Tyler Lawson, Marcus Bailey, and Elijah Wilkerson.
"Damn... I was hoping I could room with you, Ren." Tyler said, sighing.
"It's all good; make some new friends. Just don't forget who's your best friend." Ren said jokingly.
"Of course not." Tyler said, smiling as he walked into the room with his new teammates.
Lena then walked down a few rooms: "Room 308. Laura Wilson, Cassie Brown, and Lily Holmes."
"Shoot..."
Scarlet walked over to Lily. "It'll be okay; maybe we can talk to Lena about transferring."
Lily reluctantly walked over to her room along with her roommates.
"Lastly," Lena said. Room 310. Scarlet Lister and Ren.
"...What?" Scarlet said in shock.
"Uh...I think there's been a mistake." Ren said awkwardly.
"Nope," Lena said. "You two will be rooming together."
"...This is going to be awkward." Ren said, sighing.
With that, the two entered their room. There were three beds placed against the walls, a small kitchen, and a bathroom.
"So...Scarlet?"
Ren turned to Scarlet, whose motions were very stiff.
"Y-Yes?" Scarlet silently said.
"You okay?" Ren asked.
"Perfectly fine... We used to have sleepovers all the time... This isn't any different." Scarlet said, noticeably worried.
"Feels like you're convincing yourself here. Look, if you don't want to, then—
"- It's fine!" Scarlet said, interrupting. "We're in the military...stuff like this was expected, but rule #1 is you change in the bathroom and wait for me to say you can come out."
"Understood." Ren said, smiling. "We should get to unpacking now; after all, it's the first day of many."
