"So, what's his condition? Saintess," Nathalia said as she asked the Saintess as she looked at the sleeping Vernon in the bed, but the Saintess just shook her head and looked at Nathalia with pity and regret at the same time as she did everything that she could, yet she still failed to cure the curse or even make him at least conscious.
"Worst, the memories that are trying to recover are getting reorganized, but it just jumbled over and over again. It's not able to return to normal while forcing itself to recover but can't due to the curse effects. If this goes on, he will go into memory overdrive and, in the worst case, death due to memory overdrive" the Saintes said, believing that Vernon has the possibility of dying due to memory overdrive.
"I see. Can I have time with my brother alone?" Nathalia said as she looked at the sleeping Vernon in the bed as she sat in the chair beside the bed where Vernon was sleeping, while the saintess just nodded as she knew that Nathalia was very depressed right now due to the fact that Vernon could not wake up.
"Yes, and I'm sorry. I'm not able to do much help anymore" the saintess said as she reached the door. As a saintess, this is the first time she has ever failed to heal someone. She had cured countless uncurable diseases and curses in the past, but this curse is no normal curse. She did not even know what sort of energy or reason why it put Vernon in such a dangerous situation, but one thing she is sure of is that Vernon is fighting it with the same energy that could not be felt or seen.
"It's not your fault. You've done everything you have, and I could not blame you just because you failed to cure big brother, as I too could not find a way to cure Vernon" Nathalia said as she looked at the saintess, who was about to leave, but she turned back and looked at Nathalia.
"Then please do take care" the saintess said as she opened the door and left the room, leaving only Nathalia and the sleeping Vernon in the bed.
As the Saintess goes out of the door, leaving behind Nathalia and the sleeping Vernon in the sleeping alone for them to be together for what may be their last meeting as brother and sister, although the Saintess wanted to help them the best as she could, the curse of an unknown origin that was used by the enemies of Vernon is not Mana. They also could not feel any form of energy that affected Vernon. It's like it just happened, like it's the will of everything saying that he could not have his memory back.
"Brother, please, wake up. Everyone is still waiting for you to return. We all need you" Nathalia said as she held Vernon's pale hands as tears fell from her cheeks. As she suddenly heard a footstep outside the room, she instantly wiped her tears as the doors suddenly opened, showing Nepheria, who had just arrived in this place.
"Sister is Big Brother, okay? I heard he just suddenly fell down in the middle of creating a spell. Did it backfire?" Nepheria said as she asked Nathalia if Vernon was okay, while stating that she heard that Vernon actually just fell down in the middle of creating a spell, and it actually backfired, causing his brother to fall down like a limp body that just died.
"Don't worry, it's just that Vernon just got put into a deep sleep when the spell backfired" Nathalia said as she looked at Nepheria, who asked with a bit of a sad smile as a façade, hiding her true emotions of despair and guilt about what just happened. If she was there to help her brother, she might have been able to help, but too bad she was not there to help when Vernon started using the spell.
"Sister, please don't lie. I will always know if you ever lie" Nepheria said as she instinctively noticed that Nathalia just lied right now. Although she did not know what happened, she still wanted to know what happened to her brother.
"No, really, he just fell asleep due to the spell backfiring. It's not a big problem. He'll wake up in a few months, just like the Saintess said" Nathalia said, lying to Nepheria again as she touched Vernon's head, but of course this did not fool Nepheria as she is now sure that Nathalia is lying.
"Sister, please, I want to know what truly happened. Why did Big Brother suddenly fall asleep? I know it's not because of a spell, as his body does not let out any magic at all, and I don't feel any energy in his body that could be the reason why he suddenly fell asleep" Nepheria said as she wanted to know what truly happened. She looked at Nathalia, who looked like she was about to cry as she bit her lips.
"Vernon is dying, Nepheria" Nathalia said as she told the truth to Nepheria.
"What, but how?" Nepheria said as she was surprised a lot by this sudden revelation that her brother is actually dying, so she asked why and how Vernon is dying.
"His memories are disappearing, every single bit of it, and he is trying his best to recover the one's lost memories by force using some unknown energy that even I could not feel. It's similar to the energy the enemies of Vernon use, I think, as I and Vernon could not feel that energy when it actually cursed him. We only found out about it when I noticed that Vernon seemed to have lost his memories a long time ago, 127 years ago" Nathalia said that Vernon is actually losing his memories constantly, and he is forcing himself to remember those memories by using the same energy that causes this curse, or if it can even be called energy because it seems not to be energy at all. Hearing this, Nepheria seemed to be more shocked that they actually hid it from her. She wanted to ask why they hid it from her, but she believes they do not have time for that type of family drama, especially since their brother could die any moment now.
"But how could Vernon die just because of memories?" Nepheria said as she asked, because it is impossible to die just because you would lose memories. To even die, one must lose their diasis to give themselves true death, but memories are brain, flesh, and consciousness. It does not reach diasis at all.
"It erases everything about his memory that came from his brain, flesh, soul, consciousness, diasis, Virialess, and Mla. It erases it in every part of his existence until one day we even forget about him and that we even had a big brother that took care of us" Nathalia said. It even affects everyone. This is equivalent to not existing at all. It's like you never existed from the very beginning, making everyone who once knew you don't even know you, as if you've never existed. Nepheria, hearing this, is clearly shaken by this revelation that just Nathalia spoke of.
"Is there any other way to save Big Brother?" Nepheria asked Nathalia, as she hoped that there would be a way to save Vernon at all.
"I think that form of energy that we could not feel maybe could save Big Brother, but we don't even know where we can have said energy or even control it" Nathalia said, as she believed that the energy, or if you can call it energy, that Vernon found might be able to help, but she did not know where Vernon found the said energy because it could not be felt nor seen in anyway. If she were to say it, those energies seemed more like leftovers, and Vernon was able to sense them due to his curse and used them to heal himself, but it terribly backfired as those energies clashed inside him now and his body is too weak to resist or even control the energy.
"I think I know where to get this energy" Nepheria said, believing she knows where to get equal or maybe even better energy.
"Really where? Tell me" Nathalia said, as she could not believe what she was hearing—that Nepheria actually knew where to get more of the energy that even she could not find.
"You remember the book we found in the past?" Nepheria said as she was letting Nathalia remember the book that they found in the ruins that they found during the war.
"Yes, what of it? Wait, don't tell me" Nathalia said as she suddenly remembered the book that they find it has unique powers, but they don't know how or why it did it, even the true future, as the future is actually in motion and splits into countless branches to create a different reality for every choice, movement, and more, yet the book would always tell the true future of the reality it stays in.
"Yes, I think this book had the same energy, although more powerful. Maybe we can use it to save brother" Nepheria said as she showed the intricate book in her hand.
