Chapter 40 - Mr Cluez

The next day Amari woke up feeling refreshed and mostly relieved that he'd figured out the most crucial things about the world. He got up from the bed and pushed the door open to enter the common room.

Each room was obscenely large, and each individual had a personal living space. But there was still a common room where everybody could converse or relax.

He shot a quick look across the room and sighed in faint relief when he realized no one else was there.

His roommates weren't exactly the best people, and Amari didn't even like thinking about them. Since they weren't there, then there wasn't exactly any need for him to remain in the common room.

Without giving another thought to the matter, he walked back into his room and into the toilet. While he was mostly unhurried, he heard that lateness to class could be penalized depending on the teacher.

And most professors weren't exactly like SilverOak.

Amari stood under the shower thinking. When he asked the Ifrits about it, they said it was made by dwarves. But the more he thought about Tesla, the so-called God of Technology, the stranger their answer became.

"Whatever…" he muttered, turning the faucet off not long after.

Taking a towel off the wall, he wiped his body off and then moved straight to his clothes. His uniform to be exact.

The clothes were heavy than cotton and had similar strength and durability to leather. Amari had specifically requested that the black shirt and pants be something he could wear below the armour.

In the end, that left him with a simple black and red shirt and black pants.

A few seconds later, he finished wearing the clothes and shoes. After making everything was on his body for a second time, Amari finally decided it was time to head to class.

Fortunately for him, today he only had three classes.

Introduction to Elemental Magic, Non-Magical Combat Training and the one specialization he was allowed to choose as a second year; Runic Study and Ancient Runes.

If there was anything Amari knew, it was that Runes were always a reliable way to gain power in a fantasy world. No matter what book he had read or, runes were always the way to go.

Today's classes were definitely going to be much more interesting than the ones from yesterday.

He navigated his way across the ancient castle with an awkward grace until he finally reached the lecture room. It wasn't the same as the ones from the previous day but still pretty similar. Except that this room had a…

A stage?

Amari raised an eyebrow.

'That's a stage, right? Well, it is an Element class.'

He decided not to pay further attention to the strange construct and sat down somewhere in the middle of the room. A pretty much adequate thing. His attention was focused on the door that the teacher would be coming from, so much so that he didn't notice the person that sat down next to him.

5 seconds… 10 sseconds… A minute… Until…

The centre of the room exploded into a large gout of smoke and fire, completely obscuring the area. Amari couldn't help but frown as the smoke spread to the rest of the room, causing some people to collapse coughing.

Amari himself almost fell, but he held his body straight and continued staring straight into the centre of the smoke.

Time passed and the smoke completely obscured everything in his vision, but the faint thuds that came from hitting the ground could be heard more often now.

His vision turned blurry with each second that passed, and a few drops of tears appeared at the side of his eyes. Amari swore inwardly and racked his brain for a method to stay awake.

'Reida… Felaud... Tamira… Belat…'

A second later the blurriness let and the tears dried up. It was working!

The names of everyone he'd met so far engulfed his mind slowly as the smoke continued to strangle the first years into unconsciousness. This happened for a few minutes longer before anything else happened.

"Wonderful, wonderful! A full seven of you managed to completely withstand my little smoke trick. Wonderful, how wonderful!"

The voice spoke from everywhere and nowhere at all. Amari couldn't pinpoint exactly where it was coming from, but at the very least now the smoke had stopped spreading across the room.

*Whoosh!*

"Wakey wakey sleepy heads." The voice said again, but this time from behind Amari.

His words seemed to contain a certain power that instantly compelled the other students to stand up. Their firm footsteps and loud grunts made it evident what had happened.

'Could it be?' Amari's eyes widened at what just happened and thought of the odds of everything since he'd come to the school.

And it was then that the smoke cleared to reveal their teacher.

Standing in front of the whole room was a lithe tall man dressed like a jester. The man's jester cap had six points as opposed to the traditional three. And strangely enough, two points stood erect.

'This bastard stuck his horns there!' any of them realized after a quick glance and wondered how this class would be.

The brown showcased his row of perfect white teeth, tiptoeing across the floor and using the tip of his black metal sceptre to touch his black and red motley.

"You may call me Mr Cluez!"

The name alone was odd enough for people to give him odd looks, let alone his outfit, but that didn't seem to stop the man.

"All seven of you who withstood may rise and come to the front,"

Amari got up instantly and turned to look at the other six who did. Surprisingly he knew two of them.

The man who he called his roommate grunted but gave a nod of approval, only to turn away a second later.

His second acquaintance was someone he had almost forgotten.

"Hello, Sitri. How are you doing?" Amari asked, greeting the girl with a perfunctory wave.

She nodded quickly and also looked away.

'Heh, both of them are total weirdos.' Amari thought inwardly, as they finally reached the front.

Cluez smirked and pointed at all seven of them with his sceptre.

"If you could withstand my spell, then it means you all have a pretty great understanding of spells yourself! So today we'll all demonstrate the best elemental spells in our arsenals!"
